Avatar n tn Yes it is true. You cannot stop Effexor cold turkey. Because it involves the seratonin and neurepinephrine in your brain, cutting the Effexor off cold turkey can cause many symptoms. Call your doctor to get on the prescription drug program either at a local pharmacy or through the pharmaceutical company and see if your doctor can hook you up with some samples until you can get the medications from one of those programs.
1770281 tn?1315399993 i am going cold turkey with effexor, but having nightmares .feel like i have been working really hard and am so tired but cant sleep properly because of these horrible nighmares. i am so tired.
Avatar f tn I have taken Effexor for 3 years now. This summer my ex-husband helped me to aquire another medication. Celexa which was given to me by th ER doctor. My regular doctor kept me on effexor, buspar, and celexa with ativan as needed. These were the medications that I've taken for roughly 7 months now. Went to my doctor for a prescription refill on my Effexor and now all of a sudden he WON'T fill it. I've GONE COLD TURKEY!!!
784558 tn?1276007829 t recommend that anyone go cold turkey with this drug. Has anyone had a similar experience of missing the drug unintentionally? I'd rather have the unwanted side effects of drugs than be out of my mind with anx/dep. No amount of willpower/guts/courage etc has helped me to cope without drugs ~ the harder I fight the quicker I crack up. Have tried to find someone that has beaten real anx/dep without drugs~ so far no one has sent me any info. regarding their experience of doing it.
Avatar m tn Has anyone experienced withdrawal symptoms from Effexor 75mg? I went cold turkey and now it's my 6th day and still feeling strange. I'm having a hard time fighting it. Any solutions besides going on anti depression pills?
Avatar f tn I have been on 225 mg of Effexor for a few years now, varying my dose now and then. I quit Effexor cold turkey on Sunday, it's day 6 and I am experiencing diarrhea after every meal and I am having vision problems. Is it safe for me to have a glass of wine? Is there a risk of death or any major risk from going cold turkey. I am having trouble focussing and am so tired, sleeping more than average. Where do I go from here?
Avatar m tn for some time i started getting chest pains after taking prozac/effexor in the morning. subsequently, my dr ordered a full cold turkey off of effexor. that's when things got terrible. i was getting night terrors, night sweats, and then a full blown panic attack. after the panic attack things weren't the same. the dysphoria never really went away, and it's been a few weeks.
Avatar f tn Not a good idea to stop taking 450mg Effexor cold turkey. This is a difficult medication to stop without experiencing withdrawals. It took me 10 months to taper without getting any withdrawals. I hope your doctor advised you you would experience withdrawals. There are a lot of postings on this site about Effexor withdrawal. You could experience the things you are experiencing for a while.
Avatar f tn i started taking effexor (37.5 first week, then 75 second week then 150 third week)...i only took two of the 150's bcuz they started making me really dizzy...i quit (cold turkey)..havent taken anything this week...i feel VERY strange...dont know how to explain...but could i be having withdrawals after only taking effexor for 3 weeks?
Avatar n tn I am on day two of quitting effexor xr 150 mg cold turkey and i feel like im going insane, i am feeling very dizzy, tired all the time, seeing shadowy things for a second and then they dissappear, irrattic behaviour and insecurity and feeling depressed in terms of anxiety and thinking what am i going to do if...... this happened or that. scared of being alone . and headaches all the time. i dont want to go back on effexor as my friends told me all this bad stuff about it and what it does to you.
Avatar f tn I read that seizures are a possiblilty when going through withdrawal of the God Awful medication!! is this something I might have now after almost 12 days of stopping this medication "cold turkey"?
6715892 tn?1384259315 I was on Effexor 300mg for like 6 months and dr decided to take me off of it cold turkey and it was the absolute worst withdrawls I have ever had and I have come of narcos cold turkey high does for a long time and that was no way near as bad as the Effexor. As for the Cholipin I am on 2 mgs 3 times a day and have been told they are very addictive as well.
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Couldn't the doc have just put you back on your prior dose? Cold turkey from Effexor is just NOT a good idea! I would recommend talking to your doctor ASAP! Let us know how it goes!
Avatar n tn My experience was a little rough coming off the effexor, nothing physcial, just mental and I had also been on it quite sometime. If you are replacing it with the wellbutrin you may not experience the withdrawal symptoms. Do you know why the doctor wanted you to switch? The main problem I had was flu like symptoms.
Avatar m tn It took me 10 months to withdraw from 150mg Effexor daily. Did it cold turkey once before, but depression came back. You should never stop Effexor (Venlafaxine) abruptly, as withdrawals are difficult, as you have found, and can take a long time to go away. You were on a very high dose. Why did you stop the Effexor cold turkey? I had no withdrawals at all when I stopped this time. It is 4 months since I stopped and I am very well. What do you think you will do now?
Avatar n tn i was on effexor for 12 yrs. tried coming off it cold turkey a few times but always relapsed on day 2 or 3. this time, i'm pregnant and i have to do it some how. its a very dangerous med for babies. anyway, i read about 'prozac bridging' technique. told my psych doc who actually thinks withdrawal effects don't exist and its all in my head.
Avatar f tn Go to a dr they will place him back on the effexor and ween him off slowly. To go cold turkey his mind is a mess it cancause seizures and even worse things. HIs mind is trying to rewire itself but basically it is just misfiring because it is now missing the chemicals that were once there. It takes a while to come off of a drig like effexor safely. it is never safe to come off cold turkey unless it is a medical necessity and under constant supervision of a physician.
Avatar f tn i have been takin and am out of the med is it alright to quit the effexor xr cold turkey and xanax since my breast cancer in
Avatar f tn They should tave you tappering off and not doing it cold turkey. I went through withdraw for main pills and withdraw from effexor xr and i would much rather come off pain meds then effexor it was ten times and i wasnt takeng very high dose and was only on it for about 6 months.
Avatar m tn How long were you on the Effexor XR and did you taper off or just cold turkey? Effexor needs to be slowly tapered to avoid the unpleasant feelings you are now experiencing. Brain zaps can last a few days, a few weeks or much longer. I suggest speaking to your doctor about them, perhaps it's not the Effexor causing the zaps but the Emsam. Just a thought. Effexor is a very common antidepressant, but selegiline, (Emsam) is one I've never even heard of.
