When I was prescribed the generic I found it did not work the same as the named Effexor, but when I withdrew I had to go on the tablets so I could cut them up and reduce. I did prefer the capsules. No reason why you cannot tell doctor you prefer the capsules.
If the tablets work just as well, and you are happy with them that is OK. Perhaps when this prescription runs out, you could ask for capsules.
Some tablets can bounce off each other. But effexor, when I tried it, was nasty to me. Sent me through the roof. But each person would have a different reaction. It is the effexor just kicking in. Normally takes about 2 weeks for things to settle. When I say it was bad for me, that does not mean it will be bad for you. Just the reaction some folk have to certain tablets. It didn't agree with me. Stick with it. It won't take long. Then things should settle down.
Never rush coming of psych. meds. I'm on Effexor, as Citalopram didn't help.Am on it for life, as I've relapsed several times, only to end up in Psych. Hospital. Consultant insisted that it is in my best interest to remain on Effexor 150 mg as a 'maint. dose. Along with 3.75 mg. of Zopiclone (sleeping tablet) Since I've not quitted Effexor I can't answer your question. Take longer than you are tempted to before you quit.
OK so im 22 and have been taking Effexor XR 150mg for about four years. About two years into it i was having these Indescribable symptoms. I tried to tell my doctor about it and i think he thought i was nuts. I was having these weird feelings in my eyes if i moved them certain ways it would shoot through my body to my feet ( which i now know as body surges), and weird swooshing noises in my ears, and terrible stomach aches. yeah try describing that to your doctor.
Well my original dose was 225mg (effexor), I tapered off myself with the use of codeine to about 10mg, then stopped the codeine and the WD effects came in, not sure from which drug..The depression was getting to me so I'm back to 175mg of effexor. I don't think it's too many, I'm feeling fine, no more depression but also no more tablets..I'm really scared of crashing.
Iv been on 150mg of venlafaxine for the past couple of months but I wasn't able to pick my tablets up on Friday so it's now Sunday and the dizziness and sickness is getting too much I'm in tears and feel like I'm almost going to pass out is there anything I can do to help..
wow, going off of 300mg of effexor,6years on this hell pill. started with 225 for 3 days, then 150mg for 3 days, then 75mg for 3! Cold trurkey now....................itr's hell! Just let me know there is an end!
The anxiety and depression and suicidal thoughts are a symptom remember that and keep telling yourself that, effexor are evil tablets !! If you are off all meds take 5HTP it converts to seretonin of a day and melatonin of a night you could also take a beta blocker I take 40 mg's of propananol in the morning.

hi i was in the process of switching from zoloft to effexor due to the fact the zoloft doesnt help as it did before. but im confused, my new psych dr recomended i try taking both for at least a month TOGETHER. and im scared of this i see right here on this site it says theres possibly severe interactions to combing these?? i mentioned this to him and he seemed to brush that off or not agree??? help.
I have been taking Effexor & verapamil for over two years now. My neurologist put me on these medications to help with my migraine headaches, which are hereditary. I have no health insurance and can no longer afford this medication and I began to cut my dose down. I was taking two 75mg tablets of Effexor daily. I KNOW what it feels like to be without this medicine and I'm going thru the same symptoms right now.
I have taken Effexor for 3 years now. This summer my ex-husband helped me to aquire another medication. Celexa which was given to me by th ER doctor. My regular doctor kept me on effexor, buspar, and celexa with ativan as needed. These were the medications that I've taken for roughly 7 months now. Went to my doctor for a prescription refill on my Effexor and now all of a sudden he WON'T fill it. I've GONE COLD TURKEY!!!
I am without health insurance and can no longer afford my effexor. Today I am experienceing very uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. How long will this last? Is there a less expensive generic medication that I could take that would keep me from experiencing this withdrawal?
Hi It's called hycoglicymic ? Hope ive spelt it right sugar levels are effected through withdrawal thats why breakfast is so important and to eat little and often to keep blood sugars up. Eat foods that act as slow release and don't eat sugary things as it makes symptoms worse. Also avoid caffeine it stimulates the brain and gives symptoms.
I have been totally off effexor xr 75mg for 15 days. I have had all the withdrawal symptoms mentioned...pure hell!
I am trying to train for a 5K which I used to do 6 years ago before effexor. I find myself having more bad training sessions than good. I have been experiencing dizziness with a heavinress or tightness in the chest. Pulse is normally low in the 50s but does manage to get into the low 60s with training. Blood pressure remains unchanged.
I stopped Effexor XR 75mg 11 weeks ago... I stopped cold turkey. I took this drug for over 10 years at varying doses - mostly 150 mg...
I was unable to work for almost 4 weeks due to the severe symptoms that it seems like everyone experiences (brain zaps, extreme irritability and crying spells, headaches, flu like aches, inability to concentrate etc etc)
After the first month or so, it seemed like I was finally stabilizing.
Yesterday I had took a cbc and lft test.Everything came back normal except mchc and mpv in cbc.Mchc was 35.4 g/dl where normal range is 33-35 g/dl and mpv was 12fL where normal range is 7.2-11 fL & in lft Total Bilirubin was
1.09 g/dl where normal range is up to 1.0 g/dl.So why is the mchc,mpv and total bilirubin high? I am taking effexor xr 150mg capsule and alprazolam 0.5 1 & 1/2 tablets.
