I have had trouble maintaining my weight since menopause. I lose weight very easily now. Over the last couple of years I have had a CT, MRI, and all sorts of bloodwork. My doctor is convinced it is just one of those things. Said she has a handful of patients that have the same thing after menopause. I take effexor for hot flashes, cholesterol medication and advair. I can't imagine any of them making me lose weight so easily. I was never heavy, but watched what I ate.
i saw him tonight for a check up appointment on the Medication adjustments. Being the lexapro made me gain

I would also look at Effexor XR as part of the weight problem as well. I was on the medication for about 5 years. I went from a size 7 to a size 13 in that time. I was not eating more just the same, exersized, and other daily habits had not changed. I do realize that it may not be the sole contributor to weight gain but for me it was. It has taken about a year now to get to a size 9 and I have done nothing different to shed the weight then I did before taking the medication.
A while back, when I was on Wellbutran, I lost weight quite rapidly, and I could not afford to lose weight to begin with. Weight loss and dizzy spells are common side effects of Wellbutran.
My biggest concern is your mom getting through the Effexor withdrawal. She will get through it, but my heart goes out to her. Take care. Best wishes to your mother.
I have not taken Lexapro, but I have taken other SSRIs (Prozac, Effexor and Cymbalta). All of them caused the brain zaps. Effexor was the worst offender, and I tapered it ridiculously slowly, and the problem hung on for a very long time. At least I found out it was a withdrawal problem by them - after stopping Prozac I had the brain zaps and suspected I was getting multiple sclerosis or something.
My physician did not call in a temporary refill and I could not get any pills sent to me before next week so I had no choice but to withdraw suddenly. I have been without the Effexor for 5 days and I do feel horrible. I have not been out of the house and it is all I can do to wash the dishes and pick a few things up around the house. I too am suffering from dizziness, nausea, constipation, panic-like attacks, and now today I feel like I could cry all day.
I lost 17lbs recently whilst on Efexor, which is notorious for weight gain. I went on a strict diet to lose weight to fit into a certain dress for a wedding. The wedding is over now, and I am already putting weight on again.
When I stopped anti-depressants for a year, I did lose all the weight I put on. The depression came back. I think we have to make the decision that we may well put on weight whilst taking anti-depressants, but without them, what is the alternative? Depression.
I am on Effexor, and it is the first anti-depressant I have been on that makes me gain weight. Have you looked up on -line to see what it says about certain medications? Mind you, Effexor also says you can lose weight. I think it depends on the individual.
I am sure there are other people on here who may have taken anti-depressants and had weight loss. I know if you ask doctor, they are no help. I suppose they are not interested if we gain weight.
I dont want to get it if its going to hender my weight loss. He told me it helped people lose weight. From what I see on line that is not what people say. PLEASE give me your opinion.

I too was on Effexor for over a year and put on approx 100lbs before the dr took me off. I'm on Cymbalta right now and one of its side effects is weight loss, so I've taken off 65 of the 100 so far. I'm not sure of the withdrawal since I took an OD and came off it in one nite. But otherwise I can certainly relate.
I am on effexor and am experiencing memory loss. I have been on it for years at 225 mg I am a practicing bulimic, recovered alcoholic, ex smoker and exercise regularly. I am 61 and eat right in the morning and day, but the evenings are always shot. my question is does antidepressive medicine cause memory loss?
So , I have been on celexa for about 5 years and went off that because of my crazy weight gain.. Went on Effexor for about 6 months and I am gaining more weight!!! I have cut my calories, cut my sugar , went to a Nutrisionist , ate exactly how I am supposed to, exercised everyday, cardio and weights .. I have always been skinny ..
