Avatar f tn cysts of ovaries, depression, dizziness, hair loss are more common with implanon.Evra patch contains more of estrogen compared to implanon. The major problem or disadvantage with the patch is that it can increase the risk of blood clot formation more than the conventional pill. Failure rates of evra patch are more compared to implanon. It is necessary to ensure that the woman will have maximum benefit with least side effects.
Avatar f tn Hello, After hysterectomy, hormone replacement therapy would consist of estrogen alone usually given daily by pill or sometimes weekly or biweekly skin patch. However hormonal replacement therapy should be given for a short time only as long term use may be associated with a small increase in breast cancer. In my opinion you should consult a gynecologist and start with hormone replacemenr therapy.
429647 tn?1249753429 how about asking your doc if the tumor was estrogen positive or not.
Avatar f tn I am new to this forum, and new to the world of menopause. I recently had my last ovary removed due to cysts and endometreosis. I did not want to go through menopause or life with no estrogen at age 35, so I opted for the estrogen hormone therapy. I chose to go with the Estradiol patches. I think that it regulates the estrogen more efficiently and you can't forget to take a pill! Let me give you my two cents on your issues...know that I am not a dr., but am going through this myself.
405614 tn?1329144114 Are the headaches the main reason that you are feeling icky? I haven't had a period in 15 years, however, I can tell you that migraine headaches are effected by fluctuations in hormones. I went to a neurologist that only specialized in headaches a few years ago, because I was having them almost daily. I cut the caffeine out of my diet and made a few other dietary changes, which really helped. Also, I was put on a higher dose of the beta blocker I was taking.
Avatar n tn Hi! I have low estrogen and normal FSH (I'm 38, though). My course of action is to wear an estrogen patch from 3 days after ovulation to 12 days after ovulation (since that's when mine is dropping off). I have heard of (and tried it once, but didn't like how I felt) that the patch can also be worn during CD8-12 to help with low estrogen. My acupuncturist told me that the patch is the most similar to actual estrogen (versus pills) so I pushed for that!
Avatar f tn The last six months I started getting my P every month for 3 weeks! My doc first prescribed me an estrogen (Estradiol) pill and told me to take it when my P was longer then 10 days. Well that didn't work. Two months ago he put me on the patch. A new patch every week. It worked the first month and I got no period at all (which is what he told me would happen) now I'm starting to bleed again. I'm so frustrated and I'm worried that it's gonna be another month long period.
17008026 tn?1453000615 Hi! During the last six months my weight has increased from ~135 (60 kg) to almost 175 (80kg) pounds. This happens even though my general level of exercise has increased and I just eat approximately 1300-1500 calories a day. I would have asked my doctor about this but he's not very accessible at the moment, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to get an answer to this type of question.
Avatar n tn If you start a birth control pill, talk to your endo first. Mine told me I could stop, but forgot to lower the dose of thyroid medicine and it screwed everything up.
Avatar f tn The P450 system helps process both of the hormones in the pill, the patch, and the ring—estrogen and progestin. Some medicines speed up or slow down this enzyme system. If the system is revved up, it will go to work breaking down and removing the hormones faster than normal, resulting in lower levels of the hormones to get the job done. It can result in such low levels of hormone that the pill, patch, or ring don’t work. What if I take a medication that messes with hormonal birth control?
Avatar f tn I take estrogen patch & medroxyprogesteron pill &also I have hot flashes. I'm only 33yrs old.

7649183 tn?1393014236 Menostar is an ultra, ultra low-dose estrogen patch (0.014 mg/day) that has recently been approved for unopposed estrogen use in postmenopausal women. It is indicated for bone protection only and does not offer any vasomotor symptom relief. You can get these patches prescribed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn talk to your doctor about estrogen testing...Im assuming you still have ovaries,,,they often dont function "right' when uterus is removed..if your low on estrogen and I bet you are the cure is simple...I choose the patch its easy and no bad side effects...its a simple blood test to determine if you need hormones.
Avatar n tn great question , about how I decided I read Mary53 a member here who is a nurse, she has an excellent page on hrt, I choose to try the least amt possible at first some women need testosterone. I did not. I did need estrogen...I use Vivelle patch for the ease of use, and accuracy in dosage, some hrt is cremes or sprays dont see how one would be sure of dose, the patch is very small about 1/2 square inch just apply 2 times per week( 3 for some) and thats it....
Avatar n tn I am sorry your wife's gyn removed all her parts. Mine were also removed (needlessly since all that needed to be removed was an ovarian cyst). For me, the effects were severe in every way. I became suicidal and aged dramatically overnight (hair, skin, vision, muscle mass) and couldn't function... couldn't concentrate, think logically, remember anything, couldn't sleep, etc. Estrogen was a huge help for me.
Avatar f tn I was told the IUD is too dangerous for me with my medical history so that is out, i plan to exclusively breastfeed so any pill with estrogen is out as well. Only leaves the mini pill, however, if you are over a certain weight the pill is less effective (i am over that weight). The shot is also out because it almost killed me as a teenager. Which means i have no birth control options after i deliver. :( and getting my tubes tied is not an option as hubby wants a boy still.
778044 tn?1299542934 I have a question for anyone using the Ortho Evra Patch to help control their endometriosis. It says right on the box that you are exposed to 60% more estrogen using the patch then other birth control pills. Since estrogen "feeds" endometriosis, how does this make sense? I have been advised by my doctor after 6 months of Lupron injections, to use the patch consistantly (not having a patch off week and not getting a period) until we are ready to get pregnant.
709441 tn?1233340088 I am not a doctor, just someone who has been on Bioidentical hormones since 2000 after my Hysterectomy (radical). I, too, started that very day on an estrogen patch. I use Vivelle Estradiol... climara is good, too. Newer research indicates that Estradiol (the kind of estrogen we had pumping through us in our 20's) is the only way to go. The book I mentioned a thousand times has been the most helpful to me. "Screaming to be Heard" by Dr.
Avatar f tn Nothing. Lol as crazy as it sounds but my hubby and I know how to take care of ourselves. When I was younger I used to take the pill but it didn't really work for me since I'm very very very forgetful. I never got pregnant or anything like that but I'm not the most fertile person either so yeah. And with the depo shot I bled the whole three months of it! It was horrible! And that's when I started gaining weight unfortunately.
Avatar f tn Oh definitely - headaches can be caused by ovarian hormone changes. Since your only ovary was removed two months ago, you may still have some of your body's own estrogen and the patch may be giving you too much. Or the fluctuations of the patch may be the cause of your headaches. The problem is that every woman who has hormonally triggered headaches is different and what works for one may or may not work for another. So it is a matter of trial and error to find what works best.
Avatar f tn Estrogen causes some of the glands in the breast tissue to swell .Birth control patch causes consistent release of estrogen which causes elevated estrogen levels throughout the body making the breasts become larger. If you are too concerned it will be best to discuss it with your gynecologist. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn Bio identicals in my opinion and most on here are the best...I like Vivelle its an estrogen patch you apply below the belly button on pelvis and change 2 or 3 times per week according to drs advise..I did not have any blood test for this its not necessary if your ovaries are gone you have no estrogen,.Calcium is good, for bones, I had restless legs and leg cramps right after my hyster but they stopped when i started bioidenticals...a multivitamin is a good idea too.
