effexor xr quitting

I am a 32 year-old male living in Houston. I am presently being treated for depression/anxiety with Effexor XR. My dose is presently 75 mg, & I am presently slowly working up to a 150 mg dose, per instruction from my Doc. My question is "Will Effexor XR have effects on my balance & coordination?" I am trying to learn a few different martial arts, and I am worried about this possible effect. I have already noticed increased sweating & appetite loss.

I have never been a drug user but, this feels like what I would imagine that a addict would feel going through withdrawls. I did read some blogs on people quitting effexor but I had NO IDEA that it would be this bad. My doctor said I would have to tough it out but when you are prescribed you should be informed of the risks. Doctors should only prescribe this drug to people that are really, really depressed. I wish I never would have taken it.

I am on day two of quitting effexor xr 150 mg cold turkey and i feel like im going insane, i am feeling very dizzy, tired all the time, seeing shadowy things for a second and then they dissappear, irrattic behaviour and insecurity and feeling depressed in terms of anxiety and thinking what am i going to do if...... this happened or that. scared of being alone . and headaches all the time. i dont want to go back on effexor as my friends told me all this bad stuff about it and what it does to you.

I have been taking Effexor XR 450mg and Buproprion 450mg for a couple of years. I'm weaning off the Effexor, going onto Pristiq and continuing the Buproprion.

ive gained at least 100 lbs health going down because of effexor xr i would never recommend this ****! i tried going off cold turkey didnt work so well . bad side ffects such as virtigo achey crying for no reason night sweats and night mares! now that ive went from 75 mg to 37.5 i feel great back to normal yay! i got on it only because i was dealing with my father dying of brain cancer felt very anxius and worried .he passed away two years ago! depression never really affected me!

What is the difference between Effexor and Effexor XR? Are the dosages usually the same for both meds?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and i think i'm going to be around quite a bit over the coming weeks as i've begun to decrease my dosage of Effexor XR 150mg's once daily down to 75mg's once daily. I'v been on effexor for 12 months, lexapro 20mg's for 4 months previous to that. I'm already beginning to feel the effects of withdrawals. I knew they were coming though. I was on zoloft years ago, 2006, for 18months, and coming off that wasn't too bad for me.

Hi, I live in England and my doctor gave me no choice but put me on to generic Venlafaxine. Now reading Hensley's reply, I am worried it will not help me. I was told it was exactly the same as Effexor XR. I was on Effexor XL before. I don't know what the difference is. Hensley knows so much about drugs. I know nothing, just trust my doctor to put me on one he thinks will help me. Didn't know I could ask him to put me on the proper drug not the generic.

I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.

I have been on Effexor XR for about 8 months now. I started with effexor xr 37.5 mg, then one week later up to 75 mg, then 150mg. About a month ago, when it seemed to have stopped working, my doctor increased it to 225 mg, but it totally messed me up. I went back on the 150 mg and after a few weeks decided that this medication was just not working for me.

i've been taking Effexor XR for almost 2 years now with 150mg a day. It's been fabulous and has always manage to control my anxiety and depression. On Monday 25 i came down with a fever and started to get really sick. On Wed 27th i was prescribed Rulide, and I took it asap. By Friday morning i was suffering from bad anxiety attacks in the morning, weird and just disturbing dreams in the morning, and a sense of low self worth and depression.

I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??

My daughter has been on Effexor XR 150 MG for about a year. She recently found out that her insurance would not pay for this medicine. Her Dr. put her on Zoloft without wheening her off of the Effexor XR. She is experience symptoms that include feeling very dizzy and nausea. Is this Dr. correct prescribing her this new medicine without slowly wheening her off of the Effexor XR. Are these symptoms due to her going "Cold Turkey" with the Effexor XR? Please advised.

One option (if your Effexor is failing) is to add Eskalith 450 to the Effexor XR. Adding Eskalith gives Effexor more punch and may give you another couple years from Effexor. I did this and I was able to squeze another 2 years from Effexor at the same 300MG a day dosage that was failing prior to that. Just some ideas to talk to you doc about.

I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.

has anyone made it thru the effexor xr withdrawals with success, if so please give detalis on how you did it, i will be starting to taper off of it soon, i really would like to stay off of this drug once im completely off of it,----i know everyone is different but theres got to be some info on how to do this------

My dr gave me samples of generic effexor xr the other day to try, over the weekend i took them and had the most awful headaches...Im so afraid to take them now..Ayone heard anything about these?

s was put on antidepressants to cope with severe mood swings , anxiety, etc. I have found that effexor xr to be helpful to calm me from outburst of anger but I stay at a too layed back level, no emotion I don't cry as often but never laugh etc. I have researched ADD and wonder if I have ADD. The symptoms are so similar. I think I will ask my Doctor to try me on some of the meds to see if I can see a difference but am afraid because i have high blood pressure.

25) 3 times a day for about a week and continued taking one every night for a month while taking Effexor Xr. I stopped taking xanax the day I stopped taking Effexor. I gradually stopped taking Effexor by winning off of it but I didn't with xanax. Is that a problem? In other words, shoud I have taken xanax every other day just like I had with Effexor? Thank you.

m wondering if maybe Effexor XR is too strong for me and maybe just the regular Effexor would be more suitable? I like the fact that I'm wired and on task all day, but the headaches aren't fun. My therapist says that if cutting my dose down on the Effexor XR resolves the headaches then she has to take me off of it altogether. Do you have any insight on this med, or perhaps suggest something else. I am afraid of staring a med that makes me feel lethargic, I have to be on task.

I am supposed to start taking pristiq 50mg. along with effexor xr 75mg for a week and then effexor xr 37.5mg along with the pristiq for a week, and then just pristiq. I am afraid, seeing how just being off effexor for 7 hrs. put me in E.R. The Doctor said pristiq won't do that if I miss or am late on a dose. He better be right.

so Effexor is kind of like a mild stimulant like Wellbutrin cause I was kinda thinking about try that.
