While there is a generic extended release version of venlafaxine available, it is not exactly the same as the brand name (Because of the patent). You also need to check if Generic Effexor XR is avalible in your area of the world. I heard that the patent was up and this means that it should be avalible in a generic formula that is the same as Effexor XR. If not then you doctor should have no problem writing you a script for the name brand Effexor XR. Just call him and say "hello doc, thatks for the generic Venlafaxine, but I prefer name brand Effexor XR." He should have no problem with this at all.

I tried Pristiq in an attempt to help with menopausal symptoms. I was (and am) on Effexor XR, and Pristiq is almost identical to Effexor XR. I think the only difference is in their molecules. Hi, I have GAD and took lexapro and generic lexapro for almost 9 years before it stopped working for me. My doc put me on effexor xr on May 5 and I feel as though my anxiety has gotten worse. She has recommended we double the dose to 150 mgs . I am looking for advice as to whether I should continue on this path. I want so much for this to work ! Any thoughts? Thank you so much! As Leftcoast said Effexor and Pristiq are 99% the exact same medication with a slightly different release mechinism. In fact the molecular structure of the two drugs is almost identical. BUT, that does not supprise me that you still got Effexor withdrawls during the switch. Our brains and bodys can sense even the slightest variation with drugs.

I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.

I've been on Pristiq. My GP gave it to me. I've been on it for about 6 months and it's fine for me. It's most effective dose is 50mg, which is equivalant to 150mg Effexor XR I was told. My psychiatrist switched me to Effexor because he says they are the same and I am tapering off. I did NOT gain weight on Pristiq and I think the sexual side effects weren't as bad. I can tell the difference on Effexor.

My doctor prescribed me Effexor XR and I got my prescription filled but before taking it I decided to do some research about this drug. The withdral and side affects scared me so I decided agains this drug. Then doctor priscribed me Citalopram and I've been taking it since. I have been taking citalopram 20mg a day for about 3 months. Pristiq is kind of a funny SNRI. Remember it was released just before Effexor XR ended it's 7 year patent protection. Effexor and Pristiq are 99% the same drug in terms of active chemical. Watch out for "CR", "XR" and "SR" versions of meds. As far as I know, only Wellbutrin "CR" and Effexor "XR" are superior than the originals. I was taking 6mg's of Klonopin/day for many years before swiching to Xanax, also 6mg's/day. I suffer severe anxiety, and although the K-pins were O.K., they took too long to work and didn't stop panic attacks.

That basically is one reason why I do not want to take it. It also doesnt say on the pristiq website that is treats anxiety and/or panic disorder as it does on the Effexor XR website because the FDA has not even aproved it yet for this.

I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.

i've been taking Effexor XR for almost 2 years now with 150mg a day. It's been fabulous and has always manage to control my anxiety and depression. On Monday 25 i came down with a fever and started to get really sick. On Wed 27th i was prescribed Rulide, and I took it asap. By Friday morning i was suffering from bad anxiety attacks in the morning, weird and just disturbing dreams in the morning, and a sense of low self worth and depression.

I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??

My daughter has been on Effexor XR 150 MG for about a year. She recently found out that her insurance would not pay for this medicine. Her Dr. put her on Zoloft without wheening her off of the Effexor XR. She is experience symptoms that include feeling very dizzy and nausea. Is this Dr. correct prescribing her this new medicine without slowly wheening her off of the Effexor XR. Are these symptoms due to her going "Cold Turkey" with the Effexor XR? Please advised.

One option (if your Effexor is failing) is to add Eskalith 450 to the Effexor XR. Adding Eskalith gives Effexor more punch and may give you another couple years from Effexor. I did this and I was able to squeze another 2 years from Effexor at the same 300MG a day dosage that was failing prior to that. Just some ideas to talk to you doc about.

has anyone made it thru the effexor xr withdrawals with success, if so please give detalis on how you did it, i will be starting to taper off of it soon, i really would like to stay off of this drug once im completely off of it,----i know everyone is different but theres got to be some info on how to do this------

m wondering if maybe Effexor XR is too strong for me and maybe just the regular Effexor would be more suitable? I like the fact that I'm wired and on task all day, but the headaches aren't fun. My therapist says that if cutting my dose down on the Effexor XR resolves the headaches then she has to take me off of it altogether. Do you have any insight on this med, or perhaps suggest something else. I am afraid of staring a med that makes me feel lethargic, I have to be on task.

I am supposed to start taking pristiq 50mg. along with effexor xr 75mg for a week and then effexor xr 37.5mg along with the pristiq for a week, and then just pristiq. I am afraid, seeing how just being off effexor for 7 hrs. put me in E.R. The Doctor said pristiq won't do that if I miss or am late on a dose. He better be right.

so Effexor is kind of like a mild stimulant like Wellbutrin cause I was kinda thinking about try that.

Has anyone tried the generic for of the regular effexor. My insurance is way more the effexor xr. The regular effexor has a generic.

Information is there about Effexor XR. I found a pdf on a warning letter. This may not mean anything to you but it tells me that Wyeth tryed to pass this med off as a good medication and now those of us that are on it are having a hell of a time getting off of it.

I got back on regular effexor and began to feel positive effects but not totally. I switched to XR Effexor and it worked better. But still not full remission. I started th regular effexor 13 weeks ago and have been on the EFFEXOR XR for 2 weeks. But I still don't feel like myself. I feel better but not consistantly good. I feel best in the PM. Mornings are the worst part of my day. I take 1 150mg dose at 9PM. Should I ask the doctor to increase my dosage to 300mg.
