Common Questions and Answers about Evista for men

evista

Avatar n tn Is there any drug interaction between these two drugs ? I am taking Evista for Osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn Could my recurrence of Ovarian cancer be attributed to my taking Evista for a year? I had ovarian cancer 15 years ago and after surgery and chemo, and a "second look" surgery with multiple biopsies was considered cured.I had a complete hysterectomy and the cancer seemed to be contained in my left ovary. Last winter I found a lump in my left groin which was biopsied and diagnosed as ovarian malignancy.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hair loss in a known but not highly common side effect of Evista. If you do a search: "Evista and hair loss" you will find numerous references to this side effect. This link: http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/evista/hair+loss indicates that as of Sep. 15, 2013, 17,635 people were reported to the FDA to have side effects when taking Evista. Among them, 259 people (1.47%) have Hair Loss. Time on Evista when these people had hair loss: < 1 month 4.35% 1 - 6 months 4.
Avatar m tn Hi there I too was recommend to go on Evista. I am going to take it. i ave been on Fosamax for the last year. That was prescribed by my primary doctor. My oncologist recommended that I take the Evista, besides the helping of osteoporsis I have ADH (atypical ductal hyperplasia) and have a high risk of cancer.
Avatar f tn he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. He said Evista was better then the tomoxafin because it causes less blood clots. Is this true? I haven't started any meds yet, since IM going to get a second opinon first to see what is the best course of medication for me to take.Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.
Avatar f tn ve been off of it for 60 days and still getting flashes. My onc wanted me to start Evista. I have osteoporosis, and being post menopausal and my mother having uterine cancer, the Tamoxifen was not for me. The Evista is suposed to help with osteoporosis as well as cut my chances of ibc in half. Since I am prone to hot flashes, doc prescribed Effexor, an anti-deppresant known to combat hot flashes to take along with the Evista.
600561 tn?1326845621 I am 68 and all tests indicate that I am in very good health. For the moment, my only perscription drug is Evista. Where can I go with this question? Thanks.
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?
Avatar n tn Thanks for adding your post on your original thread. Japdip answered you and I fully agree with everything she said to you. Best wishes ... --------------------------- japdip16 hours ago To: pinhole I don't know that you will have an opportunity to ask too many questions except of the Technician that takes the films. A diagnostic Mammogram simple means that a Radiologist will be present in the institution at the time of your test ....
Avatar f tn Did your doctor do hormone testing to see if you were perimenopausal or postmenopausal? It makes a difference in what medication they give you after treatment for breast cancer. I have one female oncologist out of the group of male oncologists I go to that is rational about me being on tamoxifen until my hormone levels change. The "men" in the group (no offense to any men on here) all want me on postmenopausal medications, even though my hormones say otherwise.
492490 tn?1255405372 There are also stage III clinical trials for Ovature out there to make you sensitive to platin again -- my doctor also keeps talking about Navelbine as a possible alternative treatment, although my research showed it mainly is used for small cell lung cancer. The Femara, Evista, and Arimidex and Tomoxifen are all used to try to stall the need for chemo again, but don't make anything go away, they just slow it down if the do anything at all,.
340734 tn?1256586262 For those that knew I started Tamoxifen 8 weeks ago, it didn't work for me. Today at my doctor's appt, I was told my number (CA125) went from 72 (8 weeks ago) to 161. Still not a significant number, but I'll be starting Taxol weekly for the next 6 months. (Hopefully) this will put the disease in check for me. Only time will tell. Now, I will be putting that chemo tracker to use, but I've been told that weekly Taxol is not so bad.
Avatar n tn I've been reading up on the interent and I am frightened for my health. This afternoon, I was struggling, and I took four Dulcolax pills. I took two yesterday. I have been having loose bowels and slight abdominal discomfort as well as feeling dizzy and faint. Should I worry about taking the four? How would I know if I needed to get to an emergency room?
Avatar f tn to be tollerable. Now I start Evista for lcis and osteoporosis. That is supposed to cause flashes. My doc says Effexor and Clonidine will help flashes. I do not want to take Effexor, and Clonidine may lower my blood pressure too much since I am already on two blood pressure meds. I will try the Evista and if get flashes again, I may just stop. I read magnesium helps, so I tried. It did help quite a bit, but unfortunately, if you take enough, you get diarrhea. Some choice.
Avatar f tn I do think that there is a very good chance that some, or all of your fatigue is related to your treatment, or specifically the radiation. I also had some late effects to either one or both chemotherapy and/or radiation. I am much more tired also now than I was during radiation, like you and for me it's been several month. (I also take Tamoxifen) Often, with radiation, late effects show up as many as ten years later.
Avatar n tn hi this is my mums condition thats why im unable to give you the names of the tablets the main cause is 4 weeks ago she started on hormone tablets for breast cancer ,this is her 1st week on radiotheraphy,at the end of the week she has started with servere pains in the groins of her legs and has been unable to get out of bed cause she cant walk and if she trys to stand up she says it feels like her insides are going to fall out.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the kind remark. I am thankful for my years of good health!
Avatar n tn Two lymph nodes were involved, I had a lumpectomy, lymph node dissection (l5), chemo, radiation, and tamoxifen followed by evista, which I currently take. My mother and her sister both had breast cancer (neither died from cancer). No one ever suggested I have anything but a yearly mammogram, always negative. I am most concerned about my daughter, who is scheduled for the MRI guided biopsy Feb. 20. I also wonder if I should be getting any tests other than the yearly mammogram.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia as the result of an ultrasound guided needle biopsy where they took 7 tissue samples. Now, it has been advised that I proceed to a surgical biopsy at the end of this month. I'm a nervous wreck as my mom and her cousin have both had breast cancer (at the ages of 67 & 69). I've been told that 25% of these cases are positive for breast cancer which means that 75% are not and I am trying to focus on that number primarily.
Avatar n tn Evista can cause biliary calculus which could 'feed into' conditions that might result in pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Fosamax for osteopenia. I took the stuff for about 6 years, and each of my bone density test results were a little worse than the previous one. Recently I learned that many women who took this medication for as long as I did got femur fractures as a result. When a doctor on ABC national news suggested that women stop taking it after 5 years, I made an appointment with my doctor to discuss stopping this med. My doctor agreed, but now suggests that I take Evista.
Avatar n tn My RE put my dh on clomid last cycle. It seemed to increase his count. I have read that it may not increase the count and that it really is for hormonal imblances. Nonetheless, I have not heard of it decreasing the count. I think you should have more tests done to look into what is going with the count as that is a drastic drop. But remember, on the bright side, it only takes 1, although I know we like to hear high #s, reality/science calls for 1. Hang in there.
