Effexor withdrawal nightmares

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal nightmares

effexor

Avatar f tn Did you stop the Effexor abruptly, of do a slow taper off it? Effexor is one of the most difficult of all antidepressants to stop taking without significant withdrawal, and taking another drug won't most likely help with that withdrawal because no two of these drugs work exactly the same, and these drugs are not even in the same class of drugs.
Avatar f tn re probably suffering some kind of withdrawal or side effect. Quitting Effexor cold turkey is pretty nutso, but maybe the psychiatrist felt switching to Pristiq wouldn't present the withdrawal problem because the two drugs are so similar, Pristiq being basically Effexor with some of the molecule cut away. If this is your only side effect so far, it could also be your brain just shedding some stuff, which is what nightmares are.
1770281 tn?1315399993 i havnt had any effexor since last thursday. today is monday .i am having like nightmares and having trouble sleeping.i keep waking up all the time, feel like i been walking all the time and dont want to walk any further.i am so tired. i feel like i have been working really hard and cant go any longer but would like a really restful sleep. other than that i am coping.
Avatar f tn I like so many of you have suffered major depression and yes I was on drugs for it, but when I was first was put on them it was a small dose, effexor and I was told I would only need to be on them a short while, but this did not become the case as it turned out to be two years, higher doses and mixing of different antidepessants.
Avatar m tn I never experienced nightsweats and nightmares like you described with Lamictal. Like M, I experienced it with Effexor, only it was increased, I had taken myself completely off of it without my doctor knowing about it. I had incredibly vivid nightmares that were terrifying and, yes, I woke up with sweats. My doctor said I went through a common Effexor withdrawal, and I did feel better when I took my dose.
Avatar f tn I was on Zoloft for depression for about 6 months after trying Prozac, Effexor, and a bunch of different combinations of sedatives, sleep aids, and antipsychotics. I was up to 300 mg, but the side effects, including horrible headaches, insomnia, nightmares, GI upset, and emotional numbness, never went away. I started to taper down with my psychopharmacologist's help. I tapered down to 50 mg, but my psychopharmacologist didn't want me to completely go off of it.
Avatar f tn I've just tried to type a question and managed to erase it all, I think, because of the problem(s) I was actually writing about. Long story short, my prescription service ***** and I ran out of both Wellbutrin XL (450 mg) and Effexor (75 mg) almost 2 weeks ago.
Avatar n tn Switching to another antidepressant will probably leeson your withdrawal for the effexor. I know that some of the antidepressants you can get as generic, much cheaper. I take paxil and get it for $4.00 and that's a months supply. Do you want to try another med? You can check at walmart or some grocery stores and see what antidepressants they carry that are on their list of $4.00 meds. I hope this helps some.
20290546 tn?1494336970 I'd like to talk more about my Effexor withdrawal. It's been over a month and the physical withdrawal is gone, however the feeling that I thought I had for just a few days is gone as well. I feel horrible. I feel worse than I did before I went on Effexor almost 5 years ago. I have been reading and searching for anything that will make how I'm feeling mentally go away. Bad news is that even people who were at 37.5 to over 300mg which is where I was, go through the same thing.
530150 tn?1284658880 Please be careful discontinueing use of effexor. It can cause "rebound" depression, suicidal thoughts, nausea, vomiting, nightmares, brain "zaps". My husband quit taking it cold turkey and it was horrible. He is now suffering vision loss in one eye, which I am convinced is from the effexor.
Avatar n tn HI, if you want to know what might happen when lower your dose of effexor type into your goggle petitiononline.com/effexor read the petition then go to signatures and read what people are saying about decreasing effexor. about 20 thousand people have signed this petition. yes you will probably feel sad, this is a powerful drug, but your doctor may not know or understand the side effects of comming off the drug.
Avatar f tn My Doctor just switch my medication from 150 mg of Effexor XR to 400 mg of Seroquel XR. I dropped my dosage of Effexor gradually but I still experienced terrible withdrawl. Now I am experiencing bad side effects, " I'm guessing ths", from the Seroquel. I have gained weight in my stomach area very rapidly, I have pain and stiffness in my legs, 24 hour dry mouth and sinuses and I feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat.
Avatar n tn from what i've heard effexor is quite notorious for it's withdrawal effects and i would also advice to come off it much slower then you did and the advice given before (to get back on low dosage etc.) is probably wise. I"m on effexor myself and i can feel it if i miss even one dose; funny feelings in my head, muscle "spasms" , hangover like feeling etc. Those get better when i take my next dose. When coming off any anti dep.
Avatar m tn My question is, does that influence anything on the effexor withdrawal´s? Because i have been through this before and it did not last this long.
1770281 tn?1315399993 i am going cold turkey with effexor, but having nightmares .feel like i have been working really hard and am so tired but cant sleep properly because of these horrible nighmares. i am so tired.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar n tn I finally broke down and went back to the Gastro doctor and he canceled the Zantac and added 37.5 mg of Effexor XR. I cannot understand the reasoning behind this prescription. He stated that the Effexor will help my cramping and spasming intestinal issues. Is this prescription something that is routine? I can't find any info on the web where this type anxiety drug is prescribed for intestinal issues.
Avatar f tn Yes yes, this is effexor withdrawal Very typical. You have weaned down nice and slowly, but you are still getting w/d symptoms. Please check with your doctor to see if you should continue to wean or jump off from here and deal with the w/ds for a few days. perhaps he can give you some clonidine or valium to get you through.
Avatar n tn So I am now to take Buspar alone for 2 weeks until my nightmares and restless legs stop and then she wants me to try Effexor with the Buspar, unless the Buspar works good by itself, or just Effexor if the Buspar doesn't work. Sigh.... I'm a guinea pig, and I still have anxiety!!!!
Avatar n tn If you go to the following location, it explains what symptoms may accompany discontinuation of effexor (aka venlafaxine): "www.healthyplace.com/other-info/psychiatric-medications/venlafaxine-effexor-effexor-xr-full-prescribing-information/menu-id-72/#precautions" It seems to me you have tapered correctly but just been unlucky in the symptoms and their severity. Hang in there and things should start to normalise.
Avatar m tn If it is Effexor withdrawal, what could a neurologist do about it? And if the psychatrist is right, what else could it be?
Avatar m tn Even if I forget to take a pill one day, I will have vivid nightmares when sleeping. This is a common withdrawal symptom I hear. Then I am really exhausted the next day. I am age 62. When I have had these nightmares, sometimes I will awaken in the middle of the night with my heart pounding. Probably people have died of heart attacks from Effexor at 3 am and no one knows it. In the past, I have refused drugs like Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil. Both my parents committed suicide.
Avatar n tn s the exception-but there are a lot of people mad about it and not just on this web site. There are websites devoted entirely to this Effexor withdrawal situation. Some anxiety problems have a biological basis. Your brain chemistry (often genetic-do you have other family members with anxiety issues?) or other things like your thyroid could be throwing you off.
Avatar m tn You suffered withdrawal from missing your Effexor dose. This med should be tapered off of slowly, as should virtually all of these kind of meds. Even tapering slowly you may suffer some withdrawal. It's normal, though uncomfortable. I don't know if there's a generic for Effexor, maybe the doc will know.
