Effexor tapering

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor tapering

effexor

Avatar f tn You need to slowly taper the Effexor and do use the cross-tapering technique to switch to Wellburtrin. Effexor is a strong SNRI while Wellburtrin is a NDRI. Not the same thing therefore this is why you must taper the Effexor before or be on both. Tapering schedule must be done with the help of a qualified physician. Avatar f tn Hi Friends~ I have a question I started effexor xr 1 week before I started tapering. Does any one know if this will help and or hurt my process? Thanks a bunch!
Avatar f tn It went back to normal once I was completely done tapering. I would recommend not drinking alcohol at all until your done tapering off the effexor. Take care.
Avatar f tn I think the answer is not to start the Lexapro -- you were right to wait until you stop the Effexor completely and successfully before you do that, in my opinion. Effexor is notoriously difficult to stop taking, so taking it as slowly as you need to is the way to go. Lexapro is a completely different drug and you won't even know if it's going to work or not until you're completely off Effexor and it won't stop Effexor withdrawals.
Avatar f tn in the case of Effexor (Venlafaxine) it is ok to start most SSRI meds (Including Paxil) without first tapering down on the Effexor. In fact many people take Effexor along with an SSRI med as part of their treatment. Effexor is different enough from Paxil that the odds of an adverse interaction is very uncommon. Now you would not be able to do the same with another SSRI like Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, ect.
Avatar n tn In my experience with Effexor, I had to taper over a period of about 6 months because I was having a lot of dizziness while I was coming off of the medication. My doctor was very good about tapering me off very slowly. (By the way, I was on Effexor for about a year and a 1/2 and my peak dose was 150 mg). When I was tapering and got down to the 75 mg range of dose, I dropped it to 37.5 mg for several weeks. Then I took 1/2 of the 37.5 mg capsule to make it roughly 16 mg.
684736 tn?1315545341 I think it could be your meds. I was on effexor and it's a hard med to come off of. Maybe your tapering too fast. Or it could be the effexor it's self. It made me extremely tired and I was on a much lower dose than your are. Feeling dizzy is probably from withdrawal. I went through that. The best thing to do is call or see your Dr. and ask about your symptoms. I hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn I started Cymbalta 8 to 8 days ago for MDD and Gad with obsessive thoughts. And now tapering Effexor gradually. I didn't see improvement till now and feel very depressed and feel like my head is going to explode cz of the thoughts and the continuously feeling down with no interest or motivation to do anything in life. Do I need to wait for Cymbalta more or shall I consult my doctor to change it? And is it effective with treatment resistant cases as iam a treatment resistant case?
Avatar f tn Do not stop taking Effexor without tapering off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did that and felt immediate withdraws. I went totally crazy!!!
Avatar f tn How long does it usually take to get off Effexor...please answer the question!
Avatar m tn I almost have to believe that effexor, or lack of effexor may play a direct role in altering other body chemicals such as blood, hormones and even glands. Anyway, I don't think many medical professionals truly understand how this medicine can impact a person's health on the whole. My question is how long did your symptoms last once you stopped the med after a slow tapering.
1110049 tn?1409402144 My doctor is slowly weaning me of Effexor XL 150mg daily. She tells me that the lowest dose of XL is 75mg. She has put me on 37.5mg daily Venlafaxine. I tried this as 150mg dose, and it was not the same at all as Effexor. Is there any alternative. I know Venlafaxine, is supposed to be the same as Effexor, but I don't think it is - at least my body said it was different!! I am now wondering what the next step is for me. What is the difference between Effexor XL and Venlafaxine.
Avatar m tn my doc has me on effexor 150mg and is tapering me off it to 102.5 one week then to 75 next week then 150mg wellbutrin +37.
1331182 tn?1275475604 I have been researching Effexor withdrawals for a few weeks as I prepare to go from 37.5 mg to nothing after 8 months tapering. I was worried about withdrawal symptoms so I went to my doctor and explained that I had read that many people were fine if they switched to prozac for a few days/weeks before taking the final leap to nothing. He had heard of this and agreed to give me the prozac prescription. I have found a really good site about this and why this method of withdrawal works.
Avatar n tn I'm currently tapering from the devil drug "Effexor". But every day, all I can think about is how I feel, which is just weird. It's hard to put my finger on it...just restlessness (akathesia); anxiety, just simply "weirdness". And, I can't stand it. This is the worst thing I've been through. Anyone feel this way? And, will I ever stop thinking and feeling werid?
Avatar n tn from Effexor? I began tapering off it 52 days ago with 22 being totally off of it. I did really well until the last taper. 37.5 to zilch! The first week I had severe "brain zaps" and now severe panic. I found "The Road Back" which is a company devoted solely to helping you get off these meds. I'm just having so much trouble right now. My original symptom (20 yrs ago) was exactly what I am feeling now.... PANIC, suicidal, dysphoria.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have GAD and took lexapro and generic lexapro for almost 9 years before it stopped working for me. My doc put me on effexor xr on May 5 and I feel as though my anxiety has gotten worse. She has recommended we double the dose to 150 mgs . I am looking for advice as to whether I should continue on this path. I want so much for this to work ! Any thoughts? Thank you so much! Anyone has this experience and then had improvement? Looking for any and all positive feedback!
1770281 tn?1315399993 i am going cold turkey with effexor, but having nightmares .feel like i have been working really hard and am so tired but cant sleep properly because of these horrible nighmares. i am so tired.
Avatar m tn How long after you stop taking effexor do the dizzy spells stop? Gettting very frustrated and always end up giving in after about the 4th day and take one.
Avatar f tn I wondered if there was a similarity between Tramadol and Effexor! I was put on Effexor after my dad suddenly passed away and I was taking alot of Tramadol during that time as well. After I'd begun taking it, I felt less need to take Tramadol but had the thought that something was similar between the two drugs. Unfortunately my personality and everything else changed for the worse causing me to lose my relationship with my fiance'.
Avatar n tn If you are going to taper to another med, I fully suggest tapering off of Effexor with Prozac. It is a wonderful drug to couple tapering with, but your doctor will tell you that, I'm sure. It helps to soak up most of the real side effects that coming off of Effexor dishes out. Not perfectly, but it helps. I hope that was helpful. I wish you good health!
4753943 tn?1359934569 I would recommend doing the switch and if you have any problems talk to your Dr about going back on Effexor and tapering slowly. I do hope you have no problems and do well with the switch.
Avatar m tn I had a change of shift and forgot to take my Effexor 150 XR and the next day I was so dizzy and I was nauseous that I was afraid to take it I stayed home from work and every thime I moved I got dizzy and it seemed to be getting worse. When I didn't throw up that day I took the Effexor the next morning still feeling dizzy, slugish and such after a couple of hours all the symptoms went away.
Avatar n tn Talk to your doctor about tapering. You could consider a cross-titration, in which you gradually decrease the Effexor XR while gradually increasing the Celexa.
Avatar n tn I was on 150 mg of effexor xr for around two years. i tapered very slowly and had horrible headaches and brain zaps that were very very scary. While tapering my doctor put me on 20 mg of prozac and I think that helped somewhat. but three months later im still having occasional brain zaps Are these symptoms going to be permanent? im afraid that the effexor has done damage to my brain.
