hernia-surgery

Avatar m tn Although I am a bit overweight, I knew that this was not normal. Finally a diagnosis.. I have an epigastric hernia so I have surgery and fix it right? Well, my surgery is scheduled for THIS FRIDAY (two days from today) and now I am reading all of the forums and all of the bad news from patients that are sorry they went through with the surgery. ARE THERE ANY GOOD AFTER SURGERY REPORTS OUT THERE? I don't know if I will make an already bad situation worse or if there is hope for me.
Avatar f tn m similar to megmeg where I had a section then umbilical hernia surgery then epigastric hernia surgery then my appendix removed so I definitely have numb spots on my skin but at about 24 weeks I started feeling real kicks and rolls but at 20 weeks its was weaker and very random...
Avatar n tn Prior to this time which dates back to 1968 my military records show Epigastric pain and acute Epigastric pain with substantial chest pain. I am having some problems with my claim with the Veterans Administration for medical benefits because there's no documentation in my military records for haital hernia which was from 1955 to 1975.
Avatar n tn The radiologist and my PCP thought it was a lipoma (fatty tumor) but I took everything to the surgeon and he diagnosed epigastric hernia or also called ventral hernia. It bothered me when I ate too much or when my guts were acting up and it didn't feel good if I pressed on it.
Avatar f tn Hi, Did you mean epigastric hernia? It is not visible over the abdomen, as it is sliding of the upper part of the stomach into the esophagus. For a abdominal/inguinal hernia, the bulge usually increases on coughing and decreases on lying down. If there is no pain or discomfort, both hernias are not a contraindication for sex. And sex will not worsen the hernia. Regards.
Avatar f tn I developed an umbilical and epigastric hernia after my first. It happens because your uterus pushes you stomach muscles apart and for me they just didn't go back together. Ask your Dr about diastsis recti exercises. They helped me a lot.
Avatar f tn I would go to both a gyn and a gastro DR,as has been advised. You could have a small hernia. It's in the area where I have one..and sometimes it doesn't show up on my scans either. Good luck..I hope it's nothing for you to worry over.
Avatar f tn I have not responded to medications (Prilosec, Protonix, Pepcid, Nexium, Reglan, Baclofen, Trazodone) for GERD, hiatal hernia. It seems like some people go for many years without considering surgery and I have only been trying meds for about 5 months. The symptoms that seem most difficult to control are the cough, hoarseness, heartburn, and feeling like something is stuck in my chest. Bile reflux is also part of the problem since I had my gall bladder removed 30+ years ago. The dr.
Avatar f tn Another possibility is hiatal hernia, where a portion of stomach herniates into the chest cavity through the diaphragm. Cough or heart problems too cause discomfort in chest area. Another possibility is pancreatitis. Over the counter antacids and omeprazole may give relief. I would strongly recommend you see a physician about this and get yourself investigated accordingly. Excessive drinking, smoking, caffeine, fried food should be avoided. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have had chronic epigastric pain for almost 9 years. Have had ct scan, endoscope, colonoscopy and cbc, all O.K. Since March of this year the pain has become almost unbearable. Gastro still thinks its IBS but nothing has helped but lying down on my right side. He won't do anything else for me. I have brought up the SOD but he says he doesn't think so. It hurts worse when sitting up or walking around a lot. I feel horrible but no one doctor cares to figure this out.
Avatar f tn Also, notice belching, nausea and my stomach would swell” could be due to epigastric hernia, where a part of stomach or intestine herniates. It could in addition be due to acidity and gastric reflux. Possibility of a hiatal hernia too needs to be ruled out. I suggest you consult a gastroenterologist. Meanwhile eat light. Avoid tea, coffee, smoking, alcohol, spicy and oily food. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I had burning epigastric pain while drinking my morning coffee. Later in the day I developed sharp pain in my lower right quadrant that comes in waves. Bowel movements normal but excessive for me(5) I have gastric erosions that I take Prilosec for and a small hiatal hernia. Should I be concerned as the pain isn't going away and is a 8/10 on a pain scale .
1034643 tn?1252594904 Since it is associated with vomiting, the lump could be distended stomach, trapped loops of intestine or epigastric hernia. There could be obstruction to the small bowel. Please consult a doctor ASAP or go to the ER since the lump is getting larger and vomiting is worsening. It could also be gastroparesis or slowing of the stomach movement. It would be ideal if a gastroenterologist can see you soon. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar n tn I have had GERD and a hiatal hernia for a long period of time. I am currently having a big flare up of some kind which seems a little different. Normally my pain is in the breastbone area, now I am having pain in the upper abdominal area between the chest and the navel. What are the differences in the symptoms of an ulcer and GERD? I continue to have a lot of belching and indigestion constantly as I do with GERD, but the different area for pain had me wondering if this could be an ulcer. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Dear Cpoetic My only concern is the midline lump in abdomen which if of long duration; can be a epigastric hernia/ Paraumbilical hernia or is of short duration then you should see a doctor. Ultrasound and Upper GI endoscopy are two main investigation I will think will be of help, initially.
Avatar f tn After a few nights sleep, when I tried to get up from bed after waking I felt severe pain in my upper ribcage, epigastric area....it radiates to the sides. This pain lasts for approx 2-3 hours after getting out of bed. I have tried different beds, etc. I went to PCP and he tried me on omeprazole...and librax. I have had an UGI and the only thing that shows is a minimal sliding hiatal hernia. I also had an ERCP done with an ejection fraction of 34. So far ...no diagnosis for this pain.
Avatar f tn I am a 24yr old female who has been experiencing severe epigastric pain for the last 4months. It started with some very uncomfortable pain right in the middle of my chest, between my breasts on the sternum. I went to my family doctor who thought two things...GERD or gallstones since i have a family history. I had an ultrasound sound which in deed some a gallstone. So in July, I had my gallbladder taken out only to feel worse.
Avatar m tn A swelling at the base of your sternum that at times swells could be an epigastric hernia. It could also be a cyst. It could be an enlarged heart or a bloating of stomach. Please get a gastric surgeon. Hope this helps. Take care!
