Avatar m tn Hey yeah im 15 and was extremley worried about my parents smoking the both started at 13 so i looked it up and they were spending like $5000 aus a year on it smoking a pack a day which they didnt realise also each ciggarette takes around 12 minutes from your life. once i told them they slowed down but didnt stop but then when my mums father died of cancer because of smoking it hit them hard and they pretty much stopped after a few weeks.
Avatar f tn I understand that smoking is extremely addictive, but there are certain things we do for our kid that are very hard, and one of them is being pregnant, taking care of our bodies while pregnant and nursing (and I am not even talking about giving birth!). That is only the start of a difficult life of a parent. So, let me give you the facts that you probably already know, but they are important to repeat.

Avatar f tn I have been told many things about smoking during pregnancy. I am currently nine weeks pregnant and I'm having a problem with just quitting smoking. I've been told that since I've smoked for almost ten years that if I just up and quit I run a high risk of loosing my baby. I've been told to cut back and I've got to where I only smoke about 5 to 8 a day and before I got pregnant I smoked a pack a day.
Avatar f tn Basically to sum up everyone, no its never safe to smoke during pregnancy and around children (or anyone for that matter) but its a big step from smoking a pkg. Find the strenght to stop completly, seek help even, because if your not going to do it for yourself do it for your baby. No one should ever tell you its safe to smoke.....i mean they even put those discusting pictures on the pkg.

Avatar f tn I'm 25 yrs old and I'm about 6 weeks pregnant with my first child, and I'm a smoker any good advice for me to try to quit smoking? And also I can't be seen by a doc until I'm 9 weeks, should I start taking the pill now? If so how often and where can I get them?
Avatar f tn How did you find out you were expecting? Were you shocked, excited, or sad? I'm 25 weeks and I found out I was pregnant by horrible morning sickness! I conceived my bundle of joy February 14th and I found out I was pregnant April 4th at midnight by a pregnancy test. I was extremely shocked because I was told I wasn't able to have children. This is my miracle baby!<3 I had morning sickness for 2 weeks and I just thought I had an extremely bad case of the flu.

Avatar f tn As Mrs_bagz said there is nothing you can do no-it's not good for baby at all, even being around smokers is awful. Well done for giving up-I've never smoked but imagine it must be hard-but we will do anything for our children so well done! Don't start again-so much healthier fir you & your bundle! All you can do is go onto the net & print some articles explaining the effects smoking will have on her baby pre & post & hope a maternal instinct kicks in! Good luck!
Avatar f tn All of this information should be enough reason for you to continue not to smoke for the sake of the baby, you also want to eat right, exercise and stay away from all unneeded drugs and alcohol while you are pregnant and nursing. Please take good care of yourself and that way you can be sure you are taking the best care of your child.
707563 tn?1626361905 Recently, we have had threads on smoking that have gotten nasty quickly. I think we all know that smoking is bad for mom and baby, but this does not make it appropriate to insult or shame other members. I'm sure all our moms to be love their babies, and someone can make poor choices without that reflecting on their love for their babies. We all have things we'd like to change - weight, bad habits, etc., and shaming doesn't promote change, ever.

1124887 tn?1313754891 I wonder why your gp considers pvc's (VES) dangerous and american drs treat 99% of pvc's as benign? this is a very interesting subject, I love learning new things about something that's plagued me for awhile and treated as "nothing" but turned out to be dangerous. Where is the Lowns scale? Im going to see if I find it and stick it in my journal - I didn't know monomorphic pvc's were rare, I thought polymorphic were the rare ones?
Avatar f tn It is important to start prenatal care early and when you do see your OB or a midwife , please talk to them about your smoking and how to quit. They will be more than happy to give you advise and literature on the subject. Many women have similar concern and many are able to quit their bad habits in order to have healthy children. It is quite amazing how what we find impossible to do for our own sakes, we women are able to do for the sake of our children.
Avatar f tn Not only is the action of smoking itself is detrimental to the health of the baby, but we do not know how cannabis intake can affect the developing brain.I understand that smoking is extremely addictive, but there are certain things we do for our kid that are very hard, and one of them is being pregnant, taking care of our bodies while pregnant and nursing (and I am not even talking about giving birth!). Avatar f tn info/products/view/Marijuana Also, little is know about long term effects on children whose mother used MJ while pregnant, there are studies which indicate that MJ could cause cognitive and behavioral issues down the road. You can try to convince yourself that what you're doing is okay, but I think the fact that you posted here says that you're not really sure, and it's something you ARE worried about, which is a good thing.
Avatar f tn I found a place with an autoclave but do I need to worry about this last time? What are the facts? And do I really need to worry about HIV if it can't live out of its host? Please let me know so I can put my mind to ease. Thank you. This is a follow up question to the following that I already asked: I got a manicure on Sunday at a Vietnamese place. I forgot to bring my own tools so decided to let them use theirs.
