epogen for horses

I had absolutely no problems with epogen whatsoever. I took 40,000 two times a week and it got my HGB up to 10.5 or so and kept it there. You do not want to get higher than 12 that is where the black box warning comes in. But as for real side effects, I've never ever heard of anyone having any and I've been here for over six years!

Vet is suggesting epogen but I have read Epogen can have side effects and can quit working for an animal anywhere from 1-4 months of treatment. I am enquiring about an iron supplement to try first instead of injections, b/c her HCT has not follow under 20 as of yet . Vet said it was not at crucial stage as of yet so would an iron supplement be ok to try right now , of course with the ok of her vet ?

Do you mean epogen when you say bone marrow stims, or did your doctor mean something else? I know some people get the riba dose lowered or take epogen for anemia or both but I don't know about adding boc. or tela. So far if the trial allowed epogen then fine but if the trial didn't allow it then the only option for really bad anemia is to drop the riba dose. Your anemia sounds like it was pretty bad so I guess have a plan in place in case it drops again. I think boc.

Short of getting two different strengths of epo at the time, it was my only alternative. Since I will always have to be on epogen, its really helpful for me even now to be able to take 5k or 15k of epo instead of having to either take the full 20k or wasting the rest of the bottle, or storing it in a not so safe condition.

I have owned and rode horses all my life. I am having difficulty coping with not being able to ride because ppl told me I cant. Is it seriously that big a deal to ride? I don't want to hurt my baby, but it's literally the only thing I have done for myself and can't deal with giving it up for so long...

My father was diagnosed with Hepatitis C about a year ago. He's been in and out of the hospital for transfusions and is now on all kinds of medication. He thinks that he shouldn't worry us with any bad news, so he really doesn't tell us much about his visits and whatnot. I know that he has also been diagnosed with cyroglobinemia and now something with his thyroid. The medication he is on is Epogen 40,000, Neupogen singleject 480 mg and also ribavirin. That is all I know of.

Hi everyone, I've followed a lot of conversations in the last year or so. My other half (Shirley) is on week 41 of treatment and feeling really unwell. Her latest bloods showed her white cells down to 9.2. She isn't getting a great service from the hospital but I am encouraging her to ask for Procrit which seems to be a big help.

Thanks for the reply Mike....that's what I thought! I don't know why my NP would tell me such a thing. I'm wondering if my HGB being at 9.8 is much of a problem...also how low can it get before someone would need some helper meds pronto! best wishes...

How low did your hemoglobin go? Did you use procrit or epogen? Sorry for all the questions but I have kept a spreadsheet and am always curious about who treated with what and why one person succeeds and another fails.

Have you tried talking to someone about some of your problems. A good friend, your pastor would be great as sometimes our view points are not what they really are. I have been learning alot about myself by going to counselling along with the thyroid meds etc. I have found that a lot of the things that I believed about myself were lies that I picked up over the years. As I realize the truth it is freeing me to view my life in a more positive manner.

I am currently 29 weeks and 4 days, and for the past 2 weeks I've been having charlie horse cramping in my calves that wake me up out of my sleep. They are very painful... and I was wondering if any other moms out there ever had this happen to them. I called my doctor and they ordered some tests stat.

Having horses for many years I am certain it's fly allergies.You can put a fly mask on him during the day and take it off at night. If you are boarding have the care taker feeding the horses take it off for you and put it on in the mornings if your not there. In his morning grain you can give him benadrill about 4 pink pills once in the morning with his feeding or evening if he eats grain in the evening hours.

Why is it that when pregnant you get more charlie horses that hurt ten times worse then when your not Pregnant? And how the heck do I get rid of it cause I burst into tears now everytime I get them.

Last night I kept waking up with a charlie horse more then once in both legs n now my legs are really really sore. What can I do to stop these damn Charlie horses?

I'm 26 weeks and every night for the last week or two I've been waking myself up in the middle of the night with a Charlie horse in my leg. Then I usually fix it but then a bit later it'll be my other leg. I know it's not a dietary thing because I take my prenatals everyday and usually drink an organic juice cleanse that has 100% of daily fruits and vegetables in it. Has any one else experienced this while pregnant and know why?

At night when I stretch or randomly I will get the worst leg cramps where I cry and it won't go away for like 15 seconds. Any one else have this problem, any splutions? I try to rub my leg better, but sometimes it doesn't work. Last pregnancy it happened as well, and I tried walking but that didn't go so well either.
