evista

Avatar n tn Is there any drug interaction between these two drugs ? I am taking Evista for Osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn ve been off of it for 60 days and still getting flashes. My onc wanted me to start Evista. I have osteoporosis, and being post menopausal and my mother having uterine cancer, the Tamoxifen was not for me. The Evista is suposed to help with osteoporosis as well as cut my chances of ibc in half. Since I am prone to hot flashes, doc prescribed Effexor, an anti-deppresant known to combat hot flashes to take along with the Evista.
Avatar n tn It is also used to reduce the risk of spinal fractures related to osteoporosis, which is a plus for some women. (It was during studies of the use of Evista to treat osteoporosis that researchers noticed that among post-menopausal women who took the drug there was a lower rate of invasive breast cancer.) In the STAR study,it was found that tamoxifen appears to be superior to Evista in primary prevention of invasive breast cancer, but it comes at the cost of higher toxicity.
Avatar f tn Although I am 36 I have pretty severe osteoporosis and at one time was recommended to take medication for it. I have several spinal injuries which have resulted in Degenerative Disk Disease, other joint syndromes and overall bone density loss. I had not personally heard of the the fractures (femur) from the Fosamax, but I did hear of the other risk factors for some of the older drugs. I had heard also of the side effects like hot flashes and sweats which are none too pleasant.
Avatar f tn Could my recurrence of Ovarian cancer be attributed to my taking Evista for a year? I had ovarian cancer 15 years ago and after surgery and chemo, and a "second look" surgery with multiple biopsies was considered cured.I had a complete hysterectomy and the cancer seemed to be contained in my left ovary. Last winter I found a lump in my left groin which was biopsied and diagnosed as ovarian malignancy.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hair loss in a known but not highly common side effect of Evista. If you do a search: "Evista and hair loss" you will find numerous references to this side effect. This link: http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/evista/hair+loss indicates that as of Sep. 15, 2013, 17,635 people were reported to the FDA to have side effects when taking Evista. Among them, 259 people (1.47%) have Hair Loss. Time on Evista when these people had hair loss: < 1 month 4.35% 1 - 6 months 4.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 2 osteoporosis medicines (Evista and Fosomax) in attempts to stop the microfractures from occuring. After a few months of taking these, I did improve. However, my hips and back recently started bothering me again, in the form of spasms. I cannot get another MRI for a few more weeks. I take Naproxin 2x's/day and muscle relaxers 1-2 times/day. Acupuncture gives me great short term relief, but the spasms are back the next day.
Avatar m tn Hi there I too was recommend to go on Evista. I am going to take it. i ave been on Fosamax for the last year. That was prescribed by my primary doctor. My oncologist recommended that I take the Evista, besides the helping of osteoporsis I have ADH (atypical ductal hyperplasia) and have a high risk of cancer.
Avatar f tn he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. He said Evista was better then the tomoxafin because it causes less blood clots. Is this true? I haven't started any meds yet, since IM going to get a second opinon first to see what is the best course of medication for me to take.Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.
Avatar f tn to be tollerable. Now I start Evista for lcis and osteoporosis. That is supposed to cause flashes. My doc says Effexor and Clonidine will help flashes. I do not want to take Effexor, and Clonidine may lower my blood pressure too much since I am already on two blood pressure meds. I will try the Evista and if get flashes again, I may just stop. I read magnesium helps, so I tried. It did help quite a bit, but unfortunately, if you take enough, you get diarrhea. Some choice.
Avatar f tn Either estrogen replacement or Evista are good choices in prevention and progression of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Evista may also protect against uterine and breast cancer. If you don't have true osteoporosis, and you are headed in that direction (osteopenia), then estrogen (or Evista) therapy is more appropriate for prevention, than the addition of Fosamax. At the point of osteopenia, Fosamax may be used at reduced doses for prevention of the progression to osteoporosis.
Avatar n tn I am currently on Copaxone, Depakote, Neurontin, for the MS; Evista for osteoporosis, Tenormin, (as a beta blocker),for Migrane headache, Cinestin - an estrogen replacement (I had a complete Hysterectomy in 1991), Vesicare and Oxytrol for my neurogenic bladder and Tylenol with codine for acute pain. I recently had blood work and my WBC was slightly elevated at 11, RBC, Hemoglobin, and Hematocrit were slightly low and my lymphocytes were above 5000, (high normal is 3900).
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?

Avatar n tn My blood pressure at the bloodmobile yesterday was 102/70. The only meds I take are Evista to prevent osteoporosis and Topamax for neuropathy from the chemo (it's helped greatly, I can walk barefoot again). Because I work nights I occasionally take a quarter of an Ambien to get to sleep to put myself back on a "normal" sleep pattern. Don't drink coffee or tea. Since it started,I always feel this when laying down, sitting up only when I am very tired.
Avatar f tn //philaholisticclinic.com/natural-treatment-for-osteoporosis/ Because supplmenting with anything can impact you, we do recommend you consult with someone. Even a nutritionist. Calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium are important for bone health. Recommendations of what amount to take would be best with someone that knows your medical history. Even a nutritionist could be of benefit to you. Are you doing weight bearing exercise by the way? This video is helpful. https://health.clevelandclinic.
Avatar n tn The correlation between breast cancer and estrogen related ovarian cancer is being studied, and the theory is if they work for breast cancer patients, they may work for estrogen related ovarian cancer, as well. For me, Aromasin has kept my cancer stable for the last 9 months. I encourage you and your mom to speak to her doctor regarding trying a different Aromatase Inhibiter IF Femara doesn't seem to work for her, or causes side effects.
492490 tn?1255405372 There are also stage III clinical trials for Ovature out there to make you sensitive to platin again -- my doctor also keeps talking about Navelbine as a possible alternative treatment, although my research showed it mainly is used for small cell lung cancer. The Femara, Evista, and Arimidex and Tomoxifen are all used to try to stall the need for chemo again, but don't make anything go away, they just slow it down if the do anything at all,.
Avatar f tn Generally this is used for the immune system -- it is found in highest amounts in colostrum, the first part of our immune building found in breast milk. It is used for other things, sometimes for iron, but still mostly for building the proper bacterial foundation for a strong immune system. Don't see how it will build bone.
340734 tn?1256586262 For those that knew I started Tamoxifen 8 weeks ago, it didn't work for me. Today at my doctor's appt, I was told my number (CA125) went from 72 (8 weeks ago) to 161. Still not a significant number, but I'll be starting Taxol weekly for the next 6 months. (Hopefully) this will put the disease in check for me. Only time will tell. Now, I will be putting that chemo tracker to use, but I've been told that weekly Taxol is not so bad.
Avatar n tn I've been reading up on the interent and I am frightened for my health. This afternoon, I was struggling, and I took four Dulcolax pills. I took two yesterday. I have been having loose bowels and slight abdominal discomfort as well as feeling dizzy and faint. Should I worry about taking the four? How would I know if I needed to get to an emergency room?
Avatar n tn are you still not taking any prescription drug for your osteoporosis? Am interested to know what/why your doctor is recommending for your treatment now... I'm 62 Fem. with T score -3.5. My doctor is putting me on Actonel but I am reluctant to start. Side effects are very worrisome... not sure what to do. I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them.
Nicelady Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
Avatar n tn I expect she is Anxious about it all aswell does she get out and is she as busy as she can be as she has a lot of pain ,it could make her feel very fedup, and that makes it worse.Does she have exercises to do for the Osteoporosis, I think they reccomend some to strenghthen her .
