Avatar f tn Also, what exactly is considered moderate on a stationary bike? My bike is pretty ancient and has a speedometer that runs MPH/RPM. I usually stay around 15-20 MPH, which is about 250-350RPMs.
Avatar f tn You are exercising with the stationary bike. For a weight-bearing exercise, you could alternate the bike with at least a half an hour of walking or some jogging. Depending upon your surroundings and weather conditions, you can walk indoors from room to room and/or up and down stairs, if necessary.
645800 tn?1466860955 For me, riding a bike is my favorite aerobic exercise because it is actually much easier on my legs than running or any other type of cardio. When biking, you are using your legs, but the exercise is very low-impact as compared to running. I find that my legs get a great workout and the distance I am able to ride is very satisfying to me. I also really enjoy being able to feel the wind in my hair ;) I ride a three-speed. For me, three gears are plenty and the bike is pretty low-maintenance.
1237562 tn?1360989580 For the first few weeks I could still exercise. I tried to ride the recumbent bike and walked for a total of 20 to 30 min. per day. Once my severe fatigue set in around week 4, and my hemoglobin started dropping below 10, I rode the bike but kept my heart rate under 120 BPM as I didn't want to risk a heart attack. My heart was already pumping harder due to the lack of oxygen from low Hgb. and I'm a former smoker.
Avatar n tn Any suggestions on any excersies that I can start doing? I really want to tone up my legs and butt... I will be 30 weeks tomorrow!
Avatar f tn When choosing exercise type, light, moderate or vigorous. Is that based on the exercise itself or how many times a week its done. Please let me know.
Avatar f tn I'm 22 and have always gone to the gym. I don't do something like run 5miles a day but my usual is about 30min of cardio on either elliptical, bike, jogging then some weights. I'm curious what you all have been doing as exercise? I'm 3months pregnant and was already a little overweight so I'm trying to maintain a healthy weight. does anyone do spinning classes?
1906433 tn?1321844691 I would like to get back into exercising more, however I'm concerned with how my cranium will handle it, because it's still healing from having a tumor removed in 08/11. I do walk, but I did more before the tumor was diagnosed. My neurosurgeon doesn't address anything that he doesn't seem to think is his field. My chiropractor says walk, walk, walk. Which is ok, but with the weather getting colder, I can't tolerate outside much.
Avatar f tn Hello. I am 31 and have POTS (among other things). I find it very difficult to exercise, which I'm sure you all with POTS understand. However, my Dr says it's important to exercise- especially my legs to help with POTS. I was wondering if anyone has a regimen that has worked for them. I also have gained a lot of weight b/c of this and hypothyroidism. I would like to lose the weight, but am more concerned with being healthy and decreasing the pots symptoms. If I could do both......
Avatar f tn I wonder why that is...the horse vs the bike. I'm the same. UNless it's because the horse is the one keeping one upright........weird isn't it? Maybe it;s because on a bike we have to rely on ourselve sto be upright, but on a horse the horse does it for us..... Horse riding is good Heather!

139792 tn?1498585650 Rather than emphasize the long-term health benefits of an exercise program -- which can be difficult to sustain -- we urge providers to focus with their patients on the immediate benefits," he says. "After just 25 minutes, your mood improves, you are less stressed, you have more energy -- and you'll be motivated to exercise again tomorrow. A bad mood is no longer a barrier to exercise; it is the very reason to exercise.
Avatar f tn I am doing stretching, including assisted stretching, recumbent bike and other things. I have to go so slow on the recumbent bike that it is not even registering that I am on it! Yikes. I just did a teeny bit of it. The personal trainer works at a fitness center that is five minutes away, versus 45 minutes for cardiac PT. And I have $650/year in exercise benefits with my Medicare Blue Cross plan. PT is $500/month for me. So I have decided to try this out.
1116556 tn?1345115906 I also have a bowflex and recumbant exercise bike. Between these two I get my strength training and cardio workouts without having to kill myself. For the bike I use it in the pulse rate mode to get my heart up to the right level (it adjusts the amount of tension to keep it at the right level automatically). I use the bowflex for my leg exercises in order to keep being able to walk somewhat correctly.
Avatar f tn I just started riding my bike again - and even bought a new one. I can't explain how wonderful it is - as I don't enjoy walking that much anymore - and my balance and "bike" legs are coming back - I even take one of my dogs along with me now. Even though the heat usually bothers me alot - for some reason when I bike, nothing seems to hurt or bother me. Any one here have some biking tips or things to share - has or does it help you feel better?
Avatar m tn May want to lower intensity or duration on bike or try switching up exercise and try some walking or other aerobic activity. You may also want to take a day off for recovery. Your heart rate should recover quicker than it sounds like it is. May want to look into Heart Zones training. Sally Edwards has a good book on this. Basically, she divides your heart training rate into 5 zones and most aerobic benefits are found in zone 3, 70-80% of your target heart rate.
Avatar m tn My resting heart rate is 76 and my age is 68. When I exercise it climbs to 178 at times. Do I need to see a cardiologist? I am hardly even out of breath at this heart rate.
Monkey Right at present I only have a exercise bike available to me and we generally have not nice winters for walking. Cold does not bother me but worry about the ice so my question is this. Will it be beneficial for me to just use the bike on days when cannot walk, is that going to help with my weight and exercise program.
Avatar f tn Just wanted to update you guys on how my exercise program is going. I have been meeting with a personal trainer now for two months, twice a week for about 45 minutes. I have had NO major setbacks so far!!! She happens to also be a nurse, so I felt less anxious about working with her. She was unfamiliar with Dysautonomia, POTS, but researched it so that she would understand my condition(s). Needless to say, she was nervous about working with me and saw me (as I did) as fragile.
Avatar f tn I am wondering what you guys do for exercise with Cm and syringomelia. My Dr said to walk or swim. I bought a bike, the recumbent type. The first time I used it the next day I have severe headaches, "migraine" worthy. Any chance this is a coincidence?
Avatar m tn It is important to do warm up exercises, before doing the "hard exercises". The reason for this is to soften and loosen up muscles and tendons. If you start to do normal exercises before "warming up" (exercise bike, and stretches), you could end up damaging and tearing muscles and tendons, which you do not want. Same for singing. It is important to do "warm up" exercises to gently loosen up the vocal chords before starting to sing using the full vocal range.
12693075 tn?1442246392 hey ladies!!! Do you guys have the energy to exercise? If so, how long and what are you doing? I'm a FTM in my 3rd trimester. I'm always tired but not sleepy.
Avatar f tn m not sure what to do to get strong, healthy legs. I work out on the bike for 45 minutes and I do the ski machine for 15 minutes. What other machine could I use? I'm also doing the 30 day squat challenge.
Avatar m tn My electrophysilogist suggested a recumbant exercise bike. Ur sitting and leaned back which has your legs up a.little which should help with OI etc. I haven't tried it as can't afford it yet but makes sense. And u don't have far to.fall if.u.do.have syncope.
Avatar f tn I just stick to walking... whether its outside or on a treadmill. You can go bike riding as well. Squats, lunges... simple stuff. Don't do anything where you are putting strain on your body or where you won't be able to catch your breath.
1896537 tn?1381900009 t do water aerobics because I live too far away from gyms to go on a regular basis but I do have the exercise bike thing and use that. I also have a treadmill and get in what I can on that but when I start to feel the need to stop I do because I listen to my body. Yogo sounds like a great option too, people have mentioned it to me but I have yet to try it.
