I have taken both Zoloft and Effexor for long periods (not any longer because I am on differnt AD's now) What I can tell you is that (at least in my case) I found Zoloft to be far LESS effective than Effexor.
Zoloft is a one trick poney and effects only Serotonin. Effexor effects both Serotonin and Norephinepherine. Big difference in the two drugs. I am pretty sure you will find Zoloft much less effective, as most people do.
New doc says Effexor is a good drug for very depressed people but not for primary anxiety. She is taking me off Effexor 75 mg and onto Zoloft. I have only been on Effexor 6 1/2 weeks. My taper schedule is 37.5 Effexor 1 week, 37.5 every other day plus 25 mg Zoloft 2cd week, no Effexor and 50 mg Zoloft 3rd week. This sounds reasonable to me but I have myself a nervous wreck anyway. I'm scared of withdrawal. I'm also scared Zoloft won't work and I'll feel this way forever.
Effexor and Zoloft are two different meds. Yes, I think it would have helped if her Dr would have weaned her off the Effexor. What she's going through is withdrawal from the Effexor. Can she ask her Dr if he has any samples of the Effexor so she can wean off of it? I'm really not sure if she can take these two meds together or not. She may have to wean and then go on the Zoloft.
I have been on anti depressants for 16 years (zoloft, effexor)...in the last few months I went from 150 mg Effexor to 75 mg.....tired and cranky all the time, thought it was the effexor....On July 12 doctor switched me from effexor 75 mg. to 20mg prozac...prozac made me rage...after 11 days of taking prozac, I quit taking everything (July 23rd). Now I am irritable, short tempered and very impatient with people....are these withdrawals or signs of needing to to back on another anti depressant.
My doctor is changing my meds from zoloft to effexor. i'd like to know from those of you who have taken it, what you didn't like about it and what you did like about it?
Effexor is most effective for my depression and ADD. Zoloft is most effective for my obsessive thinking, but also makes me very tired. Can I take both at the same time? ( Currectly take Effexor XR 150mg.. Used to take Zoloft 100mg. daily.) If not, is there a different med that can be taken with the Effexor to help control the obsessing?

My psych tried to make effexor work again but it was not helping. He put me on zoloft starring from 50mg and now up to 100mg morning and 100mg evening. The problem I am facing is that I feel heat from my body as If I have got temperature. I have checked my temp its always normal. The psych say that your temp does not rise its your thiking give zoloft time you will be fine again.
The doctor put me on Zoloft 50 mg 2 tab day and 2 tabs evening starting from one tab and tappering off effexor plan. I took zoloft fot about 1&1/2 month but I did not feel god, Now my doctor has changed me to seroxat cr 25mg. The details are as follow:

This is a psychiatrist. I would love to find a new one but they are in short supply around here. He says this is the way to go. Even if the Effexor doesn't work he still doesn't want to try Zoloft, he suggested a tricyclic. My GP is willing to try Zoloft. I'm just scared nothing is going to work now.
Klonopin and Xanax are actually quite different medications. Xanax is probably better for this purpose, assuming it works, since it works much faster, whereas klonopin stays in the body longer but has a milder effect at first. The proper way to do this is to go back on the last dose of Effexor at which you felt fine, and taper more slowly, much more slowly.
