Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
Avatar n tn I am also curious about the underlying mechanism responsible for the strong withdrawal effects of Effexor. I am a neuroscience major and will be attending medical school this fall so please feel free to be as specific as possible as I really want to know why. Thank you so much.
Avatar f tn I started with muscle weakness and pain in my calves and stomach pain directly below my rib cage. It then progressed to my arms and now my voice is even weak. Everything is bilateral. Has anyone else experienced these delayed, long-term withdrawal effects from Effexor? If so, did they ever go away? I'm scheduled for an MRI of my brain to rule out anything more serious such as ALS. If my tests come back o.k.
Avatar m tn As of today I am 26 days w/o EFF XR and still feel the brain fog, muscle pain, irritability. Now based on low Hemogloban my doctor said I may have mild anemia which may help explain a few things. I have no history of anemia. I almost have to believe that effexor, or lack of effexor may play a direct role in altering other body chemicals such as blood, hormones and even glands.
Avatar f tn You can try taking a magnesium citrate supplement apart from the time when you take your Effexor and see if it helps. Second, Effexor is a stimulating antidepressant, targeting adrenaline as well as serotonin. For this reason it's not usually used if anxiety is the primary culprit, though for some it does help. This stimulating effect may be affecting you. Third, Effexor as with several antidepressants only stays in the body for a few hours.
Avatar m tn t think Prozac is In the same group as Effexor. Effexor is a SNRI, what group is Prozac in ? My doctor changed me from Effexor to citalopram to dolsulipin that was in a different group and works on a different part of the brain. That means that you go into cold turkey. When we come off too quickly like the doctors tell us to switch your brain chemistry is altered. These tablets are fat soluable so stick to fat and muscle in your body and build up depending on how many years you were on them.
611559 tn?1233776445 The anti-depressants were given to me because I have a physical disability with chronic pain, and anxiety that began at the same time as the pain. Anxiety was the worst, but as my life tanked from inability to do many things, the depression grew. Zoloft did not help much; I gained 60 lbs. on Paxil. When switching from Paxil to Effexor, I lost about 20 of the 60lbs. Effexor was given to me at 75 mg per day; then to 150 mg. of Effexor per day in a.m.
532848 tn?1214345168 So sorry you're going through this. I can't write much, because I recently switched from Effexor XR to Cymbalta and I can barely function. One Pschiatrist (not mine...I'm suffering..
530150 tn?1284658880 I have had problems with vision, blurred and spotty, on and off through discontinuation of Effexor...have read this to be common with withdrawal process. I am feeling terrible at best but am so hopeful and ready to be done with Effexor...I begged my doctor not to prescribe it to others without sharing some of the horrible side effects with them of the withdrawal process that is possible, with tapering off process.
Avatar f tn s withdrawal from effexor. T oday I was sick to my stomach and had a headache, but I also had my tongue in such pain I could barely eat. Is this symptoms of withdrawal from effexor?
Avatar m tn I've been off Effexor for 4 weeks today!!!! The withdrawal symptoms are all but gone for me, except migraines and vertigo. My PCP said it could be up to three months before all the symptoms are gone.
Avatar n tn I take 37.5 mg of Effexor XR for anxiety..Stomach pain ? maybe he should give you a spasm meds like a muscle relaxer for our bones and nerves ask your pharmacist the doctor might of been thinking about another patient and make a prescription boo.
Avatar m tn No zoloft will not help with withdrawal from effexor is zoloft in the same group of anti-depressants ? Effexor is fat soluable and stays in your system for a long time in clings to fat and muscle, I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, only being honest.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar m tn It is possible that while on the effexor you developed an anxiety disorder whose effects were masked or minimized by the effexor. Once off the effexor, the symptoms of the anxiety disorder were allowed to materialize. The so-called "enhanced" serotogenic activity of the effexor may have easily contributed to this new anxiety disorder. It is also possible that nicotinic and/or muscarinic acetylcholine receptor function was modified (semi-permanently).
Avatar f tn I finally weaned myself off the meds. It was a horror show having to go through withdrawal from Effexor for two months. The world was constantly going "Flikity Flick". Very difficult to work at my medical job feeling like that. I am currently properly diagnosed. I moved to OR, where I am enrolled in the Med Marijuana program, for muscle spasms. The MM helps with my PTSD as well.
Avatar f tn i was on it for about the same amount of time as you, i did wean also. but i still had withdrawal for several weeks. the stomach pain and nausea were the worst. hang in there, it will go away. take care.
1176402 tn?1278321169 Yes, I went thru withdrawal but with the addition of Prozac the withdrawal was not as brutal as in the past. I have withdrawn "cold turkey" and ended up on the physc ward. I strongly suggest that you be under a doctor's care when stopping Effexor. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn I went through withdraw for main pills and withdraw from effexor xr and i would much rather come off pain meds then effexor it was ten times and i wasnt takeng very high dose and was only on it for about 6 months.
647120 tn?1256601651 This is a very individual thing, but in some cases tramadol may increase the effect of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, such as Effexor - this might have made for a tougher withdrawal. If your original dose of Effexor was above 150mg/day, you may also have been getting (beneficial) norepinephrine re-uptake inhibition effects from Effexor prior to withdrawal.
Avatar f tn every one i talked to said they were having hard cramps from withdrawal off effexor
Avatar f tn There are a great many posts here about withdrawing from Effexor. It is difficult to advise you because of the need to get off Effexor quickly. You may experience withdrawals for quite a time, it is different for each person. You are coming off really fast, and I wish I could help more. You do not need this when you are pregnant. If you are not working, then you will have to lie down and deal with the symptoms, but I do hope your doctor is more help.
Avatar m tn It was decided by me (and my headache practitioner) to stop taking Effexor XR, as it might be exascerbating my 24/7 excruciating migraines/eye pain. Getting off of Effexor XR has been the worst HELL I have ever been through -- much worse than any depression. The only thing that has helped has been the addition of a low dose of Prozac, due to its longer half-life. I will NEVER go back to taking an antidepressant regimen.
Avatar m tn If it is Effexor withdrawal, what could a neurologist do about it? And if the psychatrist is right, what else could it be?
