Effexor withdrawal syndrome

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal syndrome

effexor

492527 tn?1212175672 While two weeks on Zoloft should have provided a glimmer of positive change, you should probably give it more time-- 4-6 weeks before judging whether or not it is helpful. Your body may adapt over that time to tolerate it better so you are not as tired.
Avatar n tn My dr. put me on 50 miligrams of tramadol and 37.5 miligrams of effexor my question is this, is it likely or will i get serotonin syndrome from taking these 2 meds together? Please answer as I have stopped taking both of them because i am scared out of my head!!
Avatar f tn The withdrawal from this drug can be horrendous, and some of what you describe -- the jolts and the sleeplessness -- are very common withdrawal symptoms that so many people have suffered without any notion of serotonin syndrome, which is very uncommon. Withdrawals from this drug can last a long time, which is why absent the serotonin syndrome issue it's just a bad idea to go off this drug abruptly. I would recommend getting a second opinion on the serotonin syndrome.
Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
603543 tn?1255294450 Anyone know anything about withdrawal syndrome? I think my mom has it and the drs arent being any help. My mom was takin g350mg of effexor xr a day for like 4 years, the the dr told her to just stop cold turkey and presribed another antidepressant at a low dose, I stated that this should nto be done.
Avatar f tn Now since doing some research on the internet, I am wondering if he is experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the sudden onset and discontinuation of Effexor and Depakote, and maybe even serotonin syndrome from taking the Prozac with the Depakote? Please advise. Any information from another psychiatric professional would be extremely helpful!
Avatar m tn Google Venlafaxine Withdrawal Syndrome. You may be lucky and not have a severe reaction to continuing to decrease the dose. All the best.
Avatar m tn t think Prozac is In the same group as Effexor. Effexor is a SNRI, what group is Prozac in ? My doctor changed me from Effexor to citalopram to dolsulipin that was in a different group and works on a different part of the brain. That means that you go into cold turkey. When we come off too quickly like the doctors tell us to switch your brain chemistry is altered. These tablets are fat soluable so stick to fat and muscle in your body and build up depending on how many years you were on them.
Avatar f tn How do I find a neurologist who is educated in Effexor withdrawal? I have a mild seizure disorder, my Mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, and I am "addicted" to Effexor, which I have taken for 10 years and cannot seem to break free from. Put that all together and I feel as though my worsening memory issues spell our DEMENTIA in big, bold letters. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks...
Avatar f tn re suffering is a protracted withdrawal. Look on the internet for the term PAWS, or Protracted Withdrawal Syndrome, print out what you find, and present it to your psychiatrist. Here are your choices: sometimes, people have success switching you over to Prozac and then weaning you off Prozac, because it's thought to be easier to stop taking Prozac than shorter half-life antidepressants.
20290546 tn?1494336970 I'd like to talk more about my Effexor withdrawal. It's been over a month and the physical withdrawal is gone, however the feeling that I thought I had for just a few days is gone as well. I feel horrible. I feel worse than I did before I went on Effexor almost 5 years ago. I have been reading and searching for anything that will make how I'm feeling mentally go away. Bad news is that even people who were at 37.5 to over 300mg which is where I was, go through the same thing.
Avatar m tn How long does Effexor XR withdrawal last? I understand the time frame will be different for everyone, but I'm assuming there is a general window that most people fall into? A few weeks? Months?? Some background: I've only been on anti-depressants for four months. I was first put on Zoloft while I was inpatient for an eating disorder, but it didn't seem to do anything. Two months ago I was switched to Effexor 150mg/day, as well as Neurontin 900mg/day.
Avatar m tn It is possible that while on the effexor you developed an anxiety disorder whose effects were masked or minimized by the effexor. Once off the effexor, the symptoms of the anxiety disorder were allowed to materialize. The so-called "enhanced" serotogenic activity of the effexor may have easily contributed to this new anxiety disorder. It is also possible that nicotinic and/or muscarinic acetylcholine receptor function was modified (semi-permanently).
Avatar m tn You can thank the FDA and the multi billion dollar pharmaceutical industry. The withdrawal syndrome and the recall of meds that have only been around a short time, are likely just the tip of the iceberg. As far as effexor, I ran out for a few days (had been on 150mg for a few years) and thought I was losing my mind. From what I've observed, a tapering schedule needs to be VERY gradual, more so than what many are instructed to use.
Avatar n tn I took Effexor/venlafaxine for three years (Aug. 2002-Aug. 2005). In 2004, the FDA sent out a warning letter to psychiatrists about the "discontinuation syndrome" (i.e. physical addiction) caused by this drug. I went off the drug at my request when I found the FDA warning letter doing research on the drug on my own-- having spent my life addicted to nothing more than tobacco, I did not want to be addicted to any other substance. (Thank you, psychiatrist!
Avatar f tn now as i sit here on my 4th day of effexor withdrawal im left with racing thoughts, crippling physical effects and no one to turn to. ever since i was a young child i've dealt with depression and anxiety. it wasnt until i was in junior high that my parents decided to try therapy and medication for me. it took me several different doctors until i finally found one that truly felt had helped me.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar f tn I went to the ER and they ran a gambit of tests and said everything looked ok. Could I just now be going through withdrawal from the Effexor? If so, how long will this last? It is really affecting my life/career. I don't want to leave the house I feel so ill. Please someone let me know what they think could be going on. Thank you.
1128565 tn?1316721143 Hello and welcome! Well, unfortunately, you're dealing with a double (or triple) whammy here. For one, Effexor is one of the tougher antidepressants to come off, even with a supervised taper. To stop taking ANY of these meds cold turkey is just an awful idea, and will make the discontinuation syndrome (aka "withdrawal") MUCH much worse. How long has it been since you last took the Effexor?
262802 tn?1303944876 Fish oil is said to help, but you have a lot of withdrawal symptoms. Assuming you tapered off very slowly and not on some preordained schedule instead of one designed just for how you reacted, it might be time to take a week off and hope this passes if you don't want to go back on the med and try a slower taper.
Avatar m tn If it is Effexor withdrawal, what could a neurologist do about it? And if the psychatrist is right, what else could it be?
Avatar m tn These withdrawal symptoms are known as antidepressant discontinuation syndrome. Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome is especially common when you stop taking Paxil or Zoloft. However, all medications for depression can cause withdrawal symptoms." I am one of the unfortunate ones who take zoloft, so it especially requires a taper. Today, I suffered a set back and a kind of emotional breakdown. I was crying and had scary thoughts.
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin (buproprion) is a relatively weak antidepressant and has a low rate of withdrawal syndrome compared to the SSRIs and SNRIs such as Paxil, Effexor, or Cymbalta.
Avatar m tn I've been taking Lexapro 20mg for a few years now and recently it's stopped working so I've been switched to Zoloft. I'm taking 15 mg Lexapro and 25 mg Zoloft and Im decreasing one while increasing the other. I've hear that serotonin syndrome can be caused by taking multiple medicines like this together and am worried.
Avatar m tn I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??
Avatar m tn You suffered withdrawal from missing your Effexor dose. This med should be tapered off of slowly, as should virtually all of these kind of meds. Even tapering slowly you may suffer some withdrawal. It's normal, though uncomfortable. I don't know if there's a generic for Effexor, maybe the doc will know.
