effexor xr vs wellbutrin xl

I am trying to come off my meds (wellbutrin xl 150 and effexor xr 75) as I would like to become pregnant this year. All my Dr.s say I need to come off the meds. My DR. has me taking my wellbutrin 150 mg once every 3 days and had me take 1 37.5 mg of the effexor for 5 days and no more effexor just wellbutrin. I am feeling tired, nausea and headaches I asume due to no effexor. Should I have been prescribed the effexor diffrently?

Within the last 2 weeks I started tappering off of 75mg Effexor XR, stopped taking my birth control pills, started Metformin for insulin resistance and 150mg Wellbutrin XL. I am doing all of this because my husband and I are trying to have our first child. I suppose it would be best to add that I have taken Effexor XR on and off for the last 5 years, went up and down from 75 to 150. I have a love/hate relationship with this medication.

This 2nd doctor looked it up, and said there was little difference in the cost, and would I like to go back on Effexor XL? I said yes. That was a year ago, and I am still on 150mg Effexor XL. I feel really well. All my anxieties and panics have gone, along with the depression. I know not everybody gets the same benefit as me from Effexor. I also do not know if there is much difference in the original, and the generic form. I may have felt just as well on the generic.

t take long for my doc to confirm my ADD-PI and he prescribed Aderral 10 mg to take once a day along with Wellbutrin XL 150. He said I might need a higher dose or switch to the XR later. Has anyone tried both at the same time? I got the generic version of Aderral and surprised how cheap it was. Should this be taken every day or only when I have lots to do and need to concentrate? Thanks!!

My experience was a little rough coming off the effexor, nothing physcial, just mental and I had also been on it quite sometime. If you are replacing it with the wellbutrin you may not experience the withdrawal symptoms. Do you know why the doctor wanted you to switch? The main problem I had was flu like symptoms.

Hi, I live in England and my doctor gave me no choice but put me on to generic Venlafaxine. Now reading Hensley's reply, I am worried it will not help me. I was told it was exactly the same as Effexor XR. I was on Effexor XL before. I don't know what the difference is. Hensley knows so much about drugs. I know nothing, just trust my doctor to put me on one he thinks will help me. Didn't know I could ask him to put me on the proper drug not the generic.

I started taking my wellbutrin XR 2 days ago for severe depression again. Haven't had to take it for a long while now. Cannot remember how long it takes. I wish it worked in a day. I ned relief of this. I have lost 7 lbs in a week, cannot eat, do not want to eat, do not want to do nothing. Just want to lay and sleep...... Does anyone know how fast I should feel some relief and feel a little better. It is like I am blank and don't know what to think about.

Right you are that (at least chemically speaking) Effexor XR and Pristiq are 99% the same drug. I also tried a switch from Effexor to Pristiq. I had 4 good years on Effexor at 300Mgs a day before it stopped working at which point Pristiq was chosen. I took 100MGs a day of Pristiq becuase I am medication resistant. Pristiq was horrible. Next to Cymbalta the worst SNRI I had ever taken. Even after months on the medication it only covered maybe 20% of my symptoms.

I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.

I have been on Wellbutrin (450mg) and Effexor (300mg) for at least a couple of years now. I was on the Effexor and then teh Wellbutrin was added. I had a mild improvement for awhile and then nothing. My doctor then added Abilify. Unfortunately that also was ineffective. I'mat a point now where I will try another path,. Over the years I have been on many different medications with no long term success. Celexa, Zoloft, Lexapro, Cymbalta and I am sure others I can't recall.

I have been on Effexor XR 150 mg for 4 years and due to the cost and effect on my libido, I have started withdrawal, first tapered to 75 mg for 30 days, now on 37.5 for 15 days, then everyother day, and to continue till I'm done. Well in talking to my pharmacist she said she has seen violent reactions when people stop suddenly. My mood swings are terrible and I'm suprised my husband hasn't locked me up. I get angry, moody, incredibally sad.

I have tried weaning off the effexor XR a couple times and have gone into Panic Attack mode when I do. I only will get a panic attack maybe 2-3x a year, so I know that the medicine has helped (for 6 years), but I have to say that it definetly has decreased my sexual relationship with my husband (I have heard this is a common side effect). I have heard that lexapro or wellbutrin do not do this.

I didn't take Effexor XL, but I did take Effexor XR. I experienced side effects while I was on it and withdrawal symptoms that lasted for 6 months. My side effects/withdrawal symptoms included: brain zaps, extreme sweating, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, major headaches, nervousness, vertigo, and confusion. When I started taking it, I lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks! I was wanting to lose weight, but in a healthy way. My advice to you is get off of it asap.

I can comment on this. I was on 75 mg of Effexor XR and 200 mg of Wellbutrin. BUT, I stopped the FX 75. I was taken off gradually and I can tell you it is NOT a fun ride at ALL. First, I would not suggest the FX/WB combo. If you have anxiety, I would get off the FX(But do not do this at all without your Dr) and add in Buspar. I am on a WB/Buspar combo and it works well.(I think anyways since I am still having sime residual w/d from the Effexor) Get off that FX.

I have to stop taking Effexor XR 300 mg, Wellbutrin XL 300 mg, Lamactil 200 mg cause of unable to afford medication. unemployed, but makes too much for mental health help. Are my withdrawal symptoms going to be worse with me having to stop all 3 of these at the same time ?

There really is nothing that needs being done about it. It's no secret that SNRI drugs such as Effexor, Pristiq, and Cymbalta do have a higher risk of what is called Discontinuation Syndrome. SSRI's can also be nasty buggers to discontinue. Paxil being one of many. I hear a lot of people complain about antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome, but I never hear then speak of the flip side. I used to take Effexor XR at 300Mgs a day for about 4 years.

I'm taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg. I have been told that it is a wimpy drug and that I sither need to up the dosage or find a stronger anti-depressant. What about effexor?

I have taken wellbutrin XL 150 for about four years, but recently it stopped helping. My doctor added effexor XR 75 and trazodone 50mg to try to settle my horrible anxiety and pick me up from the dark depression I started experiencing about 2 months ago. Two weeks ago I was hospitalized for medication adjustment. I was awesome (except for jitters and high pulse rate 102-140 daily) until 3 days ago I started having anxiety every morning and cry all day for no good reason.

I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.

You may not need anything but the Wellbutrin to be honest with you. I have OCD which leads to anxiety and then to depression. I was on Prozac many years ago and I tried those other drugs over the past year when it reared its ugly head again but I choose Wellbutrin. I was initially on 150 XL like you but I needed a boost when my OCD kicked into overdrive so I went to 300 XL. It did make me more jittery at first but after about 4-6 weeks, it went away and I feel GREAT!

agreed, and we started the tapering process. Down to 37.5 of Effexor XR while starting 200 mg of Wellbutrin. Well, no problems at the 37.5. I was on that for a week. Then, I stopped the Effexor altogether last Thursday. So it has been 4 days. Still on Wellbutrin 200 mg. OMG, when the heck are these w/d symptoms going to subside?? I am so dizzy, nauseaus, and I keep getting this "click click" in my ears all the time, lips tingling..
