Effexor and libido

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor and libido

effexor

Avatar f tn s to come off Effexor and see how he goes. As a nurse, I know that many anti-depressants seriously affect libido and sexual function, but haven't wanted to tell him in case it comes across as me not being satisfied with our sex life thus putting more pressure on him.
1427612 tn?1282978018 s in the past and they switched my libido off, but it returned immediatley on stopping. Effexor being an SNRI may be different.
Avatar m tn Effexor is already affecting your adrenals, this should be taken in account. Supplementing with DHEA could improve your depression symptoms by reducing your cortisol level. Testosterone also play a crucial role in mood and sex drive so I think it will help. It will also help with your memory. You must be careful with the dosage tho because too much testo or estrogen is not good.

Avatar n tn I have been on Effexor XR 150 mg for 4 years and due to the cost and effect on my libido, I have started withdrawal, first tapered to 75 mg for 30 days, now on 37.5 for 15 days, then everyother day, and to continue till I'm done. Well in talking to my pharmacist she said she has seen violent reactions when people stop suddenly. My mood swings are terrible and I'm suprised my husband hasn't locked me up. I get angry, moody, incredibally sad.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Effexor or Venlafaxine is an effective drug to control menopausal symptoms such as the hot flashes and mood swings. Though you are correct that this can have side effects similar to what she's experiencing now, these side effects are not that common and I believe the benefit that she can derive from this drug far outweighs the potential risk of side effects. Also, I believe that putting her on Effexor is only a temporary measure so as just to control the present symptoms.
Avatar f tn I know that these are both common side effects for all, but ive been through Lexapro, Paxil and Zoloft, and Effexor is the only that has had some type of effect in terms of alleviating the dear depression and anxiety. But, I am terrified of the process of switching, I'm terrified that I'll be suicidal all through it. I'm sure if i do it I'll wind up dead. I went down 37.5 once, to try to see if it could help with me sleeping so much, and was a wreck.
Avatar m tn Also... I've been on Wellbutrin for 6-8 weeks now ~ and it's put my libido through the roof! It's wonderful, well except that I'm single ROFL!!!! Wellbutrin helps to regulate the endorphine norepinephrine whereas the ssri's help to regulate the endorphine seratonin.
1687493 tn?1305600366 Ever since i started my zyprexa[antipshychotic] and celexa. effexor[antidepressants] my sex drive and errectionsare weak. is there anything i can take or do to help this?
Avatar n tn I went off of effexor recently and it caused all types of symptoms. I was feeling like I could not catch my breath, heart was racing, nausea, dizziness, and very thirsty. I felt like I was having a heart attack. Everyone has different withdrawl symptoms and some may not have any. Once I was done weaning off of the drug the symptoms decreased and finally went away completely. I have been totally off of the meds for 2 1/2 weeks and feel wonderful.
Avatar f tn ve recently been prescribed Celexa (I plan to do about 20 mg for 9 months to a year). I know that Celexa, like any SSRI, causes sexual side effects like low libido, erectile dysfunction, and anorgasmia. My question is: Will these side effects wear off after I stop the Celexa? Can anyone who has experience with Celexa or other SSRIs tell me if their sexual side effects wore off after the treatment was over?
642393 tn?1227032656 I went to the doc about an hour ago and he gave me effexor and Abilify i know nothing about it could you plz tell me about it? are they any side effects? Does it help and how long does it take to start helping??
Avatar m tn I took Effexor for almost a year and stopped it last May. I had slight problem with erection, when I stopped it. However, around a couple of Months from stopping, I had serious soft erection and still wondering if this is due to Effexor or the stress associated with my work, which increased a lot in the last two months or me masturbating 4-6 times a week.
Avatar n tn I am on 150 mg Effexor XR and have started taking 50 mg 5-htp twice daily as well since the 150 mg Effexor was not completely helping. I have noticed an reduced libido, specially ejaculation poblems. Can 5-htp cause this? I am planning on tapering effexor completely and use 5-htp in the near future. I also take klonopin and buspar. Any suggestions, comments will be really appreciated.
1641428 tn?1305955145 I'm a 22 year old female and have been taking celexa off and on for a while. I have been diagnosed with clinical major depression and I thought celexa was helping me, until now. I was first put on celexa a few years ago, and although I was skeptical about it, I couldn't deny that it was helping me. However, at that time, I was in a long distance relationship overseas and as such my sex life was practically non-existent.
Avatar n tn All meds come with side effects. It's wonderful that we have them to help us but we could sure do with those side effects. Wellbutrin is different from Effexor, it's a stimulating med. I took Effexor myself and was sleeping way too much just like you. I think that's why your Dr prescribed the Wellbutrin, to give you more energy. Are you only taking the Ativan once a day? If your still feeling agitated and irritable at this dose don't be afraid to tell your Dr.
Avatar f tn Effexor and Buspar ...LOL. DRs Looooooooove to hand these out. Like candy as a matter of fact. But hey, to each his/her own. I actually was GIVEN a RX for Buspar IN ADDITION to my LT Benzo RX, but I have Discontinued the Buspar. I wouldn't give the Buspar to my dog. Well, hope I've covered some bases. You've got your SSRI's which you are on now, and the "candy" drugs like Effexor and Buspar, which for SOME do work, and then your Benzos. Good Luck...
Avatar n tn i switched to 37.5 mg effexor xr because of my decreased libido. after several months, i feel generally anxious again, as if i've had caffeine. the other thing i've noticed is a decreased memory for names, places, etc. can you tell me what is causing this, and how can i get relief from this anxiety? it makes me irritable and otherwise unable to function optimally. i am 49 yrs old, and female. thank you very much.
Avatar n tn Effexor seems to cause the same libido and anorgasmia (?) issues. In fact, most ADs do. I think a wellbutrin combo is the only thing that most people find fix that. Originally, I was on Pristiq, which is the newer Effexor. I know it's pretty much the same drug, but I did not think the libido thing was AS bad. It's never great though. I'm almost at 48 hours without Effexor and hanging in there.
Avatar m tn I have similiar problems - i have no sex drive and my erections are weak. I am on zyprexa, celexa, and effexor[antiphsychotic, antidepressents]. Is there anything i can take to improve and return my sexual desires?
Avatar n tn My husband das been diagnosed with depression and anxiety had been taking Effexor XR 75mgs or about 1 year however the side effects ie weight gain tiredness and loss of libido was troubling him. The switched to cymbaltor, due to high costs (even with insurance) of this medication is wanting to switch to somethig that is less expensive and that has a generic available. What about Wellbutrin or do you have any other suggeations?
Avatar f tn My husband has been taking Effexor and Remeron for the past few years to treat his depression (which has been working great), however we rarely have sex anymore. I have openly discussed this with him. He has talked about this with his psychiatrist (who wanted to prescribe another anti-depressant that might increase his libido - he declined). Anyway, I'm really attracted to my husband still after 17 years! We both love each other dearly and, well I need sex sometimes!
Avatar n tn BUT i just had major depressive episode (zombie/like paralysis, constant sobbing and deep sadness, difficulty sleeping) coupled with my normal anxiety (external factors involved such as surgery recuperation, serious family and relationship problems. but who knows how internal and external issues fuse?). wanted to stay off effexor due to low libido side effects (am in a relationship which is suffering) . had taken 150 mgs wellbutrin in the past along with effexor and was fine.
Avatar n tn Paxil is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) and Effexor is an SNRI (serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) so they are two different types of anti-depressants and each one works differently on different people. Your doctor would know by asking questions which ones would work the best for you based on how you generally feel.
Avatar m tn In contrast, the SSRIs (Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft and Celexa), venlafaxine (Effexor) and mirtazapine (Remeron) averaged about 40%. When subjects were removed who had other probable causes of sexual dysfunction, the results were even better. Wellbutrin's rate dropped to 7% with the other medications dropping to between 23-30%. 919239 tn?1269394658 I have been prescribed Paxil,Zyprexa,Effexor,Cymbalta, Prozac, Wellbutrin, Lexapro,Celexa, Zoloft, and probably something I have forgotton. These anti-depressants did little or nothing other than lighten my wallet. To be honest, the best results that I have experienced has been taking self injections of testosterone. I am male,55 yrs. old and found that my testosterone levels were very low. The injections give me more energy, less fatigue, stronger libido, and a better sense of wellbeing.
