would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.

I am also curious about the underlying mechanism responsible for the strong withdrawal effects of Effexor. I am a neuroscience major and will be attending medical school this fall so please feel free to be as specific as possible as I really want to know why. Thank you so much.

I started with muscle weakness and pain in my calves and stomach pain directly below my rib cage. It then progressed to my arms and now my voice is even weak. Everything is bilateral. Yes, I went thru withdrawal but with the addition of Prozac the withdrawal was not as brutal as in the past. I have withdrawn "cold turkey" and ended up on the physc ward. I strongly suggest that you be under a doctor's care when stopping Effexor. Best of luck to you.

This is a very individual thing, but in some cases tramadol may increase the effect of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, such as Effexor - this might have made for a tougher withdrawal. If your original dose of Effexor was above 150mg/day, you may also have been getting (beneficial) norepinephrine re-uptake inhibition effects from Effexor prior to withdrawal.

There are a great many posts here about withdrawing from Effexor. It is difficult to advise you because of the need to get off Effexor quickly. You may experience withdrawals for quite a time, it is different for each person. You are coming off really fast, and I wish I could help more. You do not need this when you are pregnant. If you are not working, then you will have to lie down and deal with the symptoms, but I do hope your doctor is more help.

It was decided by me (and my headache practitioner) to stop taking Effexor XR, as it might be exascerbating my 24/7 excruciating migraines/eye pain. Getting off of Effexor XR has been the worst HELL I have ever been through -- much worse than any depression. The only thing that has helped has been the addition of a low dose of Prozac, due to its longer half-life. I will NEVER go back to taking an antidepressant regimen.
