Evista and bisphosphonates

Common Questions and Answers about Evista and bisphosphonates

evista

Avatar f tn I am no longer taking Evista, but while doing some research to see if I wanted to go back on it for my osteopenia, I found some references to a correlation between Evista and ovarian cancer and wondered if that could have had a bearing on my case. This discussion is related to Evista and Ovarian Cancer.
Avatar n tn t know that you should be taking evista and tamoxifen together , but the evista is definitely not a estrogen receptor. And who knows, maybe with them both it will help ward off further cancer problems. Just be careful because both can cause blood clots -- ask about taking lose dose (81 mg) aspirin or 1 mg warfarin to prevent the risk of clots. P.S. I am in the middle of treatment for another recurrence -- the evista didn't prevent an ovarian recurrence....
Avatar n tn Hi, Hair loss in a known but not highly common side effect of Evista. If you do a search: "Evista and hair loss" you will find numerous references to this side effect. This link: http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/evista/hair+loss indicates that as of Sep. 15, 2013, 17,635 people were reported to the FDA to have side effects when taking Evista. Among them, 259 people (1.47%) have Hair Loss. Time on Evista when these people had hair loss: < 1 month 4.35% 1 - 6 months 4.
Avatar m tn Has anyone heard of taking Tamoxifen or Evista as a possible step in breast cancer prevention? My doctor has suggested it because I'm in a high risk category. I'm not sure what to do.
Avatar f tn Tamoxifin can cause blood clots and uterine cancer. Evista is a little better in the side effects I believe, however everyone is different. I also have ADH(atypical ductal hyperplasia) and it increased my risk from 1.6 to 3.2 which is doubled, so I am considering the same thing. I am also having pathology reviewed by yet another lab to be sure it is not DCIS, which I am sure the other pathology report is no doubt correct. The best thing for you to do is to research. Then make your decision.
Avatar n tn He said that I am at high risk for bc (despite breastfeeding and full-term pregnancies before age 30 and onset of menstruation at age 13 and menopause at 52 and healthy weight, etc.) and that going forward I should be tested every six months with MRI and mammogram, alternately. He also said an oncologist would later discuss prophylactic treatment with tamoxifen or evista (I have osteopenia, and he said evista can be beneficial for that). I am very frightened and anxious.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm ok, but I think about this every day since I found out. It bothers me more than I thought it would. I have no known family history, but my mother died at 60 from complications from uterine cancer. I am post menopausal. When I was 49 my husband died and my periods just stopped suddenly and I had only hot flashes. But they were often and I would get drenched at work. So I took Prempro. I never stopped taking it because every time I tried the flashes came back.
600561 tn?1326845621 Just after breakfast seems so bizarre that I concentrate on that. Sometimes in the afternoon I am tired and I do rest so that is not terribly unusual.
Avatar m tn I'm a 31 yr old male, 3 years ago I was diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia of the frontal skull bone after developing a continuous headache. For reference purposes, I posted my MRI images here: http://robsaysrelax.googlepages.com/ My doctors have a strict aversion to operating for this due to it being non-life threatening, as the tumor is stable....
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?
Avatar m tn Recently I saw a new ENT who recommended bisphosphonates therapy and referred me to an endocrinologist for this and he told me if this doesn't work talk to him about an endoscopic operation. He said that a Reclast infusion may help me, or Fosamax. Please tell me what you know about this. I worry about 2 things right now-- what if the bone tumor is something else and not fibrous dysplasia, and the bisphosphonates make it worse by causing a more heavy calcification?
Avatar m tn HI, Endocrinologists do prescribe many bisphosphonates because we treat osteoporosis, paget's disease and others with these medications. Perhaps he simply wants to find someone very comfortable with those doses.
Avatar f tn I had estrogen positive stage 2 breast cancer eight years ago. I had my overies and breasts removed because I have a family history of breast cancer. I' m currently taking Evista and my estrogen level is the same as a mans. Am I out of the woods yet?
Avatar m tn 5 centimeter supra-orbital bone tumor that has been completely stable on scans since 3 and 1/2 years ago. I have had a continuous intractable headache behind my forehead which has not responded to the usual headache therapy regimen. It is believed to be monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the skull. I have found articles to suggest that high-dose bisphosphonate therapy (40 mg/day for 6 months) offers a significant improvement in patients with fibrous dysplasia of the skull.
492490 tn?1255405372 There are also stage III clinical trials for Ovature out there to make you sensitive to platin again -- my doctor also keeps talking about Navelbine as a possible alternative treatment, although my research showed it mainly is used for small cell lung cancer. The Femara, Evista, and Arimidex and Tomoxifen are all used to try to stall the need for chemo again, but don't make anything go away, they just slow it down if the do anything at all,.
Avatar f tn It is very low in many women with bc, and perhaps also other cancers, and mine was. It causes weakness and achiness as well.
Avatar n tn I think you are talking about several different things, There are different treats for osteoporosis one of the more popular and common are bisphosphonates. They are given generally prescribed orally and include Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva. They can cause some severe stomach distress as they did for my father. When this happens there are injectable forms of bisphosphonates.
Avatar n tn hi this is my mums condition thats why im unable to give you the names of the tablets the main cause is 4 weeks ago she started on hormone tablets for breast cancer ,this is her 1st week on radiotheraphy,at the end of the week she has started with servere pains in the groins of her legs and has been unable to get out of bed cause she cant walk and if she trys to stand up she says it feels like her insides are going to fall out.
Avatar f tn Your doctor (after consulting his PDR, if necessary) or your pharmacist should be able to provide the name and address of the pharmaceutical company that makes the drug in which you are interested. (Or you could do an Internet search for it, if you don't want to bother them.) You might also want to contact the National Osteoporosis Foundation for more information about that diagnosis, and possible sources of assistance for treatment of it. Best wishes...
Avatar f tn If anyone can tell me something about Arimidex and the above side effects and osteopenia and whether or not I need to start a bisphosphonates please let me know.
Avatar f tn however had a complete hysterectomy at 21 and have been on hormone replacement. I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast? I went in for my annual mamo last week and have been called back yet again. New spot directly under the nipple, same breast. Sheduled US for next week. So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..
Avatar n tn for the treatment of Osteoporosis and all have some value. One with a similar name (Boniva) is used quite often and is said to have good results. Since we deal strictly with Breast Cancer issues on this Community you might look at the top of the page under "Health Information" where you will find a subtitle "Osteoporosis" and post there or read other posts and comments. Regards ....
Avatar m tn partial sacralization of l5. anterior fusion of l3 and l4. vertabral body and disc heights maintained. Moderate aortic calcifications are seen cervical spine: no fractures or subluxations. disc space narrowing at c5-c6 vertibral body heights maintained. minimal bony spurring at c5-c6 also noted.
