Since I am prone to hot flashes, doc prescribed Effexor, an anti-deppresant known to combat hot flashes to take along with the Evista. I hate the idea of taking a med to offset SE's caused by another med. I was hoping that my flashes would be gone by now so that I wouldn't get a double whammy of them when I started the Evista. But I think valuable time is going by. I have an appt with the onc on July 8th.

There are several antidepressants that can reduce hot flashes. Accupuncture was rated equal to Effexor in one study for reducing hot flahes. Regular exercise had been shown to both increase bone mass and decrease hot flashes. If you are concerned about BC, it makes sense to try some of the (probably) safer alternatives...

I cannot sleep, the hot flashes, moodiness, etc. The hot flashes got worse after a few month. I have been taking clonidine, a high blood pressure medication, for it which really helps. It aslo helps you sleep and is very sedating at first, but very short term. Unless your blood pressure is very low, you don't have to worry about it going too low. many people are given an antidepressant for the hot flashes, but it's very painful to get off it, even if it helps a lot while on it.

he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. He said Evista was better then the tomoxafin because it causes less blood clots. Is this true? I haven't started any meds yet, since IM going to get a second opinon first to see what is the best course of medication for me to take.Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.

I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes. I have been reading such negative information about the side effects of Effexor, and even worse, the are withdrawal symptoms if you have to get off of it. Is there anyone reading this that actually had to take effexor along with Raloxifene? If so, could you tell me please if you had a good, or bad experience? Thank you for any input.

I researched Evista online and found that it is linked to increased risk of ovarian cancer and stroke, in addition to other nasty symptoms I have never experienced (including hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia). I am afraid to take this drug, too, and don't know what to do. Has anyone else been in this situation?

Is there any drug interaction between these two drugs ? I am taking Evista for Osteoporosis.

Could my recurrence of Ovarian cancer be attributed to my taking Evista for a year? I want to know if this causes hot flashes with normal glucose levels at the time? Or with high glucose levels? I get hot flashed quite frequently and my temp rises. I'm 29+6, and I am having crazy hot flashes n insomnia. When I am able to sleep I wake up drenched n cold from sweat. This is my 4th pregnancy and I've never experienced this before. I got hot flashes first trimester. Now at almost 20 weeks I wake up every time in a full on sweat.

If you have any other symptoms, get checked for any virus or other sickness, but just hot flashes is usually normal. I have them, mostly at night, and our bedroom is in the basement where it's nice and freezing. Just stay hydrated and hopefully they let up. They should go away post pregnancy. Good luck!
