Effexor withdrawal remedies

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal remedies

effexor

Avatar n tn Sounds like The Effexor was doing a pretty good job of controling your anxiety. Why stop if it was helping? Was the drug making you sick? I used to take 375Mgs of Effexor a day for 4 years. (then it stopped woking and I had to switch meds) The withdrawl at that high dosage almost killed me even though I tapered slow. Finnaly when the new antidepressant kicked in my withdrawl faded.
Avatar n tn I knew about the other withdrawal symptoms of effexor XR (irritability, rage, tiredness, ect.) but one thing I have noticed in the last couple days is that I feel really weak. It is all I can do to lift my kids (20 and 35 pounds respectively). I can't tell if I am getting sick or if this is something related to withdrawal. Can you tell me if this is a known symptom?
190673 tn?1259203266 I am weaning off effexor very slowly. But I started to feel depressed. I wanna quit because of sexual side effects. Is it normal to fee llittle depressed during withdrawal?
Avatar f tn I have never written in a forum before, but have been reading these for awhile now, especially since trying to get off Effexor XR. I have been on Effexor XR 225 milligrams for about 6 years after an extremely difficult 6 months at the time resulting in major depression and anxiety with panic attacks. To me, Effexor XR with an occasional alprazolam 0.25 milligrams (Xanax) had been the miracle drugs and saved my life. I take my medication every morning anywhere between 8 and 10 a.m.
Avatar f tn Maybe I am going through withdrawal symptoms too from Effexor too. I was on Effexor and Lyrica. Effexor for depression but also for neuropathy pain in my fee also. It seemed the Lyrica and Effexor combined worked for the pain, I went to a neurologist and he took me off the Lyrica, which made me gain 60lbs! lol... and put me on Zonisamide. It has been great for my pain. But now that aI have been on it awhile I am feeling sick to my stomach every morning and my head feels fuzzy.
Avatar f tn Typical advice is no on this one. Tramadol is only not an opiate on paper. That's why they can give it like candy. it has an effexor like anti depressant in it too. So it can be lethal to get off high doses. In other words don't play with Tramadol it's dangerous. Like I said this is typical advice. I have not tried it personally. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I've been off Effexor for 4 weeks today!!!! The withdrawal symptoms are all but gone for me, except migraines and vertigo. My PCP said it could be up to three months before all the symptoms are gone.
Avatar m tn This is way too short a withdrawal schedule from Effexor if you want to minimize the chances of withdrawal. Your doctor apparently believes the Zoloft will somehow make withdrawal off Effexor go away, and it might, but it also might not. It would be safer to taper off the Effexor as slowly as you needed to so you avoid more problems than you already have. When you've done that, you can try the Zoloft.
Avatar n tn IBS can be dealt with through dietary changes and modalities such as meditation and the use of many natural remedies. Effexor for IBS is adding a problem, not trying to solve one. You say doctors tell you that you have anxiety, but when one has anxiety one knows it. If you don't feel anxious, don't take this drug. It's a difficult one, but besides that, it just doesn't sound like you need brain medication at all.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
1472535 tn?1287684045 I too was on effexor but I had no emotions or no life so I gave them up after years.
Avatar m tn If it is Effexor withdrawal, what could a neurologist do about it? And if the psychatrist is right, what else could it be?
Avatar m tn You suffered withdrawal from missing your Effexor dose. This med should be tapered off of slowly, as should virtually all of these kind of meds. Even tapering slowly you may suffer some withdrawal. It's normal, though uncomfortable. I don't know if there's a generic for Effexor, maybe the doc will know.
Avatar m tn Anyway, yes there is a way to get off Effexor without most if not all the withdrawal issues. The most effective way was to take to Effexor back up to a dose the did not give them the withdrawal side effects, that ADD 20mg of Prozac to the mix for 4 weeks. then and only then we would start slowly step down off of the Effexor 37.5mg a week until off. Then after one month more cut Prozac back to 10mg for two more weeks then go completely dry.
Avatar f tn I have been off Effexor for about 5 months now. I stopped cold-turkey per my doctor's instruction (BIG mistake!). I thought once I was over the initial withdrawal, I would be fine; BUT I only had a couple weeks of feeling o.k. before I started experiencing all sorts of problems. I started with muscle weakness and pain in my calves and stomach pain directly below my rib cage. It then progressed to my arms and now my voice is even weak. Everything is bilateral.
Avatar n tn Hey Opus, No you don't HAVE to wean off anything to go onto something else. This is a way to ensure safety is the main object. I've made it clear this is my habit for the purpose of knowing which drug does what. If you mix then you have no idea at all what is causing what. The habit was introduced to me by my long term pdoc who likes to know what is going on, as I do. If you have 4 drugs in your system, as this poster does, how would he or she know what is what?
Avatar f tn I spoke with my doctor and tapered off the dosage of effexor and started on Prozac to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I took my last 1/4 pill of 37.5 effexor 1 week ago. I have been so sick, unable to eat, drink, crying, phobic, scared, nauseated and unable to function. I am really worried about my job as I have been emotional there and unable to do my job properly. Yesturday I felt that I just couldn't get through it, drove to work but don't know how I did it.
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from Effexor can be brutal. I don't remeber being shor of breath though. are you out of breath when lying down or during the day too?
Avatar m tn I can speak for 2 of the drugs, the Effexor and the Depakote. If he has only been on the Depakote for 5 days I don't believe he will have issues coming off. The Effexor does have a withdrawal but 75 mg. is a small dose, I take 300 mg. However, I would suspect he will have some withdrawal. My concern is he will go right back into a depession or a Bipolar episode quickly.
Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
Avatar f tn It may be that you need an anti-depressant. I wasn't aware that the withdrawal could go on for so long, but it could be. I went off Effexor very gradually over many months. I had none of the withdrawal symptoms, but then I could not stop crying for a month. It was clear that I needed the Effexor. If you have had depression for awhile before you first went on the Effexor, you probably do need an anti-depressant.
Avatar n tn I'm guessing you're suffering Effexor withdrawal, not Cymbalta withdrawal. It's not impossible to get a withdrawal from a short stay on a med, but unlikely. Sometimes a med just affects someone more profoundly than one would expect. But given you just came off Effexor, that being one of the hardest meds to stop taking and one that can have long withdrawals, I'm guess you didn't successfully stop it slowly enough to prevent withdrawals.
530150 tn?1284658880 I have had problems with vision, blurred and spotty, on and off through discontinuation of Effexor...have read this to be common with withdrawal process. I am feeling terrible at best but am so hopeful and ready to be done with Effexor...I begged my doctor not to prescribe it to others without sharing some of the horrible side effects with them of the withdrawal process that is possible, with tapering off process.
Avatar f tn Good luck, paxiled gave you the right information.
20290546 tn?1494336970 I'd like to talk more about my Effexor withdrawal. It's been over a month and the physical withdrawal is gone, however the feeling that I thought I had for just a few days is gone as well. I feel horrible. I feel worse than I did before I went on Effexor almost 5 years ago. I have been reading and searching for anything that will make how I'm feeling mentally go away. Bad news is that even people who were at 37.5 to over 300mg which is where I was, go through the same thing.
611559 tn?1233776445 When switching from Paxil to Effexor, I lost about 20 of the 60lbs. Effexor was given to me at 75 mg per day; then to 150 mg. of Effexor per day in a.m. A new doctor changed me to Effexor XR 300 mg. per day, taken 150 mg. twice a day. Though i lost about 20 lbs. after stopping the Paxil, the weight started going back on until i was back at 60 lbs. over normal. After some time, I felt that I was doing well mentally, and I discontinued one of my Effexor pills per day.
Avatar n tn It could possibly be from the cold turkey of quitting the Effexor... Effexor is a potent anti depressant... pretty powerful... and quitting cold turkey is no good... especially quitting something that is doing work in your brain. So it could be from that, or it could be something else. Good luck to you and your husband! I'm sure he'll find something out there to subdue the pain! And hopefully it will just eventually go away!
