You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. I am been taking 300 mg of Effexor XR for approximately two years continuously. I now must stop cold turkey for I recently lost my prescription coverage insurance. I know the symptoms but have never stopped taking without being "weened" of the med. Are there any other symptoms that might be more serious that I should be aware? Is it true that withdrawing from Effexor can be life threating?

I got back on regular effexor and began to feel positive effects but not totally. I switched to XR Effexor and it worked better. But still not full remission. I started th regular effexor 13 weeks ago and have been on the EFFEXOR XR for 2 weeks. But I still don't feel like myself. I feel better but not consistantly good. I feel best in the PM. Mornings are the worst part of my day. I take 1 150mg dose at 9PM. Should I ask the doctor to increase my dosage to 300mg.

Comming of of Effexor,,Effexor XR needs to be done slowly,,I myself just stopped and had symptoms for a little over a weak,,the dizziness,,this wierd buzzing in my head all the time,,,just really wierd things happening. My wife is currently on effexor XR, she's been on it for around 2 years or longer. Can someone tell me if they ever got off of it and how they got it done. I remember when she first started taking it, one of her sx's was the strange dreams. She tried to get off cold turkey and she started having even stranger dreams, she couldn't get off. Hi, I live in England and my doctor gave me no choice but put me on to generic Venlafaxine. Now reading Hensley's reply, I am worried it will not help me. I was told it was exactly the same as Effexor XR. I was on Effexor XL before. I don't know what the difference is. Hensley knows so much about drugs. i've been taking Effexor XR for almost 2 years now with 150mg a day. It's been fabulous and has always manage to control my anxiety and depression. On Monday 25 i came down with a fever and started to get really sick. On Wed 27th i was prescribed Rulide, and I took it asap. By Friday morning i was suffering from bad anxiety attacks in the morning, weird and just disturbing dreams in the morning, and a sense of low self worth and depression.

I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. My daughter has been on Effexor XR 150 MG for about a year. She recently found out that her insurance would not pay for this medicine. Her Dr. put her on Zoloft without wheening her off of the Effexor XR. She is experience symptoms that include feeling very dizzy and nausea.
