Someone who is in shape can exercise vigorously, but somebody who has not been getting any real exercise will need to start out with an easier program. Somebody in between can work out at a moderate pace. Everybody should exercise a minimum of 3 days a week to make any gains at all, and it really takes at least four to see fast results.
Avatar m tn 5 mph on the treadmill, then getting on the exercise bike for naother 15 min at a high setting and keeping it going at about 23-30 mph, then i get back on the treadmill for another 15 min, then back on the exercise bike, and i throw in weight training inbetween on some days. it's been about 3 weeks and i haven't seen any changes.
Monkey Right at present I only have a exercise bike available to me and we generally have not nice winters for walking. Cold does not bother me but worry about the ice so my question is this. Will it be beneficial for me to just use the bike on days when cannot walk, is that going to help with my weight and exercise program.

When i'm tracking how many calories i've burned in my cardio i never know if i should use my bike and treadmill numbers or if i should use a websites numbers... their drastically different sometimes my bike says i do 200 calories and a website says i do 800...

Avatar m tn   If your heart rate decreases 20 beats per minute (bpm) or more within 1 minute post exercise you are doing well. By 5 minutes post workout your heart rate should be down to 120 bpm or less.  Then do this exercises Peak 8 !
Avatar f tn Also, what exactly is considered moderate on a stationary bike? My bike is pretty ancient and has a speedometer that runs MPH/RPM. I usually stay around 15-20 MPH, which is about 250-350RPMs.

A heart rate monitor HRM is the best way to figure out your caloric burn rate. (Many new gyms are actually putting in these monitors on their tread mills and putting the counter up on a screen). You need to feed your muscles so that is why you get those extra calories. Yes you should eat them.

I do exercise anywhere from 5 to 7 days a week, usually for about 35 to 40 minutes a day, and also will do some weights, but other than that I am basically sedentary. I have tried several different websites on figuring out calorie intake and they all give me extreme differences. Some say 1200, some say 1600, and some have said as high as 2200. Now I know there is no way I could consume 2200 calories a day unless I was extremely active.
Avatar f tn I am almost 38 weeks and have worked out consistently the entire pregnancy. I did barre classes, which i loved until recently. They have great pregnancy modifications and are a great workout. On days i didn't do that and now, I do light weights, cardio, core, etc. On days i don't feel like working out, i will at least wander around a store for an hr or two. I think it has helped my pregnancy go by super easy and kept my energy up.
Avatar n tn s pretty hard to produce progesterone to maintain a workout like Like that when the workout itself was upping my cortisol levels to high and subsequently I lost that pregnancy. This time, I'm not doing even a bit of exercise which is super hard for me until 12 weeks - then I'm switching to Pilates and yoga and walking - the hard core exercise can wait till he/she is out then I'm straight back on the hard core exercise!!
Avatar n tn I have been working out everynight. My workout consists of 10 or 1 mile on the bike which ever comes first, and the same running/jogging on the treadmill. And then doing the weight circuit at my local gym. I feel like im working my butt off yet the machines only say i have burned like 50 calories! And last night i got on the scale and weighed myself for the first time and i about started to cry! I cant be THAT big!

Avatar m tn If you go the gym, always get aleast 20 mins cardio in, this is to et your heart rate raised and to get you to sweat (the warmer your body is the more calories it will burn). Also walking lunges with anywhere from 6-7kg Dumbbells up are great leg exercises.

The most effective way is to change what you eat but exercise can help as well. I would plan on a little exercise everyday to burn 100-150 calories, and changing your diet to cut 300-350 calories. You can do it.
Avatar m tn I work out 4-5 times a week and I intake around 1700 calories...no more than 1800 a day. My exercise involves running 2-3 miles and then doing some strength training (benchpress, curls, lateral raises....etc I get at least 1 to 2 days of leg workouts in within the week) My food is healthy, the only thing I think I am missing is protein but I'm not sure if not having enough protein is contributing to me not losing weight.
