Common Questions and Answers about Exercise physiology lab equipment

Avatar n tn I had a roommate who used one of these in bad weather, and Gym is right, it's much easier to maintain and use than exercise equipment. I like the home exercise equipment, but as i said, it always turns out to need a lot of maintenance even when new.
3151606 tn?1420356612 During an EP study, to test atrioventricular conduction, they artificially stimulate the atria at increasing speed until the AV node (the "gatekeeper") is starting to block impulses. This is known as the "Wenckebach point". One may think this is similar to max pulse (maximum HR during exercise) but that's not correct. When you exercise you release lots of adrenaline which both stimulate the sinus node and the AV node to allow more rapid conduction.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am a 31 year old female with a VERY long list of medical problems, and I have recently stumbled upon something else that concerns me... Two days in a row, on different treadmills and once with a heart rate monitor, I have seen that about 15 minutes into a run my heart rate has gone from a 200+ down to a 30-50.
Avatar f tn Strange results. Lab results vary by lab as not all use the same test equipment. First thing first, were you fasting 8-10 hrs prior to the lab? Did you consume any alcoholic beverages 72 hrs prior? If not your results will be skewered. Also, do not exercise prior to a lab. Try to do labs first thing in the morning so fasting is not so hard, just eat breakfast after. Lastly, have you been tested for Hepatitis A, B or C? If not you should.
Avatar f tn Try to lower your Carbohydrates if they are over 100g a day. You can do 15 min interval body weight exercises without any exercise equipment at all an get amazing results. I recommend something like 20-30 seconds on 10 seconds rest between each set. Squats, push-ups, Mountain climbers, Crunches or Leg Lifts, lunges.

Avatar f tn I would be looking for a 2nd opinion and for another cardiologist. I personally would not have been doing that much cardiac exercise if my EF was at 37%! Echo's can vary from tech to tech and lab to lab and they don't always give the true picture of what is going on. A Heart Cath tells the true story. I have a friend who had a cardiologist that told him that his Echo showed 32% EF and that he needed to have an ICD implanted or he was going to die.
Avatar m tn m sure I had something that resembled gonorrhea (burned when I peed - discharge, and antibiotics got rid of it) and neither of them had symptoms or positive test results. However, I work for a company that builds lab equipment that tests for both strep and gonorrhea and a week or two before I showed symptoms a machine was returned from a lab that may not have been decontaminated. So, is it possible I acquired it through that? Or that I had something else and had a FP result?
Avatar f tn Are you saying while working at a constant/level exercise aerobic level your HR will drop from 180 to 34? This sounds like equipment failure to me. I did read that you get these strange readings on different equipment, but are you using the same transmitter? For example, my Polar wrist monitor with a chest strap will also drive the HR on some tread mills and other equipment, so if the chest strap/transmitter is producing errors, those errors will be displayed on all compatible equipment.

Avatar f tn When choosing exercise type, light, moderate or vigorous. Is that based on the exercise itself or how many times a week its done. Please let me know.
Avatar n tn They were probably checking the quantative value instead of qualative so even though you went to a lab instead of you doctors office, that lab may have to send the blood somewhere else to get these values. Really all depends on where you live and/or what kind of equipment that lab has on hand. Some labs only have equipment to read the simplest of tests and therefore have to send the blood to a better equipped lab for analysis. I would still guess around a week for results. Best of luck to ya.
Avatar f tn A recent study conducted by the University of Buffalo’s Concussion Management Clinic suggests that cardio vascular exercise performed on a equipment that does not involve a lot of impact or bouncing such as a stationary bike, elliptical or treadmill can speed the recovery process. One of the lead researchers Dr.
Avatar n tn Your evaluation will probably consist of some variation of a cardiac echo with a stress component to see if the physiology of exercise can be reproduced. Perhaps a holter monitor and perhaps a perfusion stress test. Also an electrical conduction study or tilt table test may be considered if this is felt to be an electrical conduction disorder. The decision about which combination of these tests is most appropriate will be made based upon your a history, physical exam and review of your EKG.
Avatar n tn The most confusing thing to me is that the symptoms never really get a whole lot worse during exercise (i ride my exercise bike for 30 minutes with a pulse of 150-165 easily), although the pain doesn't get worse during exercise I do have an abnormal intensity in the pounding of my heart (feels like it just beats with too much force). The chest wall is not tender in any way.
Avatar m tn Hi, some days ago i tested negative for hiv by Ab and Ag methods 15 weeks after possible exposure. I was really panicked at the moment of testing and cannot remember a lot, but Before drawing my blood, the nurse asked me to clench my fist, then touched my arm to find the vein, BUT: When the nurse was drawing my blood i preferred not to look, so i remember that i only felt a very very slight and short time needle pain in my arm.
Avatar f tn I've exercised for 20 years, in the last 6 mos I did a sprint triathlon and have worked out 6 days a week consistently. When jogging slow, my heart rate jumps to 180-195 and I have to keep stopping to catch my breath no matter how slow I jog. Over the first few months I thought it was conditioning, then after a treadmill test my dr. told me my heart looked like someone who never works out, but was normal. I was breathless after 10 min. Endo said I have a TSH of 3.19 T4 of 1.
Avatar f tn I do but the only things I use are the treadmill and the elliptical. A lot of the equipment is off limits while pregnant so be sure to talk to your dr before trying something new.
1906433 tn?1321844691 I would like to get back into exercising more, however I'm concerned with how my cranium will handle it, because it's still healing from having a tumor removed in 08/11. I do walk, but I did more before the tumor was diagnosed. My neurosurgeon doesn't address anything that he doesn't seem to think is his field. My chiropractor says walk, walk, walk. Which is ok, but with the weather getting colder, I can't tolerate outside much.
1551655 tn?1294260921 If you wish to purchase hand weights or stretch bands to use at home, stores like Walmart in addition to Sports stores carry such equipment at very low costs. Yard sales are an excellent source of used exercise equipment! Have fun with exercise, if possible, so that you will look forward to it! Cheap DVD's (or old used video tapes) are also available, at a very low cost.
Avatar f tn I have been seeing a cardiologist because I can't exercise long before my heart rate jumps to over 170. I'm a 52 year old woman in otherwise good health. I recall having this problem all my life. I'm tried continued exercise to build up my tolerance but I never get any improvement. My respirologist did a stress test which showed I change from an aerobic to an anaerobic state at an early stage of exercise. Do you know what this might be. The cardiologist seems stumped also.

Avatar f tn Is it possible that 2 leaky valves would cause my heart rate to elevate quickly during exercise? If so how am I supposed to exercise? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
