Effexor lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor lexapro

effexor

190673 tn?1259203266 I am quitting effexor (slowly but surely) and am down to 50 mg from 150. The only problem I have is depressed mood which my shrink says is a withdrawal symptom. I plan to be med free as long as I can and if I have to get back on meds ever again (been on them for 11 years continuously) it will be lexapro first because I used to take celexa and it was working better than others. My doctor said if I get too depressed to start lexapro right away. He gave me samples.
Avatar m tn My doctor is switching me from Effexor to Lexapro. I was on 150 mg of effexor for 2-3 years and recently have been tapering off down to 50 mg. My doctor says I should start Lexapro now but I am scared to take it while taking Effexor but Effexor withdrawals are bothering me even though I am slowly tapering off. Is it safe to take SNRI (effexor) with SSRI (lexapro)? Anyone took it together?
Avatar f tn There is noting unusual about your Mothers doctors instructions. Lexapro and Effexor can be crossed over without the need for the Lexapro to be phased out first. In fact I used to take both as prescribed for my depresssion in tandem. The Effexor will pick up where the lexapro leaves off and thus her occurance of any withdrawl from the lexapro discontinuation should be mild. 150Mgs a day of Effexor is not an unusually high dosage.
Avatar f tn I think the answer is not to start the Lexapro -- you were right to wait until you stop the Effexor completely and successfully before you do that, in my opinion. Effexor is notoriously difficult to stop taking, so taking it as slowly as you need to is the way to go. Lexapro is a completely different drug and you won't even know if it's going to work or not until you're completely off Effexor and it won't stop Effexor withdrawals.
Avatar f tn I was taking Effexor 150mg just prior to starting Lexapro, and was told to stop it before starting Lexapro which I did, but could there be lingering Effexor in my system causing these nightmares?
Avatar f tn Now he has prescribed Effexor XR. I have been on 37.5 mg for 3 days while stepping down of the Lexapro. Today my anxiety reached a fever pitch. I hate to take benzos but I needed Ativan today. Is this normal? Should I stay with Effexor? I just wish my Lexapro would work again. Thanks for any advice!
12714324 tn?1426848387 My dr is trying me on all sorts of meds for my depression/anxiety. He didn't want me on 40mg of lexapro for the concern of my liver but he prescribes effexor and xanax. Don't he know that I could get liver damage with over the counter med. I have been on effexor for two days now I can't sleep. I'm up at 330am est trying to figure out what is going on. I want to get back on my lexapro because for six years on 40mg I was happy go lucky.
928827 tn?1244736114 I have been taking Effexor xr 75mg for over a year now with little improvement. with 6 months panic attack free i just recently had a horrible panic attack. i am now going to another doctor, a psychiatrist actually and she put me on 20mg Lexapro while i was weening off effoxor taking 37.5 for a week and then totally off of it after that. my question is what kind of side effects can i see with the lexapro now and in the future. what kind of sucess has people seen with it compared to Effexor.

Avatar n tn The doctor won't answer a question on the same thread twice, so if you want to ask him this question you'll need to start a new thread. My own opinion, such as it is, is that when you substitute one drug for another, you can't tell which symptom is withdrawal and which is a side effect of the new med. Another problem here is that Effexor and Lexapro are two different classes of drugs, the first being an snri and the latter an ssri.
Avatar f tn i have had generalized anxiety (severe) for 12 yrs. currently only on 5 mg of lexapro only because i couldn't get off the last 5mg. i take clonazepam which is the only thing that works, but every couple of years i hit a wall and need to up the antidepressant. been on zoloft, paxil, celexa, effexor, lyrica, cipralex(lexapro), maoi's, etc..wondering if pristiq works, or maybe cymbalta? only snri i was on was effexor, which didn't do much but also had a brutal psych.
Avatar m tn My Dr. switched me from Lexapro to Effexor a few years ago and there was no waiting in between for the effexor to kick in. Then I was switched from Effexor to cimbalta and back to Lexapro. I never had to wait for the new meds to start working.
Avatar f tn i was wondering if it was alright that i take nadolol and lexapro... or take effexor and nadolol... i have migraines and i think im depressed because of them... so is that ok to take a combination of either of the two..
Avatar n tn Hi there! I think trying the Buspar is a good thing. It has been very helpful for a lot of people without such a severe sedation like the Xanax gives you. My own personal opinion is to TRY TRY TRY to stick out the Lexapro, I know you're having a rough time, but Effexor can be pretty stimulating. Not to say you wouldn't do well on it, but you've already come this far with the Lexapro. You're doing the right thing by keeping in contact with your doctor...
Avatar m tn im in the process of switching from effexor to lexapro i was one effexor for 5yrs. some people just need it to live life. its not bad. just watch ur diet, and live ur life.
1179039 tn?1263993568 My own opinion is that you are suffering withdrawal from the Lexapro. Going from one drug to another, especially one of a different class as you did, does not generally prevent withdrawal. What you are describing sounds much more like ssri withdrawal than the beginning side effects of Effexor.
Avatar m tn i saw him tonight for a check up appointment on the Medication adjustments. Being the lexapro made me gain weight He decided to try effexor for me I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this medication? I've heard a side effect is actually weight loss?
Avatar m tn Not a doc, but the combo of Lexapro and Effexor is pretty odd to me. They both affect serotonin, but Effexor also affects norepinephrine. I can switching from one to the other, but don't understand taking both. You do need to discuss this thoroughly with a psychiatrist, but I'd personally get another opinion if you can for these reasons: This one is just adding meds to meds that don't work. That isn't how augmentation is usually done.
772020 tn?1434994216 I have been taking Lexapro for years. It def kept the depression away, but I was very "lax" about everything. Still better than the "angry" me. My doctor switched me over to Cymbalta a month ago and I"m not liking the feeling. I take it in the morning but by 5ish, I'm shaky ... I am having thought and feelings I havent had in many years and I want to switch back to the Lexapro. I also take 1mg of Clanozapam in the morning.
Avatar m tn I take Celexa (citalopram) and I have taken Effexor XR in the past. The Effexor was best for my GAD, but I still needed Klonopin (.5 mg 2x a day) to keep the panick attacks away. BTW I quit the Effexor xr because I switched to insurance that only covers generics. I had no problem tapering off it unlike some horror stories I've heard from others. I now take the Celexa and klonopin and seem to be fine for now.
404138 tn?1308941656 I would be EXTREMELY wary of switching to Effexor. I was on Lexapro first myself, and I thought it was responsible for my forgetfulness (come to find out, the klonopin was likely the guilty party on that one!) but I don't remember having any other side-effects except perhaps a bit of tiredness.
Avatar m tn when you got off effexor, how long did the withdraw symptoms last? And what were they? I started reducing my does 2 days ago and I feel like crap.
Avatar f tn I've been on Effexor XR for 3 weeks. One week at 37.5 , 2 weeks at 75 mg. I did take 112.5 for 1 day but went back to 75. My doc told me to increase to 112.5 when I told him it wasn't helping my anxiety and was making me shaky. Not sure why an increase would help, but he's the doctor. The increase made it all worse. These tremors are too much. He seems to think they will go away with time but I don't want to wait too much longer.
Avatar n tn She decided to switch me from zoloft to Lexapro. She said I could immediatly discontinue the zoloft and start on the lexapro 10 mg. I have been feeling a little out of sorts since I have switched and i am wondering if perhaps I should taper off the zoloft and ease into the lexapro.. or does it not matter?
Avatar n tn I am sorry that you had problems with Lexapro. For the first month or so, I had some negative side effects as I started an SSRI like Lexapro. In fact, whenever I start, increase, or decrease dosage, there is an adjustment period. The good thing, however, is that they subside substantially once I reached the 'target' dosage for what I was taking.
1450085 tn?1298941702 I went through a similar thing switching from Lexapro to Celexa, which have a similar relationship to one another as Pristiq to Effexor, but for me it was because Lexapro wasn't working well and I have problems from going off a different med, but normally they're considered to be so similar you don't move from one to another.
Avatar n tn If Pristiq is like Effexor, I'd avoid it. I had the night sweats and soon, apathy. When I tried to get off Effexor, I had the worst brain zaps I've ever had. I'm sorry to hear that Lexapro didn't work for you. I haven't tried that one yet. I am very interested in Valdoxan since it sounds so different.
Avatar m tn I am going to a pychiatrist for the first time on Monday but my family MD has me on 20mg of lexapro and last week added 150mg of Effexor. In reading online it sounds like a lot of Effexor to just be starting out on it. Has anyone ever been on both at the same time or have any feedback on Effexor besides all the negative withdrawal stuff I read? Thanks!
Avatar n tn t know until you try. The least problematic are probably Prozac, and then Lexapro, but even Lexapro has been known to cause significant weight gain and Prozac isn't usually that great for anxiety, but who knows? They're weird, these drugs, and affect everyone differently.
