Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal side effects how long

effexor

Avatar n tn Now I am just on the wellbutrin and I am fine, no side-effects at all. Also, the effexor withdrawal symptoms did have nausea, headache, vertigo... as well as other symptoms too for me, so it sounds like it could be effexor withdrawal for you too maybe. Hope the withdrawal symptoms get better soon! I really like wellbutrin, I hope it works well for you too!
Avatar n tn Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible. I have nausea, dizziness, a swoshing feeling when I turn my head from side to side and just feel bad overall. I have been cranky and moody.
Avatar n tn s what will continue to happen. Has anyone had these side effects that are ongoing when you take Prestiq? Also, how do you recommend weaning off the medication. In the past, I had taken Effexor and had to wean off by breaking open the capsule and decreasing the grains. Thanks for any suggestions.
Avatar n tn I have been told that going off of effexor has the 2 worst side effects for this type of med. I really want to get off of them completely. I was tapering off and had to go back up on the dose til i felt better than took lower dose every other day than every 2 days. and so on. that helped. But i want to decrease again and i am nervouse about having the same bad reaction. wish they would tell you this before starting you on the meds to begin with. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I was on Effexor for about 8 years and gained a lot of weight (but it could be some of the other drugs too). Since I got serious about losing weight my psychiatrist suggested we change to Welbutrin. I was on 150mg Efexor and then we changed to 75mg for two weeks, then 37.5 with 150mg of Welbutrin for two weeks and now only Welbutrin 300mg. It's only 3-4 days that I am completely off Effexor and since then I am dizzy as hell.
Avatar n tn Cancer removed May 22, 2007, chemo July 2nd through October 8, 2007, and radiation on left breast November 2nd through December 26, 2008. Side effect from Taxol perminent numb toes, side effects so far from Tamoxifen body temperature changes of warmth then cold. The web page sites and telephone numbers did not have this information.
Avatar m tn I have never had sweating with Effexor, in fact I have no side effects at all. It seems everyone is different and have different nside effects to drugs. I have taken other anti depressants with horrible side effects, but Effexor really suits me.
Avatar n tn During this time, I have missed a dose up to two days without side effects. Three days ago I stopped Effexor and started Wellbutrin. Within an hour I had slight symptoms that have not ceased: vertigo, headache, nausea, and general weakness. iOn this third day, off Effexor and on Wellbutrin, I have crying jags and unexpected significant irritability. My pharmacist and doctor's nurse do not have an answer so I turn to those who have used these drugs.
Avatar m tn Treatment started with 75mg Effexor and I got good result quickly. But the side effects started to mount up, I felt lazy, gained weight and lost interest in activities and sex. We cut back to 37.5 mg, things improved a little, but I want to feel more active again. it has been 18 months. Do I dare request to taper off? Is ther eeven a smaller dose? Would an different drug be an option. I think I am dealing with the flash back issue, but then again I am on Effexor!
Avatar m tn Would be interesting to hear what people has to say about it; side effects, effects, how long you can be on it, the need to up the dosage, etc?
Avatar n tn I was on lexapro for 2 months, for general anxiety and depression then started takin effexor for sexual side effect reasons..The effexor did not cure any of my sexual side effects. My doctor then advised me to stop taking the effexor for a week to see if the sexual side effects got any better which they did. I am now on day 5 of no effexor and i keep having these zaps or sensations running through my body. When will these stop? any help will be great.
Avatar f tn I am very nauseous and have no appetite. My doctor told me this is a temporary side effect. How long does it usually last?
Avatar f tn I was wondering if you were able to stop taking the effexor successfully, & how long did the withdrawal symtoms last? Anybody else reading this please let us all know how you are doing once you are off.
611559 tn?1233776445 I have taken Effexor XR for about 5 years, which followed a course of Paxil. The Paxil was preceded by a course of Zoloft. The anti-depressants were given to me because I have a physical disability with chronic pain, and anxiety that began at the same time as the pain. Anxiety was the worst, but as my life tanked from inability to do many things, the depression grew. Zoloft did not help much; I gained 60 lbs. on Paxil. When switching from Paxil to Effexor, I lost about 20 of the 60lbs.
Avatar n tn Definitely talkto your doctor...it is possible its side effects from going off the meds, I had the terrible side effects from coming off effexor and they told me to wait it out, 6 weeks Ispent in the house, lost my job and everything, finally i put yself back on it and the side effects went away......you might be very sensitive to the pills like me and have to wean off more slowly...how did you wean off?
Avatar f tn How do I find a neurologist who is educated in Effexor withdrawal? I have a mild seizure disorder, my Mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, and I am "addicted" to Effexor, which I have taken for 10 years and cannot seem to break free from. Put that all together and I feel as though my worsening memory issues spell our DEMENTIA in big, bold letters. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks...
Avatar f tn t necessarily have anything at all to do with withdrawal from the old drug, and the recommended protocols are to completely stop the old drug by slowly tapering before beginning a new drug so you can tell the difference between treating withdrawal symptoms and side effects of the new med. This is why I asked if you were doing this with a primary doc or a psychiatrist, because primary docs don't understand much of anything very well since they treat so many different problems.
Avatar m tn I can give you my experiece withdrawing from Effexor. The first time I quit Effexor XR , I did not taper, the doctor switched me to Prozac the next day. I did pretty good,..no real side effects. The second time I went off Effexor w/o being under a doctor's care, I just quit cold turkey...do not try this, it was a really bad experience and I would never do this again. You did not mention how many Mgs. of Effexor you are taking.
Avatar n tn s no one way, but my own research shows that the safest way to do this is to complete your withdrawal off of a drug before starting another so you know which effects are withdrawal and which are start-up side effects of the new drug. Every individual reacts differently to stopping these meds -- for some it's very easy and for others it's nearly impossible, so the safest way is a pace that suits only you, not a generalized one the doc uses for everyone. You aren't everyone.
Avatar m tn Coming off of these medications can have some side effects. How long were you on it and hopefully you did not decide to quit cold turkey...you are doing the right thing by going to see the doctor. Also, remember, many times it can take awhile for your body to get adjusted to the meds sometimes...it also can be a little trial and error before you find the right one for you...keep us posted!
Avatar m tn I am out of options at this point and am willing to take or listen to ANY advice as to how I can better handle this withdrawal. I would like to know how long these symptoms last and if they ever go away. Even when I was being taken off the medication by my phyician lowering the dosage, the brain shivers had been starting. I have read online that the withdrawals take anywhere between days to months to years!
Avatar f tn I have been off Effexor for about 5 months now. I stopped cold-turkey per my doctor's instruction (BIG mistake!). I thought once I was over the initial withdrawal, I would be fine; BUT I only had a couple weeks of feeling o.k. before I started experiencing all sorts of problems. I started with muscle weakness and pain in my calves and stomach pain directly below my rib cage. It then progressed to my arms and now my voice is even weak. Everything is bilateral.
Avatar f tn I have gone from every day to every second day) it is now 6 days since I have had any Efexor and the main side effect I have is really bad dizziness, how long can these side effects last for?
Avatar m tn Different antidepressants react differently on people. For example Effexor stopped my depression, anxiety and panics with no side effects, whereas other anti depressants have not suited me at all. Often we have to try different ones, until we find the one that suits us best. Have you spoken to a doctor about this? I am in my 8th month of withdrawing from Effexor and have felt fine. No side effects at all. The answer is, take it slowly.
Avatar m tn These meds take some time and patience to start noticing improvement and get past any side effects. If the side effects are really bothersome, most definitely discuss it with your doctor, a lot of times he/she will Rx a short term course of an anti-anxiety med, like Xanax or Ativan, to help with the increased anxiety. Try to hang in there...and let us know how you're doing!
