I have been told to get off Enbrel for needed gallbladder surgery. My problem is that when I get off Enbrel, every joint in my body swells, turns red, hurts unbearably and locks up. I become completely bedridden and cannot get dressed or go to the bathroom without help. My blood tests show that, even with the Enbrel, my c reactives and other immune response numbers are very high. They tell me that they will give me prednisone to help with the reaction.
t stay on it very long until I have an infection and have to go off for awhile. Enbrel seemed a little nicer but not quite enough to control my disease. Its a fine line. I also live on 15 mg Prednisone a day, more or flares. I have lesions in my bowel from the disease that need to be controlled or my bowel has to be taken out soon. But again, lesions, then infection, lesions, then infection. The Lord giveth and The Lord taketh away; BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD!
My wife has been through the ringer for the past 4 months, taking more blood tests, xrays, ultrasounds, etc than I care to remember. He joint pain in her fingers, knees, ankles and shoulders are pretty constant, though she just had an amazing pain-free 3 weeks. It just came back over the weekend, leaving her depressed and frustrated.
My point is, the only test that she has tested positive for is HLA-B27, suggesting possible reactive arthritis.
Hi I have been on Enbrel injections for over 4 years and i can't praise the drug enough fantastic results - i have the chance to visit family in Australia for 4 months when i retire in 18 months time the only obstacle is my medication and how would it work with my getting enbrel injections and it is a long flight - is there a solution around this problem
About 9 months after I was in a car accident, resulting in cervical stenosis and a long course of PT I had severe flares for which I was prescribed prednisone for several months (May, 2007). My rheumatologist was concered about my liver functioning and diagnosed hepatitis c after a blood test. I began treatment for hcv (January, 2008), my flares subsided, however during the latter part of the 6 months of hcv treatment, the flares increased and I was in considerable pain.
My ANA was negative so Lupus was ruled out, even though Lupus can't really be ruled out with one blood test. The rheumatologist I went to had more blood work done and x-rays of my hands and feet called and said everything came back "normal", even when during the examination she said she saw and felt the swelling in my hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles and feet. I meet with her in a few days and can hopefully get a clearer picture of what's wrong.
AROUND THREE YEARS AGO I WAS HAVING FLARE UPS AND MY DOCTOR ALSO ME ON ENBREL, WORKED VERY GOOD FOR THE RA BUT MY NOW MY THROAT IS ALWAYS SORE AND CONGESTED WITH PHELM. THIS YEAR I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS DOCTORS ENT, GENERAL ALERGIST AND EVEN HAD SINUS SURGERY FOR 30 GRAND, NOTHING FIXED THE THROAT PROBLEMS. I SEEM MY RA DOCTOR THE OTHER DAY AND ADVISED HIM I'M GOING TO GET OFF OF THE ENBREL AND SEE IF MY THROAT CONDITION IMPROVES. HE DID NOT THINK THAT WAS THE PROBLEM.
weird, never thought that enbrel would be a cause of hpv. I have developed hpv before starting on enbrel. what connection is there between the two?
I have had moderate to severe RA for 5 years. Take Enbrel once a week and am supposed to take 5mg. injectible of methotrexate weekly. I had gone without the methotrexate for at least six months and have not noticed any difference at all. I am scared to death of the methotrexate. Can anyone explain why my doctor wants me to continue it if it does not seem to make a difference? I do great on the Enbrel by itself, but am sure there are reasons, I just don't understand!

t mean to frighten Enbrel users. For many ppl Enbrel is a wonderful medication that causes no serious side effects and brings great benefits. There are many testimonies that support it's effectiveness. However with any drug, (even Aspirin) that doesn't apply to 100% of the ppl. No one should discontinue any medication without first consulting their physician.
I am hopeful your Rheumatologist will listen to your concerns and address them.
Every single medication comes with some very scary risks,I know exactly what you are going through and tried every natural cure I read about, my disease was too severe for any of them to work. The Enbrel has helped me tremendously, I did not want to take it either at first and it took about a year for me to realize I was getting worse and life was passing me by, I missed out on too many things because I was always in too much pain and too tired/fatigued to have a life.
