The most I do is walk up 4 flights of stairs in the parking garage at the end of the day IF I feel I can handle it that day. Usually by the time I get to the top my heart is racing and I feel like hell, but I want to prove to myself that I can do it. I'm very stubborn. At night once the Ritalin wears off, I crash.

Since diabetes is a life-long disease, I find it helpful to focus on the things I can do -- and build my confidence, competence and joy -- rather than to dwell on the things that could've been had I not had this disease.

I have had an EKG, Echo and Echo Stress Test and still no determination has been made why my heart is doing this. I do not get tired, no pain or short or breath? I feel frightened with this unusual thing happening. When I had the 24 hour halter last week (did not go to gym) there was no abnormalities. I've been between jobs and had some extra time in my hands and over the [last 6 weeks have stepped up my work outs to 45 -60 mins at 90% of max + and pushing 10 mets per day, up from 7 before. During this period, I have seen my resting heart rate drop from an average of 72 to my current level of 62. Does this sound reasonable? I have normal heart rate response to exercise as well as a normal recovery rate.

Avatar m tn With a normal cardiology work up (normal EKG and echo) there really isn't any more testing necessary to do. Maybe I would have asked for a 24h Holter, and if you get palpitations during exercise, possibly a stress test, but as long as your EKG and echo is normal, the palpitations are likely benign and further testing is mostly for reassurance. A heart rate in the 50s is nothing to worry about unless you have symptoms of low blood pressure.

Of course, it's better than sitting at a desk, but not the same as activities that promote heart health, weight loss, range of motion, core strength, etc. How do we design programs to be motivational and fair for all? Avatar n tn You can do it as long as you make simple adjustments. I have had jobs where I walk for 8 hours a day and desk jobs where I sit all day. And there are days that I do lots of exercise and days of none. Adjust to the situation and move on doing what you want to do. Hope this helps you out.

I am a very physical person and am also forced to do physical jobs (hauling logs, and dog walks etc) and the menopause hot flashes were fun I don't think! I would just basically strip off to shorts and vest. People used to think I was Spartan or something, they said the weather wasn't that hot....but I was! (A warning...always take a top or sweater with you. Tie it round your hips or something, because once the hot flash passes you can feel quite cool again.

And what they deemed a "good" recovery rate was all over the map - CCF says anything better than 12bpm drop in first minute and you're good. Another said it needed to be in the 20's to 50's to be good. I think it's safe to say that there isn't a clear-cut answer.

If you had your symptoms during the test, and the test was otherwise normal, then you could be reassured that your shortness of breath was from deconditioning. Let me caution you, though, that some people will never be relieved no matter what the test. Ask yourself what will satisfy you before you go down the path of testing.

I have two jobs, one of which is physical demanding most of the time. If I get a chance, I go shoot a basketball around for an hour or two once a week. I don't do much cardio because I cannot breathe well due to a spinal deformity that alters the position and articulation of my rib cage.

After these next 18 days I will do another 90 Day Challenge, but will incorporate exercise and I can't wait. I have before/during pictures on facebook.
