Could my recurrence of Ovarian cancer be attributed to my taking Evista for a year? I had ovarian cancer 15 years ago and after surgery and chemo, and a "second look" surgery with multiple biopsies was considered cured.I had a complete hysterectomy and the cancer seemed to be contained in my left ovary. Last winter I found a lump in my left groin which was biopsied and diagnosed as ovarian malignancy.

Has anyone heard of taking Tamoxifen or
he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. He said Evista was better then the tomoxafin because it causes less blood clots. Is this true? I haven't started any meds yet, since IM going to get a second opinon first to see what is the best course of medication for me to take.Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.
Congratulations on your eight years! I hate to be the one to say this but there is no such thing as "out of the woods" with cancer, I wish there was.
What you've done is reduced your risk for another estrogen positive breast cancer and ovarian cancer. But that doesn't mean you won't get a different type of breast cancer in the remaining breast tissue or another part of your body.
But you know as well as I do that each year we are NED with cancer is better for our odds.

Hair loss in a known but not highly common side effect of Evista. If you do a search: "Evista and hair loss" you will find numerous references to this side effect.

Hi, I'm ok, but I think about this every day since I found out. It bothers me more than I thought it would. I have no known family history, but my mother died at 60 from complications from uterine cancer. I am post menopausal. When I was 49 my husband died and my periods just stopped suddenly and I had only hot flashes. But they were often and I would get drenched at work. So I took Prempro. I never stopped taking it because every time I tried the flashes came back.
The correlation between breast cancer and estrogen related ovarian cancer is being studied, and the theory is if they work for breast cancer patients, they may work for estrogen related ovarian cancer, as well. For me, Aromasin has kept my cancer stable for the last 9 months.
I encourage you and your mom to speak to her doctor regarding trying a different Aromatase Inhibiter IF Femara doesn't seem to work for her, or causes side effects.
I researched Evista online and found that it is linked to increased risk of ovarian cancer and stroke, in addition to other nasty symptoms I have never experienced (including hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia). I am afraid to take this drug, too, and don't know what to do. Has anyone else been in this situation?

the main cause is 4 weeks ago she started on hormone tablets for breast cancer ,this is her 1st week on radiotheraphy,at the end of the week she has started with servere pains in the groins of her legs and has been unable to get out of bed cause she cant walk and if she trys to stand up she says it feels like her insides are going to fall out.
I am having a biospy sterotatic biopsy April 22nd, of four clusters of microcalcifications. The radiologist also said, I have other calcifications scattered in both breast that are not clustered.
If we are taking the biopsy of only the clusters what can be done for the other scattered ones and what are causing these microcalcifications? Can I help to prevent them?
I also wonder if I will have problems with my breast after the biopsy, bleeding or infection.
The surgeon said that another surgery would increase my odds of not getting cancer, but that I did not have to have the second surgery. He also suggested that I might try Evista.
I am concerned about the fact that the margin was very small. I would like some advice on these issues.
But then, nobody is going to come to any bc cancer forum to share that they have no side effects from tamoxifen. It's only brought up when side effects are involved, right? So, there may be a good many who don't have those negative symptoms. It's just that I wouldn't know about those people and have never heard from them. cheers, kat

I would have my estrogen level checked to see how much the body is producing right now and to see if you're post menopausal. Not having a period after chemo doesn't mean menopause as I found out myself. If you're post menopausal then a hysterectomy/oopherectomy isn't really going to do anything but reduce your risk of ovarian/falopian tube cancer.
Most ovarian cysts and masses are benign, even suspicious looking ones. If you do not have a family history or predisposition for ovarian cancer then your lifetime risk is less than 2%.
And yes, the CA125 test is not accurate at diagnosing ovarian cancer. Benign (non-cancerous) conditions can cause an elevated result. A friend of mine had a CA125 level over 1000 (VERY HIGH) when she had a benign cyst. She unnecessarily lost not only her ovary but also her uterus and other ovary.
However, my Amylase continues to be elevated and I am concerned, as is my doctor, about chronic pancreatitis leading to pancreatic cancer. I do not drink Alcohol and have not for 20 years. Can you offer any ideas for cause of the pancreatic enzyme elevation and treatments?
So now my oncologist put me on a drug called evista which is a drug to decrease my chances of breasted cancer. It may as well be poison, it causes so much pain and sickness. So in addition to all that without all of your female parts I'm also at an increased problem of osteoprosis...For ME a Hysterectomy added so many problems that nobody, even my doctor warned me about.....
