Avatar m tn The efficacy of the administration of ezetimibe, a cholesterol transporter inhibitor, concomitantly with combination peginterferon alfa-2b (PEG-IFN) plus ribavirin (RBV) therapy was retrospectively examined in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC).
Avatar m tn January 24, 2012 -- A molecule embedded in the membrane of human liver cells that aids in cholesterol absorption also allows the entry of hepatitis C virus, the first step in hepatitis C infection, according to research at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. Previous studies showed that cholesterol was somehow involved in HCV infection.
Avatar f tn this blocks cholesterol absorption by blocking a receptor that is used for hcv entrance and maybe hbv entrance too because it has been found to lower cccdna/hbsag
Avatar n tn You could consider going for a higher dose of Lipitor, another way to go is to consider taking a drug that limits cholesterol absorption such as Ezetimibe. There is a combination drug Simvastatin and ezetimibe that may be better in controlling cholesterol. Discuss these drugs with your doctor. Best of luck to you. Stay positive.
Avatar m tn Results We found that the uptake of radioactive cholesterol in Caco-2 cells was inhibited by ezetimibe in a dose-dependent manner. The results indicate that the uptake of cholesterol in this study was mediated by NPC1L1. We then pretreated the cells with 25-100 μM curcumin for 24 h and found that such a treatment dose-dependently inhibited cholesterol uptake with 40% inhibition obtained by 100 μM curcumin.
Avatar m tn I have a question for the group, since my physician seems to be stumped about what to do. I have had chronically low HDL (15-30) for the last ten years. I have been taking 2000mg Niaspan daily for the last 18months, helping to raise it from 25 to 30. I run about 9miles a week, work out 3-4X at the gym each week, and drink a glass of red wine every night. I eat nuts every day, take Omega3, and rarely eat red meat - subscribing to a low cholesterol diet.
529224 tn?1400648219 Statins reduced the cholesterol significantly and with the added medication of Ezetimibe, which slows fat absorption through the gut wall, my cholesterol is way below average now. I've been on these medications since the start of 2007 with no side effects which blood tests have continually confirmed. Familial hypercholesterolemia affects 1 in 500 people in many countries, so it isn't that uncommon.
1006041 tn?1250396768 I was given an additional medicine which dramatically decreases the absorbtion of fats through the digestive tract. This is called Ezetimibe and just 10mg reduced my cholesterol a great deal. Maybe your GP could look to attacking your problem from this angle?
Tbd About two years ago my doctor added ezetimibe to my regimen. It has been lowering my bad cholesterol how ever the first of this month I missed taking them for about a week and for the first time in years I felt less fatigued. I do have Fibromyalgia which is usually the cause of my fatigue, but this is a different type of fatigue. I have not restarted either of the cholesterol meds back because I have felt so much better. I know I need to talk to my doctor about it.
Avatar n tn Now if your whole family follows an strict no fat diet, I advice you to measure the cholesterol and vit. D levels of the members of your family. The body needs cholesterol and if you do not supply it, your liver will produce it ... after 3 years of a no cholesterol diet my wife got an increase in cholesterol and need to correct it with statins. Also if you take no fat, you are not supplying Vit. D (which goes in the fat).
Avatar m tn If you are producing too much cholesterol with a carefully controlled diet, then you may have a hyperactive Liver. I have hypercholesterolemia, which basically means when I sleep, my Liver turns my blood into fat soup. Only around 20% of the fat in your blood comes from food, the Liver can make fat by itself and does. Without statins my total cholesterol is 375-400. With 40mg of Atorvastatin accompanied by Ezetimibe, It is 160-162.
Avatar f tn I was put on Pravastatin about 9 weeks ago as my cholesterol had gone from 190 to 225 from the previous year. I have a family history of heart disease (my father passed away after a second heart attack at 53). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and was placed on Levoxyl (75mg) and my levels have remained normal. I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks.
907968 tn?1292622204 Mu Cholesterol numbers dropped!! So I celebrated with a Big-Mac and a Shack :-) Just got them today, Cholesterol numbers from November '09 and February '10. I still have to raise HDL and lower Trig.s but all other numbers are much better. This can only come from diet or a lab mistake. My Diet changed in the last three or four weeks to include... a high fiber cereal every day with the occasional bowl of oat meal. a handful of walnuts every day(thanks Ed!).
Avatar m tn ezetimibe, probaly too weak to work at 10-20mg which is the dose to lower cholesterol i am using 50mg the highest dose used in human trials which was disregarded because no improvment over 10mg for cholesterol irbesartan max dose is 300mg to lower blood pressure, and we will use it at this dose because may be sufficent as an entry blocker
315318 tn?1353251800 It seems a bit odd that the discomfort is in both legs. I am wondering if you have recently been started on Statins to lower your cholesterol? If this is the case, stop taking the medication immediately and seek an urgent appointment with your GP. Statins can cause terrible damage to muscles. The only other reason I can think of is that your muscles are not receiving adequate oxygen and are seriously aching. When I walk up stairs my calf muscles feel like they are squeezing my legs to death.
Avatar m tn also statins like simvastatin were reported to boost response a little but better not mix 2 statins, in a report researchers of ezetimibe effect on hbv and hcv suggested the use of ezetimibe with interferon but without simvastin ezetimibe dose is 10-20mg daily but human trials with dose 50mg daily for a limited time did not find any sides or toxicity
Avatar n tn ezetimibe is a drug used to block cholesterol absorption in the stomach, it has no relevant sides nitazoxanide is an antiviral and antibacteria drug, one of the rare drugs allowed on babies also since sides are so little
Avatar n tn My cholesterol levels have been high all my life. Genetic, I have been told. I took niacin for 20 yrs. I am now 67 and have tried two different popular statins( lipitor and crestor which did lower LDL about 50 pts but also lowered HDL). I could not tolerate either statin because of personality changes ie: anger and irritability all the time and severe cognitive issues with memory, reasoning and being able to focus.
976897 tn?1379167602 In 2007 my total cholesterol serum was 340 mg/dl thanks to hypercholesterolemia. Now, can they actually really diagnose this without genetic testing? or do they simply take it for granted that you must have this problem if your cholesterol is over a certain value? From 2007 until 6 months ago, I just took atorvastatin 40mg and ezetimibe 10mg and did nothing with my diet to really speak of. Those meds knocked it down to acceptable levels without me doing anything.
Avatar n tn There are medications which reduce this absorbtion and it had dramatic effects on my cholesterol. Still taking statins to target the liver, I was also prescribed Ezeterol (ezetimibe 10mg).
