Effexor withdrawal time frame

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal time frame

effexor

Avatar n tn 6 weeks is a good time frame to see if a med works but if you are not compatible for it and it is causing these kinds of problems, it might be better to find another medication. Have you taken any others over the years? Best thing to do is to confer with your doctor. They may want you to stick it out for the full trial period of 6 weeks, may play with the dose a bit to help you out or they may decide to go a different route. But they need to know what is happening. Hang in there!
1110049 tn?1409402144 You must be really ready to give up taking Effexor. If you want to be like me and have no withdrawal side effects, then you must take it really slowly. You will need your doctor's help with this. Make sure you are really fit. I eat very sensibly and take supplements, which I believe have helped a lot. I walk a lot so my body is very fit. I have put on weight whilst taking Effexor, so the exercise and sensible eating have stopped me putting on any more weight.
Avatar n tn I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar m tn How long does Effexor XR withdrawal last? I understand the time frame will be different for everyone, but I'm assuming there is a general window that most people fall into? A few weeks? Months?? Some background: I've only been on anti-depressants for four months. I was first put on Zoloft while I was inpatient for an eating disorder, but it didn't seem to do anything. Two months ago I was switched to Effexor 150mg/day, as well as Neurontin 900mg/day.
Avatar m tn Get back on a small dose now!! Get a new doctor if you can. At this time for a Effexor withdrawal is so well known that it is criminal your doctor doesn't know about it. You will need the above mentioned things to help you withdrawal. So very sorry you are going though this hell. So many have suffered at the mercy of Effexor.
Avatar n tn I had EVERY withdrawal symptom that you mentioned and more and it seemed to get worse each day until about the 3 week mark and then it started to get better. I believe the time frame can vary from individual to individual, but a doctor can prescribe something to help take the edge off of the symptoms if you are able to get to one. If you have no health coverage, remember that you can go to the E.R.
Avatar m tn Anyway, yes there is a way to get off Effexor without most if not all the withdrawal issues. The most effective way was to take to Effexor back up to a dose the did not give them the withdrawal side effects, that ADD 20mg of Prozac to the mix for 4 weeks. then and only then we would start slowly step down off of the Effexor 37.5mg a week until off. Then after one month more cut Prozac back to 10mg for two more weeks then go completely dry.
611559 tn?1233776445 After some time, I felt that I was doing well mentally, and I discontinued one of my Effexor pills per day. That was about 1 year ago. About two and 1/2 weeks ago, after attempting to lose weight unsuccessfully for months, I dropped to 75 mg. per day for about 3 days and then stopped taking Effexor completely. [I realize the stupidity of doing this without a doctor's supervision. However the Dr.
Avatar n tn I have taken Effexor for two years. During this time, I have missed a dose up to two days without side effects. Three days ago I stopped Effexor and started Wellbutrin. Within an hour I had slight symptoms that have not ceased: vertigo, headache, nausea, and general weakness. iOn this third day, off Effexor and on Wellbutrin, I have crying jags and unexpected significant irritability. My pharmacist and doctor's nurse do not have an answer so I turn to those who have used these drugs.
Avatar f tn I spoke with my doctor and tapered off the dosage of effexor and started on Prozac to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I took my last 1/4 pill of 37.5 effexor 1 week ago. I have been so sick, unable to eat, drink, crying, phobic, scared, nauseated and unable to function. I am really worried about my job as I have been emotional there and unable to do my job properly. Yesturday I felt that I just couldn't get through it, drove to work but don't know how I did it.
Avatar f tn It may be that you need an anti-depressant. I wasn't aware that the withdrawal could go on for so long, but it could be. I went off Effexor very gradually over many months. I had none of the withdrawal symptoms, but then I could not stop crying for a month. It was clear that I needed the Effexor. If you have had depression for awhile before you first went on the Effexor, you probably do need an anti-depressant.
20290546 tn?1494336970 I'd like to talk more about my Effexor withdrawal. It's been over a month and the physical withdrawal is gone, however the feeling that I thought I had for just a few days is gone as well. I feel horrible. I feel worse than I did before I went on Effexor almost 5 years ago. I have been reading and searching for anything that will make how I'm feeling mentally go away. Bad news is that even people who were at 37.5 to over 300mg which is where I was, go through the same thing.
4250427 tn?1351716367 You were on a large dose, and it will take quite a time to get it out of your system. If you have read other posts about withdrawal from Effexor, you will see that it is difficult. You could go back and see the doctor about this, or sit it out, and wait to feel better. Some people say it takes quite a time, but in my case, I was on 150mg daily, and did withdraw at once. I had never heard about all the withdrawal symptoms, and in my case I was feeling better after a couple of weeks.
Avatar f tn Now since doing some research on the internet, I am wondering if he is experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the sudden onset and discontinuation of Effexor and Depakote, and maybe even serotonin syndrome from taking the Prozac with the Depakote? Please advise. Any information from another psychiatric professional would be extremely helpful!
Avatar n tn I was on the regular effexor, and I would not reccommend it to anyone else. Severe side effects and disturbing withdrawal effects if you don't take it at the same time each day, or worse, miss a day. The withdrawal effects render you almost non-functional. Effexor ER would be much more manageable and less likely to interfere in your life. Better yet, ask the dr. for a different anti-depressant. There are many more that are just as effective, or more effective.
Avatar f tn I have never written in a forum before, but have been reading these for awhile now, especially since trying to get off Effexor XR. I have been on Effexor XR 225 milligrams for about 6 years after an extremely difficult 6 months at the time resulting in major depression and anxiety with panic attacks. To me, Effexor XR with an occasional alprazolam 0.25 milligrams (Xanax) had been the miracle drugs and saved my life. I take my medication every morning anywhere between 8 and 10 a.m.
Avatar m tn t think Prozac is In the same group as Effexor. Effexor is a SNRI, what group is Prozac in ? My doctor changed me from Effexor to citalopram to dolsulipin that was in a different group and works on a different part of the brain. That means that you go into cold turkey. When we come off too quickly like the doctors tell us to switch your brain chemistry is altered. These tablets are fat soluable so stick to fat and muscle in your body and build up depending on how many years you were on them.
Avatar n tn Yes, they sound like pretty classic withdrawal symptoms. After a short time you might want to try a liver cleanse to get your system going again. You also might want to try a traditional Chinese formula called Fu Zhen from Herbalist and Alchemist. It helps rejuvenate a weakened system, such as from chemotherapy, radiation treatment, surgery, and such. Which is something like quitting one of these drugs.
Avatar m tn Personally, when I decide to get off Effexor again (this is the 3rd time I have taken Effexor), I will be under a doctors supervision. Withdrawal can be brutal if not tapered correctly and it takes several weeks of tapering. I would think you will still have some side effects but done over a long period of time they may not be too bad. Good luck to you.
1128565 tn?1316721143 Effexor withdrawal is terrible and they should have tapered you down prior to switching. Geez...doctors! I tapered down and am now taking a low dose of prozac until I stop. My goal is to get off them all together to get pregnant, but I think even if you're switching, you should lower the Effexor first.
Avatar m tn On the other, it might throw you back into an earlier state of withdrawal, since if it works it will increase the efficiency of your serotonin production system at a time when you're serotonin receptors are reawakening after not being needed while you were on Effexor, and that's part of what's causing your withdrawal (since Effexor also works on norepinephrine, it's more complicated than just an ssri).
Avatar n tn I am only on day 3 of being totally weaned from Effexor, and experiencing them so often cannot operate vehicle or use computer for more than few minutes at time. Totally awful withdrawal process.
Avatar n tn i was on effexor for 12 yrs. tried coming off it cold turkey a few times but always relapsed on day 2 or 3. this time, i'm pregnant and i have to do it some how. its a very dangerous med for babies. anyway, i read about 'prozac bridging' technique. told my psych doc who actually thinks withdrawal effects don't exist and its all in my head.
