Avatar f tn however, if your metabolism is low due to low thyroid hormone levels it becomes easier to gain weight and extremely difficult to lose weight and keep it off. We can help assess your status if you will post your thyroid test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report. Also, please tell us about any other symptoms you have.
Avatar n tn However, my weight fluctuates terribly, and have a lot of bloating and now I am suffering with enlarged and tender breasts. I eat a healthy vegetarian diet so why am I having trouble with losing weight.. Is there any supplements or anything I can do to speed up my metabolism?
Avatar f tn I struggle with my weight as it is and i have heard that with a total thyroidectomy and going on synthroid weight gain is an almost certainty. Can anyone shed light on this..I am considering a partial and if its cancer having it done again. Good or bad decision?
Avatar m tn For the past two years I have been having various symptoms that align with hypothyroidism. I have been fatigued, severe brain fog, thinning hair, weight gain, cold hands and feet, cold intolerance, etc.. I have had numerous tests which show normal thyroid profiles (TSH, T3, T4, etc) however ultrasounds and CT scans have shown that I have an enlarged thyroid with nodules. I have also developed food and environmental allergies, as well as chronic lymphdenopathy in my groin, armpits, and neck.
1972965 tn?1334854702 I understand the tests which would show an enlarged gland, I have one myself. What would really help us is what tests were run to return a diagnosis of hypothyroid, the actual results, and reference ranges of the instrument used to run the tests. While it's generally thought that hypo's gain weight and hyper's lose weight, it's barely statistically significant as both are metabolic disorders that can swing either way, and many times do.
Avatar f tn Lab results and associated reference ranges vary from one lab to another. So to try and assess your status, we need you to post the reference ranges shown on the lab report for those test results. Since each person can have different thyroid hormone levels at which they feel normal, lab tests are not the best way to assess a person for the possibility of hypothyroidism. The presence of numerous symptoms typical of hypothyroidism is the best measure.
Avatar f tn So I looked up enlarged thyroid and I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism; hair loss, weight gain, inability to lose weight, fatigue, trouble concentrating and thinking, achy pretty much everywhere, ect. My throat is very tender and it feels like I don't have as much room in my throat as I should. Eating and breathing are more diffucult then they should be. Today I had an appointment with a new doctor I've never seen before.
Avatar m tn Often with enlarged thyroid (goiter) there are symptoms which many doctors tend to ignore. Tiredness, weight gain, hair loss, etc. Cheers!
Avatar f tn t expected was the finding that my thyroid is enlarged and that the left lobe extendsbelow the sternum. The spinal surgeon asked me to see my regular Dr. to get it checked out. Had an appt with her yesterday. She ordered a tsh, t3 and a free t4. She is referring me to an endocrinologist for a thyroid scan and possible biopsy. Is it possible that I have thyroid cancer? I don,t have the lab results back yet but can pass them on when I do get them back.
Avatar n tn I am 42 yrs old and my medications include Toprol, Simvistatin, and now recently added both Loestra and Synthroid 25 mg. for an enlarged thyroid. Since starting the BC and SYnthroid, I have gained about 10 lbs. I know that some of it is inactivity in the winter, but I don't normally gain like this. I started the Synthroid in November, and feel MUCH better.
Avatar f tn I have started gaining weight beyond the weight gain of my antidepressants. Besides the weight gain and aversion to heat, I am at a loss about what to think. I had an MRI without contrast (allergy to shellfish), and now I've been summoned to the ENDO clinic in 4 days. Does anybody have ideas? My last blood workup seemed to be normal. Again, whats the difference between a LARGE thyroid and ENLARGED thyroid? I cannot find "large" thyroid on the web. Anybody???
Avatar m tn Thyroid surgery does not make people fat -- the thyroid levels will be restored with thyroid medication and there should not be significant weight gain. Patients often assess weight gain to the thyroid, but in reality, it's that they are eating more calories than they need and metabolism slows w/ age.
Avatar f tn It is NOT the thyroid medication that is causing you to gain weight and be "puffy" etc. It is that you are still HYPO (LOW) thyroid! You are almost certainly under-medicated as gimel explained.
Avatar f tn Also, I have weight gain problems and difficulty losing weight. I am highly irritable, constantly tired, lazy, small appetite, wake up with a congested sinus daily, monthly neck pain such as a pulled muscle & constantly hot so I keep my AC at 68. Every month before my period I get something similar to a kiloid cyst along my groin that swells up so bad it hurts to close my leg & sometimes it needs to be drained because it is develops a bit of pus but it disappears right after my period.
Avatar f tn About a year and a half ago, I moved to another state and since, have been having my medication go up and down about every six weeks. I have been basically feeling like ****. Weight gain and all the stuff that goes with a messed up thyroid. I finally decided to go to an endocrinologist. Making a long story short, They did an ultrasound and found that I still had part of my right lobe. (the side that the solid tumor was on.) I also have enlarged lymph nodes on that side.
Avatar n tn grandmother goiter, thyroid probs, her two sisters died of thyroid problems, aunt had thyroid cancer. I need help, feel lousy. Blood tests tsh 1.82 (.6 3 years agao) total t4 11.5 (upper limit of normal was 10.7) antibody tests both normal NO free t4 or free t3, ultrasound for enlarged thyroid per exam was unremarkable Should I pursue more thyroid testing? Is it better to get them done first thing in the am? Anything else I should pursue?
Avatar n tn Would test PTH and Calcium -- if elevated, then it may be a parathyroid problem, but that does not cause weight gain. Nor does properly treated hypothyroidism. 1500 calories/day may be a weight maintenance intake even with your current activity.
Avatar f tn So, when I confronted him about why I have thyroid swelling and normal blood work, an enlarged right thyroid lobe, heterogeneous echo texture and feeling like dog poop - he did nothing and was apparently offended. He told me I did not have a thyroid problem so I left utterly humiliated and had to call his office back to see if I even needed the stupid levothyroxine. He said I did so I guess I have enough of a thyroid problem to be medicated, but not enough of one to be treated like a human.
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying. The Scans done in Aug and Nov were Ultrasound, it was only yesterday that I had a CT. I'm in quite a bit of pain and can barely talk at the moment, I'm just hoping that something is done. I wake up in the middle of the night not being able to breathe, like someone had their hands around my throat and it's just horrible. Do you know if there's any cause for a Thyroid to be enlarged with there isn't a Thyroid disease present?
Avatar f tn All of my thyroid functions are normal when tested. I do feel symptomatic - tired, hair thinning, weight gain.
Avatar n tn Thyroid meds should never be prescribed for weight loss or to prevent weight gain if your thyroid is functioning normally. For one thing, it doesn't work. Your thyroid will compensate for the meds you are taking by producing less thyroid hormone, and your blood levels will remain very close to the same.
693091 tn?1227570992 my mom and aunt both have thyroid issues~nearly 4 months ago i began having a migraine and headaches that have never gone away,i feel a little sensation in my throat sometimes,a heaviness, and my thyroid is enlarged...sometimes i get headrushes and tightness in my chest...i gain weight easily...due to the migraines, buzzing in my hands and feet,i had two M.R.I'S and they thought i had M.S. but after much testing was simply diagnosed with a mgraine disorder.
Avatar f tn He asked about symptoms and I told him I was experiencing Sleep disturbance, weight gain, dry skin, fatigue and thinning hair. He ordered some labwork and had me go for an ultrasound. Results TSH 2.164, Thyroxine, fee 1.04, Free T3 2.79, the ultrasound showed slightly enlarged right lob and some scattered tiny cysts bilaterally. He said because I had so many symptoms he started me on Levothyroxine 50 mcg once a day. I had labs one month later with results, TSH 0.902, Thyroxine fee 1.33.
Avatar m tn I’ve had 2 needle biopsies both inconclusive. The Thyroid specialist is more concerned with the wall of the enlarged thyroid rather then the liquid within it. All my blood work is normal however the thyroid specialist told me that it’s about a 15-20% chance it could be cancer. I haven't had too many problems with the enlarged thyroid besides the fact I feel pressure when I swallow. but I worry that it will get worse and it will also affect my breathing.
Avatar f tn Since then I have struggled with weight. Even though I had a huge weight gain and all kinds of odd symptoms, no one diagnosed my Hashimoto's until I was 40 years old and then it was purely by accident that it was diagnosed. I am now 49 years old and I have been on Synthorid and that didn't help with my symptoms of being cold, tired and achy. So I went on Armour. Armour got rid of the always cold feeling, but I still have lots of symptoms.
