Hi i Just wanted to know how accurate is ELISA third generation tests is, my last sex was at 04/11/2010 i did the first test on 22/1/2011 the result wasELISA : HIV1&HIV2 NEGATIVE (0.15) i started to get worried of the number so i did a second test on 15/2/2011 just to make sure that i completed 3 monthes and the rsult came ELISA : HIV1&HIV2 NEGATIVE (0.33) i freeked out why that number is keeping rising !!

Do you suggest another test to definitely rule the Elisa as a false positive and not a positive due to seroconverting?

Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..

There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.

how accurate is a negative elisa test 3 weeks post risky exposure for a woman (unprotected sex) with a hiv positive man? my doctor says its 100% accurate, is this true....

My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).

hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.

with refer to no.1. it seems HIV antigen (for ELISA test) could withstand for long period after taken out from human body? In addition, may I know what should do and dont's before blood sampling for ELISA test for HIV? e.g. fasting, take medicine, smoking, sufficient sleep, no fever etc....

elisa test is an extremely accurate test. Its window period is 3 months after the last exposure. A negative result, which is given by taking this test 3 months after an exposure, is fully conclusive.

elisa will detect antibody in blood as long the test was done after 3 month post exposure.. after 13 years??

2) The clinic told me the test I had done (the one I am going mark as the conclusive test) was a Unigold 3rd Generation, 5th generation elisa - would this be an advanced enough test for this to be negative? It is also worth of mention I had the Labcorp DNA PCR test done 20 days outside of exposure. I went the 12 weeks, because Teak and others on this board recommend it.
