485259 tn?1519047026 New research for neuropathic pain. This video interview with Dr. Allan Basbaum discusses the possibility of replacing damaged Gabba cells with new functioning ones, thus virtually eliminating neuropathic pain. This video also provides a good explanation of the different types of pain: acute/chronic/inflammatory/ and neuropathic as well as Trigeminal Neuralgia. Neuronal dysfunction is a prerequisite of neuropathic pain, but it is unclear how the degree of structural and functional neuronal impairment is linked to the intensity of neuropathic pain. What does this study add?
Avatar m tn These neurotransmitters have been linked to a cause of depression. It is also used to treat anxiety, and neuropathic pain such a people with fibromyalgia or Diabetic neuropathy. It too takes 4-6 weeks to see full benefits. The side effects you are feeling could last months or indefinite. You would need to consider a different medication. I have personally experienced panic attacks with Effexor. I too take Cymbalta 30mg. As a nurse, I can tell you many antidepressants are trial and error.
647120 tn?1256601651 This is a very individual thing, but in some cases tramadol may increase the effect of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, such as Effexor - this might have made for a tougher withdrawal. If your original dose of Effexor was above 150mg/day, you may also have been getting (beneficial) norepinephrine re-uptake inhibition effects from Effexor prior to withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Hi martint1955, First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues. I'm sorry that you are having trouble finding a Doctor to prescribe what you think you need for your pain. From everything that I've read on the patch it is the very same medication that Suboxone is.

Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
1102732 tn?1257823629 s better than Effexor and the recent studies show really good results with Cymbalta. Effexor was introduced in 1993 and Cymbalta in 2004 for neuropathic pains and 2007 for treatment of depression and anxiety. Please note that i'm not a doctor and i'm only giving you suggestion based on my personal knowledge and current studies. You should talk about this with your doctor.
Avatar m tn a day for about 3 months....my doctor never told me to taper off. I was getting neuropathic pain, pins and needles feeling since taking the lyrica, almost immediately. it helped with the fibromyalgia, but never thought this drug could be causing these side effects...I stopped cold turkey and experienced extreme anxiety and paranoia and hypersensitivity, to EVERYTHING, jaw clenching, memory problems. The weirdest was the head, brain tingling.
Avatar m tn I have been on Wellbutrin (450mg) and Effexor (300mg) for at least a couple of years now. I was on the Effexor and then teh Wellbutrin was added. I had a mild improvement for awhile and then nothing. My doctor then added Abilify. Unfortunately that also was ineffective. I'mat a point now where I will try another path,. Over the years I have been on many different medications with no long term success. Celexa, Zoloft, Lexapro, Cymbalta and I am sure others I can't recall.
1309064 tn?1273503022 Whether or not there is nerve involvement can be assessed by a combination of examination, exact symptoms, MRI, and a study called EMG/NCS which tests how nerves conduct electricity and how muscles respond. If a nerve injury is identified, sometimes medications to help neuropathic pain (such as neurontin, lyrica, elavil, effexor, etc) can help significantly. It sounds like you've had evaluations with multiple physicians with many procedures.
Avatar f tn -) There are many options out there for pain relief but you must find the cause of the pain or treatment will fail. So if you took Baclofen thinking it's muscle spasms but it's actually neuropathic pain then you will get no relief. Take Care, Karry.
Avatar m tn Many Heppers experience some neuropathic pain.
Avatar f tn Neurontin (gabapentin) can be an effective treatment for neuropathic pain, but would seem unlikely to have any effect on any other symptoms, such as gray patches, sharpness, or color saturation. As has been repeatedly discussed here, however, it's not something one just starts taking; it is an adjustment process. See the Health Page on treating neuropathic pain.
147426 tn?1317265632 We were lucky enough to have a pain managment doc land on our forum last week. He has agreed to feed us some info on data, written for the person with no medical knowledge. He emails me the info and I will place it on the forum. I am so jazzed! PAIN - The Musical There are fundamentally two types of pain in world: "normal pain" and "neuropathic pain". Normal pain happens when someone kicks me in the shins.
Avatar m tn I have been suffering from chronic pain. My doctor has prescribed Effexor for the depression that goes along with the chronic pain. I've read a little about Effexor and am not sure this is right for me. The dose now is 25mg once a day with food and increasing to 2 times a day as "tolerable". Any one here have experience with this stuff?
