I have recently just quit effexor and would like to know if Prozac will cause me to gain weight? I gained 30 pounds on effexor and now weight 230. I feel like just saying the hell with eveything cause I can;t seem to loose any weight. I am 52 and on oxygen 24/7. I got a home gym and it still don;t help so I was wondering about prozac and weight gain.
If you had success with Prozac before, chances are you will again. I'm 62 and was just switched from Celexa to Prozac. But we can build up a tolerance to these types of medications and often switching to a new one is best. I haven't heard anything about there being a medication better for us older folks, but maybe someone can jump on here and enlighten both of us. Effexor is widely used with great success but it still comes back to what will work best for each of us individually.
i was on it for a while then came off and now had another panic attack and went bk on the effexor which helped for 6 weeks then seemed to stop working for me so thats why my doctor put me on prozac i picked up being on both effexor and prozac then weened off effexor over 2 weeks as told to by my doctor and been off them 22 days today.is the effexor out of my system yet and should the prozac start to work now as i feel tired all the time and don't feel refreshed after a 7/8 hours sleep.
Finding the right one or combination is trial and error and this is very frustrating for us, but when we do it is well worth it! I have taken Effexor and Prozac with no issues, but others have side effects. Your body does build up a tolerance to these medications, but it can take several years at which point they just switch you to a different one. It sounds like your hormones are out of whack which can not only cause your symptoms but depression.
I was taking 40 mg prozac, 60 mg dexedrine, and taking xanex as needed. I just changed the prozac to 150 mg effexor, because my Insurance co. wouldn't let me continue getting brand name prozac (the generic brand didn't work the same. I had no problem changing over to effexor, no withdrawal effects from prozac. What made you get off the meds? That's wonderful you are no longer depressed. I don't think I will ever get off the anti-depressants.
I was on effexor 75 mg for almost 7 months. Now that I am pregnant, my doctor stopped the effexor gradually and it is been now 5 days that I stopped completely the effexor. I have bad withdrawl symptoms. like anxiety, I cannot sleep at night, mood swings, dizziness, and i cannot sleep at night. can I switch to prozac ?. my doctor's opinion not to take any anti-deppresants medications for at least the first 3 months of pregnancy are completed.
t think Prozac is In the same group as Effexor. Effexor is a SNRI, what group is Prozac in ? My doctor changed me from Effexor to citalopram to dolsulipin that was in a different group and works on a different part of the brain. That means that you go into cold turkey.

She thinks that I may be bipolar and is taking me off Prozac for the wkend and having me take 37.5mg effexor through the wkend and she will re-evaluate on Monday or Tues. She is talking about taking me off of everything all together and starting treatment all over. The prozac will prob work after I get the effexor out of my system if they symptoms im having are in fact withdrawsl. That way I could just stay on prozac and wean much more slowly off the effeoxre.
do you think i will be ok to have my 75mg effexor and 20mg prozacin the morning and 15mg of mirtazapine at night for the next 2 weeks and then ween off the effexor. and stay on 20mg of prozac and 15mg of mirtazapine. and then eventually come off the 15mg of mirtazapine when i feel ok with the 20mg of prozac.
I felt sick to my stomach, headache, dizzy, and then had a panic attack. I am just hoping the attack came from being off of the effexor. I weaned from 150-75-37.5 and I quit the 37.5 two days ago. Now today, 2 days later, I had another major panic attack. Plagued with negative thinking, fear, worry. hi was just wondering if the meds i'm on are for me or not??? i'm on 20mg prozac week 4 and 2 days and have been off effexor 17days The reason for the change in meds was effexor wasn't working for me even tho it has done before .I do feel i'v picked up at little but after a 7/8 hours night sleep feel tired and not rested at all. I'm yawning alot have bad diarrhea and feel anxious most of the time and haven't got that happy feeling like i used to have.
in the last few months I went from 150 mg Effexor to 75 mg.....tired and cranky all the time, thought it was the effexor....On July 12 doctor switched me from effexor 75 mg. to 20mg prozac...prozac made me rage...after 11 days of taking prozac, I quit taking everything (July 23rd). Now I am irritable, short tempered and very impatient with people....are these withdrawals or signs of needing to to back on another anti depressant.
What you're probably experiencing is called protracted withdrawal. Your psychiatrist is having a typical psychiatrist reaction, which is to ignore common sense which would tell anyone that when you have a problem you never had before and the only new thing is you stopped taking a medication, you're brain is probably having a hard time adapting back to working naturally. This is a common reaction to taking antidepressants for a long period of time, as you did.
While I quit cold turkey, I was on prozac during for a period of 3 weeks before quitting Effexor, and then continued taking the prozac for another 3 weeks. My psych's experiences with this has shown that it greatly minimizes withdrawal effects for those coming off effexor in this way.
When I quit the effexor during the prozac period, everything was fine. I experienced some lightheadedness for 2-3 days but that went away.
SO I DECIDED TO GO BACK AND HE ACTUALLY GAVE ME 10MG OF PROZAC TO OFFSET THE WITHRAWL FROM THE EFFEXOR AND IT WORKED!. HE TOLD ME TO TAKE ONE DAY OF 37.5 EFFEXOR, AND 10MG OF PROZAC. THEN FOR 3-5 DAYS TAKE JUST THE 10MG OF PROZAC. I FELT A LITTLE SICK STILL GETTING OFF THE EFFEXOR WITH THE PROZAC BUT IT WAS NOT NEARLY AS BAD. THE REASON HE GAVE THE PROZAC TO OFFSET THE EFFEXOR SIDE EFFECTS IS BECAUSE PROZAC HAS A MUCH LONGER HALF LIFE THAN EFFEXOR.
Have tried most all of them 15 years ago and Prozac seemed to be the one that worked without severe side effects and it worked very well at 20 mgs, then pooped out a several months ago.
Upping the dose didn't work either. I suffer from mild anxiety, panic and social phobia, Prozac worked great all those years and now symptoms are coming back. even more severe than before.
Effexor and Celexa are both SSRI's I believe and you really shouldnt have been on both at the same time. Especially with Buspar. The combination seems off to me. However having to go cold turkey is hard as well. I think you need to seek another doctors help asap. Please dont take any meds from any source other than what you have been prescribed. Switch doctors asap!!!!!
