Effexor and thyroid

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor and thyroid

effexor

Avatar n tn I took Effexor for over 8 years at a very high dosage. Verdict is still out as to if it caused the pre-cancer I had. I think it might have, but who knows! Depression is a symptom of thyroid problems and many people have doctors who fail to understand that correct levels of thyroid can help prevent depression which then mean no anti-depressants. Do you take any thyroid replacement medication? What was your TSH before starting the Effexor. It is important to keep it in perspective.
Avatar m tn Hm, I dunno. I am going to make an appointment with an endo, because I am coming off the effexor and feeling agitated. But I don't know if that is because I am stopping effexor or becoming hyperthyroid?
Avatar m tn It just made my situation worse. Now, every 6 months my thyroid crashes , they increase my dose and I get hyper and then hypo again in 6 months.
Avatar f tn This is my case and it is difficult to understand what I am suffering from most now as the effects of being on effexor are much like a thyroid gone bad. And since I stopped effexor and all antideppresson drugs almost 7 months ago. However now I feel effexor withdrawls are worse. I am aware of this happening and am trying to deal with both problems. Has anyone else felt this same thing and if so how do you deal with it, how do you tell which is which, thyroid or effexor?
Avatar n tn I am now trying to wean myself off the Effexor and the side effects are significant (vertigo, confusion...) and the hot flashes seem worse than ever! Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate these without antidepressants? I need some help, it is impacting my quality of life and it is very uncomfortable at work. I appreciate any suggestions.
Avatar f tn I've been on Effexor for about 7 years and was recently diagnosed w/having Thyroid cysts, but need to go to an EMT for an ultrasound to figure out if malignant or benign. Cysts discovered after neck X-ray from a whip lash accident a few months ago and have had zero pain UNTIL last few days which was about 1.5 wks after my discontinuation of Effexor. Searching the net is leaving me wishing I hadn't for every answer is different and not what I actually desire to discover. Oh...
Avatar f tn I have read of a lot of people being on anti-depressants and thyroid meds and not having problems. They work on two different areas of the body.
Avatar m tn I tested a tsh of 6 and was put on .25 mcg of synthroid. I then came off the effexor and I wonder if the effexor was causing the hypo and a problem because I am still on synthorid. My symptoms are irritability, and sometimes weaky, shaky. Now, could I be becoming hpyER now or is it just adjusting to stopping effexor. I see a specialist in one week.
Avatar n tn Which is the least likely to negatively impact someone with hyperthyroidism and who is on Cytomel 10 mcg per day - Effexor, Wellbutrin or Zoloft?
Avatar m tn yes bev i have been on effexor xr since 2001 and i gained a tremendous amount of weight and then my thyroid bit the dust so now i'm on meds for that. i'm hoping that will help me lose weight. it's really hard. but this profuse sweating is just awful. i'm in texas and it's already been 100 many days. i am just wondering if there is something herbal or ANYTHING that would decrease the sweating. i drink tons of water a day.
Avatar f tn I am a 52 year old female. Post menopause and on hormones. Just hot my thyroid levels at a good level. I switched from pristiq to cymbalta back in November. I am tired ALL the time. More than when my thyroid was out of whack. Could the cymbalta be causing this and if so, what if I took it at night?
Avatar f tn Anxiety is a symptom of thyroid disorders. Hormones can and mostly will chemically change for you and most develop anxiety in both hyper/hypo. Regular stress can be present too - but I believe the thyroid excelerates the anxiety. Good Luck and watch your cholestorol levels. They should be maintain depending on how high you really are.
Avatar f tn Since the symtoms of thyroid problems are similar to withdrawal symtoms from effexor I asked my doctor to check my thyroid and he found I had toxic nodules and yes I had to have the thyroid removed, so it has been a real nightmare for me. I still am having effects from the antidepressant, such as sweats but I toughed it out, I think getting mad like you really helps one to get through, I know it helped me.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking 75mg of Effexor XR at bedtime. It makes me SO tired during the day I can hardly be productive in anyway. I have read that Effexor ONLY acts as an SNRI at 150mg's and above. Anything below- Effexor is just an SSRI. I got had to get off of Zoloft because of how tired it made me. Is it possible that by talking with my doctor to increase my does to 150 mg; would the tiredness decrease?
Avatar f tn I found out that topomax, zoomig and migraine meds can NOT be mixed and taken with Effexor. You can get what is called Seritonin Overdose Syndrome and some people have even died from it. And SADLY a lot of hospitals and even drs and emergency rooms don't even realize or know about it even though its listed in FDA reports and news articles.
Avatar f tn Over the next 3 years, I got to a baseline dosage of 75 mg and in the last year was also diagnosed with insulin resistance and thyroid disorder. With proper management of these areas under the care of an endocrinologist, I lost 40 lbs and had a lot more energy and focus and based on suggestions from this doctor, I have been trying to come off the Effexor. I certainly had issues with post partum depression in the past but not sure if I needed a drug of this level my endocrinologist felt.
Avatar m tn Now I have no insurance, meaning, I cannot pick up my Effexor XR, Levothroid, Zocor (for cholesteral)and also my trazadone for sleep. The only thing I was able to pick up was my xanax 1mg 2X daily. It was only $19.00. As for the rest, what kind of danger am I going to be in not taking these meds. I have been taken all the above mentioned meds for 3 years or longer. What am I to do??? Thank You. Kevin.
1361367 tn?1280632089 I asked my Dr. to start weening me off effexor xr. I am dealing with a thyroid condition and have put on 35 lbs. in 2 months. Has anyone gained alot of weight from effexor xr? I am taking 150 mg. He told me to take 75 mg for a week, then 37.5 for a week. Can I expect withdrawals?
603543 tn?1255294450 that was last tuesday i didnt feel any better so i bumped it up to 5 mg today to see how i do...cuz im suppose to be weaning off my effexor xr 37.5mg....both the dr and pharmacist said to take my effexor every other day then every 3 rd day etc... Does this sound right? I thought you couldnt do that with the xr version..Ive had nasty side effects coming off the effexor, im so scared to get worse but I want to be better so badly..
Avatar n tn You may need to have the dose changed up or down (with your doctor of course) Your doctor could add another anti-anxiety agent TO your Effexor. I have been on Effexor 13 years and my doctor added BuSpar to it-I have no anxiety unless I'm REALLY stressed out & that's more circumstantial. There is a list of many drugs used for anxiety on WebMd or Drugs.com.
1097179 tn?1257371144 I was taking birth control pills and effexor XR. I had been on Effexor for 4 years for panic attacks and then in April I started having breakthrough attacks and even started having anxiety attacks and adrenaline rushes that I hadn't experienced before. They seemed to go away after I got off the medicine, until the end of October, the anxiety came back. I've never had the thyroid ultrasound done. My endo has only done the blood work and then sees me 3 months after.
Avatar n tn I have taken wellbutrin XL 150 for about four years, but recently it stopped helping. My doctor added effexor XR 75 and trazodone 50mg to try to settle my horrible anxiety and pick me up from the dark depression I started experiencing about 2 months ago. Two weeks ago I was hospitalized for medication adjustment. I was awesome (except for jitters and high pulse rate 102-140 daily) until 3 days ago I started having anxiety every morning and cry all day for no good reason.
Avatar f tn He then went on the computer to check my notes and thyroid tests, and he said he is 100% sure its not my thyroid. He said all 3 thyroid tests ive had done are negative. I walked out with tears in my eyes, their not taking me seriously !!! I know my body, and i agree its my thyoid. So on Friday i see my partners Aunt who has her own doc surgery and she knows my past with drug abuse. She was the first one who said 4 months ago just from me talking to her, that said its sounds like my thyroid.
