Effexor dosage increase

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor dosage increase

Avatar m tn I used to take 300Mgs a day of Effexor XR for 4 years (before it pooped out on me) Anyway there is something that you need to know about Effexor XR (Venlafaxine) that is that at or below the 150Mg dosage mark Effexor is simply just another SSRI and has no SNRI action. With Effexor the Norephineperine mechanism of action does not take place unless the patient is taking at least 225Mgs a day. In most cases 300Mgs a day.
Avatar n tn I just started taking Effexor XR (37.5mg) 5 days ago and am schedule to increase to 75mg in 2 more days. I suffered a lot of side effects the first 3 days and am my question is will I get those same side effects when I increase the dose? I appreciate any help on this. I am getting a lot of anxiety from worrying about taking meds. This is the first time I've tried this. It does seem to be helping some. I have more energy and haven't cried any.
1390101 tn?1281004159 If intolerable symptoms occur following a decrease in dosage or upon discontinuation of therapy, then resuming the previous dose with a more gradual taper should be considered. Effexor is known to increase the appetite and weight gain in 1-10 % patients. I suggest you to consult psychiatrist for further evaluation. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn I have been reading all the posts here and i'm still confused... I had been taking effexor xr at 150mg for 1 yr until my dr upped my dosage to 300mg she said it was for the "worst case patients" and it worked great for me....I was doing so well in life emotionally...I even lost over 50pnds which I credit to the drug....I was doing so well that I decided I didnt need to drug, so I stopped...COLD TURKEY.........BAD IDEA!...I dealt with HORRID withdrawls for over a month....
Avatar n tn So, Wyeth pharmaceuticals has found another application for its SSRI Effexor. How effexor will affect your insomnia is anyone's guess. Sone people find effexor helps with sleep, other find it aggravates their insomnia. It is not recommended that you discontinue effexor abruptly. I discontinued paxil after 10 yrs of daily use, so I know what discontinuation syndrome is all about.
Avatar n tn This happened at ALL levels of dosage I have taken. I really wish I would have known this before taking it. Effexor has helped with my depression & anxiety the best out of anything I have taken, but the side effects and the inability to stop taking it out weigh the good to me. After a while the dose you are on becomes ineffective and your doctor will increase your dose, of course you can only go so high!
Avatar n tn For the former, you can take Effexor in full dose for a longer period of time or receive psychotherapy in place of Effexor. For the latter you can resume your medication and taper it off stepwise over 3 months. Which method you choose to use depends on the extend your symptoms disturb your work.
Avatar m tn The original poster is on Effexor, not Wellbutrin. I found that Effexor really did help my anxiety. It also made me tired though at times. Funny how we all respond to these meds differently.
190673 tn?1259206866 Currently I take 150 mg of effexor for GAD. It helps but not enough. My Q is, can lower doze (in some cases) work better than a higher dose?
Avatar m tn hi bob, i was on effexor for five years, 75mgs, your dosage sounds a little high but i guess it depends on your height and weight. yes, the effexor could be giving you blurry vision, your body is trying to get used to it. if it continues just ask your dr. about it. stay sober, don't drink while your taking these meds, i'm sure your dr. told you that. my prayers are with you, it will get better if you stick to it and look towards the future.
Avatar n tn symptoms when I increase dosage? My doc is nice but not very thorough even if I ask questions. I am 37 and have suffered with anxiety for about 3 years, which seems at its peak approximately 2 weeks before my period. A friend suggested perimenopause but I am not too familiar with the subject.
Avatar f tn I wanted to let you know that the highest FDA recommended dosage for Effexor XR is 300mg. So, I wonder what your husband's internist meant? Yes, they can increase the dosage if you are becoming too "adjusted" to that dosage, but in some cases it is best to just switch to another med altogether. I highly recommend seeing a Psychiatrist. These are MDs who are professionals in the area of psych meds and will know exactly what to do. Find someone you both are comfortable with.
Avatar m tn First, I would like to know if you are willing to share why you started taking Effexor and why your doctor increased your dosage. Second, did you miss a dose around the time of the nightmares? and Third, the horrible dreams you mentioned are horrific and very vivid; I have had them way too many times, off and on, since I started taking Effexor. They stopped for a couple months, but the last two nights they started again.
Avatar m tn i am almost off of effexor after taking it for ten years. (150 mg effexor XR.) I didn't add any other medication as I decreased the effexor. I used a method I found online which made sense to me (http://www.clinical-depression.co.uk/anti-depressants-withdrawal/introduction/). It also addresses the issue of the half life of the drug in your system which is significant if you've been on the time-released, apparently since it builds up to a greater level. Anyway. I hope the information helps you.
Avatar n tn Please let others know what I have said. Seek other forums discussing Effexor and specifically the discontinuation of Effexor. This is a drug that has no business being legally prescribed to people who are already suffering and looking for relief. There is no relief with this, only additional pain. But I will get through it. I made a promise to myself to be strong and overcome the withdrawals. Wish me good luck please.
Avatar f tn To anyone who is thinking of starting Effexor: I found this site and was reading all the comments and got really worried. I really didnt want to start taking it, but I had already filled the perscription and didnt want to waste money so I started it anyways. And boy am I happy I did. I never experienced and side effects at all. And now I feel 1000 times happier on it. I have been on it a month now. Before I started it I tried Lexapro, but it didnt work.
Avatar n tn Maybe you really need just an adjustment in the effexor up or down ? I've tried Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac, and I know effexor is tough to start, and tough to stop, but maybe you need it. My daughter had problems cutting back on zoloft when she was pregnant, but she was able to take a lower dose all the way to the last two weeks, and both her and baby are fine. I hope you feel better, if you need to talk, I'm here to listen.
Avatar f tn I thought it might be because of the Lipitor I take for cholesterol, but I'm beginning to think it's the Effexor that caused it? Also, weight has increased even more since Effexor. Not a good drug to me.
Avatar n tn I have been taken 225mg of effexor xr for about 3 years until recently. I have since switched to taking Regular Effexor 3 times a day. (since I pay out of pocket it is cheaper)Due to a hectic schedule and just plain forgetfullness, I tend to forget to take one or two of my dosages. This cause dizziness, nausea, plain fits of irrational thoughts or fits of crying.
400067 tn?1201361694 I am on the same effexor. I tried to increase from 75 mg to 150 mg which is the top out dosage. I experienced such severe dizziness from the increase that I thought I was going crazy. I even accused my husband of "secretely" poisoning me. I decided that I would forget 150 mg and go back to 75 mg but the dizziness, headaches, and eye pain continues until alomost 4 weeks later.
Avatar n tn My doctor tald me to take 37.5 mg the first week then increase to 75 mg after that. I did not increase the dosage because i feel like my heart is beathing thru my chest sumtimes and sumtimes when i laying down its worse. I do not know if this is just my body having the panixc attacks and i need to up my dose or if it is a more serious problem and need to consider a different med.
Avatar f tn If it's just an adjustment period, is there a typical time line before I should start feeling better? I'm supposed to increase dosage weekly by 25 mg. until I am at 150 mg.
Avatar m tn May be I will increase my dosage to 225 mg or just change medication. Ur right EFFEXOR is magic, and it actually worked wonders for me, but the side effects got me a little off, aside from the fact that it's not as effective as it used to be. Thank you for clearing this tolerance issue bc it freaked me out a bit. Hope ur right! Thank u all.
Avatar n tn At the same time I started Wellbutrin, first 150mg, then 300mg. Before each dosage increase I started displaying most of the classic depressive symptoms, so I was miserable. After the peak dosage of both, I tapered off Wellbutrin, and began to feel a little more normal. With both, I felt as though I wasn't really "there", even through my son's wedding. That left me on 200mg of Zoloft, and for six months I was in a downward spiral.
Avatar n tn Have there been any studies indicating a correlation between effexor and suicide? Are feelings of suicide a noted side effect of this drug? The following source labels suicide attempts as a rare effect, but nonetheless an effect: http://www.psyweb.com/Drughtm/venlaf.
Avatar m tn I took Effexor and started having night terrors almost immediately. My dr. added a sleep tablet and suggested I wasn't sleeping deeply enough. The dreams subsided only to return in full force since the beginning of the year with the new development of slapping, punching doors and falling out of bed. After speaking to a pharmacist and being informed that Effexor could be causing these sleep disorders, my dr. switched me to Zoloft. In the beginning I took 20mg. I felt great....
Avatar n tn About 3 months ago I decided to lower my dosage of Effexor XR from 75mg ed to 37.5mg ed. For at least a couple of months now I have been feeling constantly nauseous, and I really do mean constantly. Is this a common effect of lowering Effexor dosage? I feel terrible all the time but I do not really want to increase the dosage of the medicine again as it was impacting my cholesterol values. I would really appreciate any advice.
Avatar n tn Would it be okay if I were to combine Effexor and Darvocet? I've just recently began taking Effexor about two weeks ago, but I've been having some really painful joints recently and had a few Darvocet left over from after a surgery. I was wondering if I could take them both, and the effects it would have.
