587083 tn?1327120262 With menopause your body stops making estrogen. Eating soy products seems to boost the estrogen a bit, but is that good? I was a regular consumer of soy milk, tofu, edamame and flax seed after menopause. After my diagnosis of breast cancer (estrogen positive) my oncologist recommended I avoid soy products because even the weak phytoestrogens may stimulate cancer cells. Research is not conclusive but better to be safe. As the addage goes, 'all things in moderation.
Avatar f tn Almond milk is better its higher in calcium than regular milk. I can't drink it plain so I put strawberries and bananas in it and make a shake.
8112046 tn?1396620403 Just be careful with soy. It can causebissues woth estrogen in boys.
Avatar n tn But giving up all dairy products is just smart. All dairy cows produce a lot of estrogen just to produce milk. Forget the fact that they are given de-wormers, antibiotics, growth hormones and such. And animal estrogen isn't a good thing. Then there comes the debate about phytoestrogens in plants. Soy for instance .... so many studies and so many different answers! Keep everything in moderation and you will do well. I actually take a drug called neurontin for hot flashes.
Avatar m tn re already dealing with thryoid issues, as the estrogen levels are still affected by the thryoid and vice versa, whether male or female. It is estrogen in particular that soy affects in a huge way. Dr. Mercola explains more thoroughly and better than I can even begin to repeat why the traditionally fermented soy products are the only soy products that are even safe to consume.
Avatar n tn Dear tgim, Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) is an area (or areas) of abnormal cell growth that increases a person’s risk of developing invasive breast cancer later on in life. Lobular means that the abnormal cells start growing in the lobules, the milk-producing glands at the end of breast ducts. Carcinoma refers to any cancer that begins in the skin or other tissues that cover internal organs — such as breast tissue.
Avatar f tn This generally happens for two reasons which include a hormonal imbalance such as your body making too much estrogen or due to a small, benign (non cancerous) tumor in the pituitary gland. I had the same issue you are having. I was 'lactating' when not pregnant. I went through an MRI to make sure I did not have the pituitary tumor which I did not but blood work revealed the hormone imbalance.
492936 tn?1244651570 The most interesting thing to me was about the whole milk. Apparently hormones are in milk. Estrogen is in the fat - testosterone in the skim part. Drinking skim instead of whole gives you more testosterone and we women need estrogen for a healthy pregnancy - that is why you should eat whole milk, regular ice cream etc. Other than the milk part I didn't get much from it.
20922415 tn?1661860103 Progesterone is one of the sexual hormones in the female bodies maintains and regulates sexual well-being. In males, it is produced in a small amount for sperm development. It is the main and vital hormone that plays a significant role in menstrual cycle health preparing the body for conception and development of pregnancy. 1.
Avatar f tn It's always wise to get breast discharge or abnormal lactation checked out but would doubt it has anything to do with cancer. Women get prolactemia usually in relation to a hormonal imbalance. There is one thing that some have which is a small benign tumor in the pituitary gland. And MRI lets you know if this is the case. It's harmless in most women to have this tiny tumor but it messes up the hormones. Another is just a hormonal imbalance.
Avatar f tn But, I ate soy meat and drank soy milk. These raise you estrogen. Also I drank bottled water in plastic. WEll laying off of these helped some , got hormone free reg milk and cut down on soy meats but it took taking Indole-3 carbinol 400 mg. a day to work. Everytime I try to quit taking this migraines return. So I know it its working. Now maybe 1 day of my period or rarely two I will have a migraine and sometimes not at all. If I do have them now they are less severe.
266539 tn?1281402152 There is a BC pill that is progesterone only, I don't know brands but I took it while I was breastfeeding because estrogen can affect milk supply. It has a slightly higher failure rate than the estrogen/progesterone pill, but is still highly effective if taken at the same time every day. Condoms are another option.
Avatar f tn Well, prolactemia is a common occurrence when a woman has a hormonal imbalance. Producing just a bit too much estrogen can cause this. I agree with above that it is not milk production from a pregnancy (and when you had an abortion, it was simply the shifting of your hormones and not milk production and am very surprised your doctor gave you 'pills to dry it up". That is an odd diagnosis as most women who are truly lactating begin milk production AFTER the birth).
Avatar f tn I have some info on my profile about breastfeeding as a form of birth control. It's in my 'journals'. My midwife told me that estrogen free birth control is the safest while nursing. Estrogen can dry up your milk and if it doesn't, might cause issues with baby. Estrogen free versions include the paragaurd iud, the depo shot, and the 'mini pill' (progesterone only daily pill). I'd definitely decide what you want to do before baby comes!
Avatar f tn my baby was born on 6 march 2012 now i had 3 weeks and 1 day but my milk is not coming , one time just 1 ounce only thats not enough for my baby so what should i do
Avatar f tn What you are probably experiencing, considering your doctor stated you have this, is the continued decrease in estrogen production that happens while you are breastfeeding. This is why some women have periods, and others don't while breastfeeding, and some women can get pregnant while breastfeeding, and others can't. Everyone is different.
Avatar f tn s very doubtful it is actually milk. Women who deliver babies do not have their milk come in until a couple of days after giving birth. You likely have prolactemia which is like lactation but due to hormonal imbalance. I guess we will see what the ultrasound says but am guessing you are not going to turn out pregnant unless pregnancy has thrown your hormones off. If you aren't pregnant, get hormone levels checked.
Avatar f tn The vast majority are benign breast tumor that may appear at any age,but they are more common in women in their twenties and thirties. These benign lumps, are not related to breast cancer and are known to increase in size and tenderness in relation to the menstrual cycles due to hormonal changes. In many cases fibroadenomas could go away on their own within a few years. The development of these tumors is probably related to reproductive hormones.
Avatar f tn I actually had trouble with the pill as my lactation (ugh, really NOT cool when you are a single girl with no children . . . LOL) was due to too much estrogen and many pills are estrogen based. So, you'd have to talk to your doctor to see which pill if any would work in the situation of a hormonal imbalance.
Avatar f tn I have also read soy has phytoestrogen (estrogenic activity) so it will add to the already elevated levels of estrogen in the body of a PCOS sufferer, so it should be avoided. On the contrary some articles say that soy is good as it has estrogenic activity and would block the excess estrogen receptors in PCOS). Please advice. 2. Can I consume milk and egg white?
1310814 tn?1310654901 This is just my opinion but any processed soy could mess with your normal hormone levels as it is like estrogen can mess with your estrogen levels. Any natural soy should be ok.
Avatar f tn I remember that prior to starting treatment in Sept 09, I read somewhere that being post menopause would be a negative strike against me but I still opted to NOT take estrogen. I have been in surgical menopause since 1996, I took estrogen for 10 years and then quit because of the increased chance of breast cancer after taking estrogen so many years. I finished treatment (without taking estrogen since 2006) and I achieved SVR.
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your comment. I have never heard of casein. I just thought it was cow's milk overall constipating my daughter. Would you know if I give her protein power in almond milk is that equivalent to protein content found in cow's milk? If you do know of any brands of protein powder that are natural than chemically combined, I will go to an organic store to find out more as well. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Yes you can. You can go on the mini pill, get an iud, and possibly the nuva ring although im not 100% on that one. I personally loved the mini pill. Its progesterone based, no estrogen so safe for bf, and i had no side affects at all with it.
Avatar f tn The fact you seemed to easily put on muscle indicates your testosterone is there. There is no normal penis size, so that's a non-issue. The question there is, does it work, not how big it is. We come in all sizes and shapes and maybe this is just yours. But if you're truly concerned, see your doctor and get a blood test for sexual hormones.
Avatar f tn Pumping while pregnant won't cause your milk to come in early...
Avatar f tn While taking both of these I was able to give my baby breast milk till he was 8 months since there was almost 3 months of backstock frozen in my freezer. I lost my milk at 5 months because a mom sent her kid to daycare sick with flu and my son caught the flu and stopped latching. Was able to fill 2 8oz bottles in one pumping. Hope this helps out.
Avatar f tn Ok so I have not breastfeed in weeks almost a month now and I have had unprotected sex with my husband after having our first child he is almost 4 months now and my milk supply has recently gotten a large amount more than I ever have gotten and my tummy has been feeling weird as well could this increase of milk be a a sign that I am pregnant again? I am going to take a test in the morning but what do you think why do I have more milk now???
Avatar f tn Hi, that might not be milk, like breast milk for babies. Sometimes when our hormones are out of sync, we get this. I had it. It's called prolactemia. They first checked my pituitary gland for a small (NON DANGEROUS IF someone has it) tumor through MRI. I didn't have one so they also checked my hormone levels and I produced too much estrogen. My thyroid was also slow. All of that equates to a hormone imbalance and why I had the nipple discharge if I expressed or squeezed it.
