Avatar m tn In particular, hormones added to meats and poultries can inhibit testosterone production while encouraging the production of estrogen, which is the female hormone. Elevated levels of estrogen in men cause them to take on more feminine characteristics. In fact, when estrogen levels in men are higher than they should be, it can bring about a whole slew of unwanted and potentially dangerous side effects.
Avatar m tn Progesterone is needed to oppose oestrogen in men. If this goes on for long enough a man (yes, and a woman) can become oestrogen Dominant (too much oestrogen relative to Testosterone). By lowering stress and thus.. reducing cortisol, my progesterone levels should return to normal levels. If that is the case then why wouldn't it counter the extra oestrogen in my body automatically and remove the effects of oestrogen dominance?
Avatar f tn Estrogen-injected cattle, birth control pill residue in our rivers and lakes, rare side effects of steroid treatments, pseudo-estrogen from soy products, pseudo-estrogen from BPA in baby bottles and cans - nothing will ever be proven but there sure is a hormonal mess out there...
Avatar m tn Previous studies revealed the possibility that estrogen may have anti-fibrogenic effects, so researchers specifically looked at fibrosis development in the light of gender, age, and menopause. They looked at 163 enrollees, ages 23 to 84 years with a mean age of 55; 56% were male. Slightly more than half (55%) had progression of fibrosis, measured by a METAVIR fibrosis score of at least F3. Overall, males had higher progression rates at 66% versus 41% for women.
Avatar m tn My question is should I be taking this or something else to combat the effects of coming off testosterone injections? Some sites even stated I should have been on HCG during my therapy to reduce the side effects of shrinking testicles, which I have experienced. HCG is supposed to reverse this so I'm wondering if this is what I need, or just another supplement I can buy to help me feel better and energetic again.
Avatar f tn Long term pain management with opiates cause sexual dysfunction of 50% of all patients, both men and women. It causes testosterone deficiencies in both men and women, which is called hypogonadism. Docs are supposed to monitor testosterone levels, but seldom do because the topic just doesn't come up in the Doctors office. It's not just men that need to worry either, in fact it's of critical importance to women. Check it out, there's a lot more to read: pain-topics.
322099 tn?1210273164 Maybe to reduce estrogen? That is one of the effects of Clomid. Has he had hormone tests that show reduced male hormones as a causal factor for the low sperm count?
Avatar m tn //www.healthline.com/health/low-testosterone/anti-estrogen-diet-men It's all that healthy stuff, not surprising. It's got red grapes on it though which I personally like.
Avatar f tn The hypothalamus stimulates the pituitary gland to release follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH and LH cause the ovaries to produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen and progesterone are responsible for the cyclical changes in the endometrium (uterine lining), including menstruation. In addition, a woman’s genital tract should be free of any abnormalities to allow the passage of menstrual blood Why is Provera prescribed?
Avatar n tn Soy has estrogen like effects... have you tried drinking vanilla soymilk? You might want to get your thyroid function tested to make sure it is just the lack of (I think) progesterone that is causing your weight gain and not hypothyroidism.
Avatar m tn Ovariectomy and estrogen supplementation were used to evaluate the effect of estrogen on HBV titers in transgenic mice with replicating HBV in hepatocytes. The effect of estrogen signaling on transcription of HBV genes, and the mechanisms of regulation, were studied in HepG2 cells. RESULTS: HBV titers increased in female mice after ovariectomy and decreased in male mice supplemented with estrogen. Hepatic expression of estrogen receptor (ER)? was increased by estrogen exposure.
233616 tn?1312787196 I was on low level hormone therapy while going through the change but as soon as the symptoms subsided, I got off of it. Estrogen should be taken with progestergen to offset the adverse effects on the heart. It also increase the incidence of cancers. I would heavily weigh the odds before using it as a preventative for fibrosis.
492898 tn?1222243598 Tamifxifen blocks the estrogen receptor in the breast, whereas aromatase inhibitors block an enzyme called aromatase and keep if from converting androgen into estrogen. (Postmenopausal women get most of their estrogen from that conversion process, while premenopausal women get most of their estrogen from their ovaries.) I can't speak as to anyone's experience with Aromasin (I'm sure others with post about that!), but, of course, side effects very from indivdual to individual.
Avatar m tn the good old DHEA, but you better read up about it first as it can have some funny side effects with the odd person, you could also back it up with some Tirbulus, will do the same thing but without any side effects, they will both boost your testosterone, your libido and your energy levels, you can google Tribulus for any more info.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am 17, I am on Depo Provera and am having side effects such as constant bleeding (1 month and half) and the common mood changes. I was told that if I take estrogen I can minimize the bleeding or even stop it...However I was informed by a nurse that due to breast cancer running in my family if I starting to take an estrogen pill so early it can potentially make my risk of breast cancer even higher for the future.
Avatar m tn An article in Scientific American (and many other articles on the Internet) says that castrated men live as much as 14 years longer than other men. Many castrated men have lived long, healthy, productive, and successful lives for thousands of years. For more than four years, I have been reading on the Internet about how to reduce androgens. I have fasted, prayed, and meditated seeking to reduce my androgens.
Avatar m tn An adequate intake of indole-3-carbinol (I3C), through vegetables such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cabbage, or via supplements, may prove to be very helpful for aging men in both keeping estrogen levels in check and decreasing their risk of prostate cancer. 5. Zinc is essential for optimal testosterone production. One supplement that should be considered absolutely essential for maintaining a man’s testosterone levels is zinc.
Avatar m tn ve noticed in the forums I read is that women seem to have more and worse side effects and perhaps estrogen contributes to this or perhaps since women in general weigh less than men there is a greater percentage of meds in their body causing both greater side effects and possible greater cure rate. I just find it really interesting.
Avatar f tn I would rather deal with overkill than with BC any day. I have 2 years to go on it.....I deal with the side effects....and I hope that someday this will just be a memory of a tough time in my life. Thanks to modern medicine...I am a survivor....and plan to stay that way! By the way, those questions would be good to ask your oncologist...I'm sure he/she can give you much more thorough answers. Blessed Be......from one survivor to another...
Avatar n tn s pretty scarce on the subject relating to men. I did find that men need a little different range in the T4/3 to feel good. Are you currently on any thyroid replacement? Thanks for your post and I will add to watch list and shoot you any further information I may find. Best of luck!
Avatar n tn I got a prescription for it and have been on it for almost a year. It cuts the estrogen production in the body, so that if your cancer is estrogen receptive, it's less likely that it will recur. I'm hoping for the best, because the side effects are kinda tough. So, yep, you bettcha I'm on it!
Avatar n tn Some men using saw palmetto report difficulty with erections, testicular discomfort, breast tenderness or enlargement, and changes in sexual desire. Saw palmetto may have effects on the body's response to the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone, but no specific effect has been well demonstrated in humans. It would be best to discuss this with your doctor for proper evaluation and for alternative supplements. (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/patient-sawpalmetto.
Avatar f tn It is still very tough and yes, I wish men could remotely understand what this is like. Most men cry over a cold, they have no idea what this is like. Hang in there and know you are not alone.
