Effexor class

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor class

effexor

Avatar m tn Believe Cymbalta and Effexor are in the same class of drugs. Not familar with Abilify. None of us likes the weight gain that seems inevitable with many antidepressants. Wellbutrin in very stimulating and in another class of antidepressants. Suspect there would be less sexual side effects and weight gain, but others will have to weigh in on it. It never helped me; just amplified the anxiety to point I had to have Soma to relax tight muscles.
Avatar f tn I updating my question. I am wanting to get off effexor 375 and wellbutrin 300 ... There has been a suggestion that siroquil (?) be added at night. I think this is just another something I will have to get off of. I am so confused ... In two weeks I will know what route I will take. I am very concerned about this process ....
469210 tn?1219188128 Hello, can someone please tell me what class of anti-depressant Effexor is? I need to know so I can study some drug interactions. Thanks!!
Avatar m tn I am currently on Effexor XR 150MG twice a day. I also sometimes have to use Clonaxepam 1/2 mg before bedtime in order to try and get to sleep. Also Aprazolam once a day as needed. The issue is I was just laid off and I need to fine a generic alternaive to Effexor XR the current generic for it it still too expensive for my budget. I there anything in the SSRI class that you would recommened that i can start transition to?
Avatar f tn Did you stop the Effexor abruptly, of do a slow taper off it? Effexor is one of the most difficult of all antidepressants to stop taking without significant withdrawal, and taking another drug won't most likely help with that withdrawal because no two of these drugs work exactly the same, and these drugs are not even in the same class of drugs.
Avatar f tn If you're an anxiety sufferer, getting the jitters from the SNRI class of drugs is very common and is one reason many psychiatrists don't use them for that, including mine. Both Cymbalta and Effexor target both serotonin and norepinephrine breakdown, and the latter is a brain stimulant. Wellbutrin, which isn't an SNRI, also does that and can have the same problem.
Avatar f tn Effexor is in the class of medications known as Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs) and are mainly used as anti-depressants. The side effects that you are describing are somewhat common side effects many experience from this class of medications. Zoloft (Sertraline) and Celexa (Citalopram) are in a slightly different class known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) but are also used to treat depression with similar side effects.

Avatar f tn been to my docs today to tell him the effexor are not working for me i'm not feeling the happy effect from them at all so hes given me fluoxetine (prozac) to take from monday as hes said from today take 75mg effexor every other day till sunday. but still carry on with my 15mg mirtazapine at night. i feel i should take both effexor and prozac together and my mirtazapine at night for at least 2 weeks then come off the effexor. what does anybody else think?
Avatar n tn All of these can cause digestive problems. Effexor could have, too. You just never know. Keep in mind, Zoloft is very different than Effexor, it's a different class of drug. It tends to be less problematic than Effexor, which is why your psychiatrist might have recommended it, but it's also a weaker antidepressant since it doesn't target norepinephrine, only serotonin. I'm not the doctor, by the way, just a user!
Avatar f tn My own advice is to taper down very slowly on the Paxil if you want to stop taking it before taking another med. Effexor will not necessarily substitute for Paxil, so you could find yourself suffering Paxil withdrawal and thinking it's a side effect of Effexor, nor should you be taking both at the same time since that could lead to an overload of serotonin. Do you have a psychiatrist or a regular doc?
Avatar f tn I've been on Prozac for a week to help with Effexor withdrawal. I am very nauseous and have no appetite. My doctor told me this is a temporary side effect. How long does it usually last?
603543 tn?1255294450 I wasnt doing well so the dr added regular effexor 12.5 mg to my dose of effexor xr 37.5mg....Its been almost 2 weeks and Imy depression is worse now and I feel sedated and fatigued all day...Is this bad? I know Im suppose to give the meds a chance to work, but how long should I feel like this for before feeling better? This is why Im afraid to try any meds these days, I always get neasty sode effects.......How long should I give it before I should call the dr?
Avatar m tn re just in the wrong class of meds. Also, did you just quit the Effexor, or did you taper off first? You could also be suffering withdrawals for Effexor, as it (and Cymbalta as well) are very hard to stop taking. Switching from one drug in the same class as another doesn't necessarily do anything about the effects of quitting the first med. These are just possibilities, but the do need to be considered.
Avatar n tn At one point I was on both Effexor and Abilify, then my doctor took me off the Effexor. I have done fine on Abilify alone - but that is me. Did your doctor put you on all 3 of these meds at once - or at different times, in response to symptoms you were having? I would speak with your M.D. at your next visit and tell him or her that you don't want to be on so much medication. See what he or she says. I always prefer to side with the doctor when it comes to this sort of thing.
Avatar m tn ve never taken Effexor -- I started out as primarily an anxiety sufferer and Effexor is a stimulating antidepressant so no psychiatrist has ever suggested this class of drugs for me -- but I don't understand anything about your post. Effexor is now generic and very inexpensive, so I'm not sure how this affects insurance any -- insurance companies don't much care for brand name drugs but they love generics so I'm very confused by this.
Avatar n tn Not having insurance, Effexor XR is quite pricey, $150 + a month and I had felt it was time to get off the drug. I had been reading (and crying while I read) other peoples experiences stopping Effexor. My doctor put me on a slow three month withdraw program. and I can say I am day #2 off EffexorXR! But that is about the extent of the excitedness. Can't sleep, or when I do, nightmares and starnge dreams insue.
Avatar m tn My doctor has switched my medication from effexor to pristiq and I'm wondering about the withdrawals I'm going to experience ?I was on effexor for about 2 yrs . I also deal with sleep apnea and started using a mouth piece for it . I'm experiencing extreme fatigue more than usual .I don't know if this is a result from switching medications ? If u can me with this I'd really be grateful thanks !
Avatar f tn I used to take Effexor and felt it really helped until I started getting tongue cramps and problems with speech fluidity. I then went back to Lexapro and have less problems but still have some speech issues and tongue cramping or freezing. Is there an anti-depressant that has less side effects? Does it sound like an allergic reaction or something neurological? I feel I need the medication but can't tolerate speech issues.
Avatar n tn Does Effexor xr promote weight gain or loss? Also, it is sooooooooo expensive, is there an alternative?
1128565 tn?1316721143 If you're not suffering withdrawal, than good for you. But just for the record, taking a different antidepressant won't stop withdrawal from another one necessarily. Celexa is a different class of med, so switching right to it won't necessarily do anything about Effexor withdrawal, which can be quite intense. But some people don't get withdrawal at all, some just get very mild symptoms -- there's quite a range.
Avatar n tn How well can Effexor XR 150 mg plus Remeron 15 mg help depression, and how long does it take to see any improvement?
Avatar f tn Better to try therapy, exercise, anything else before turning to medication. Second, Effexor is in the class of drugs called snris, which target two neurotransmitters directly and choline indirectly: serotonin, much like the ssris, but also norepinephrine, which is basically adrenaline.
Avatar f tn My daughter is taking 225 mg of effexor xr for the last 8 months. Before that, she was taking 150 mg for 5 years. She is 24. She tried to quit a year ago, when taking 150 mg, but the side effects terrified her and she is now in denial and would rather succumb to taking this horrid drug for the rest of her life. She has given up. This is a tragedy, and one that the drug company needs to address. A class action law suit is fine, but that does not solve the problem of getting off of this drug.
Avatar m tn My old psychiatrist told me that if I wanted off the effexor I would have to be weaned off while slowly starting prozac and then wean off it. So far I haven't tried it. The last time I went off my legs swelled up huge after being off the effexor one month. I had got through the brain zaps and thought I had kicked it but no. I relented and started the effexor again and within two days my legs were nearly normal. A week and I was back to normal.
