Effexor and gambling

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor and gambling

effexor

Avatar m tn Well, sure the medication could be making you FEEL more impulsive, but you're still in control of your decisions and compulsions. Have you ever been diagnosed with manic-depression, or Bi-polar disorder? If not, it sounds as though perhaps the Effexor may be making you a little manic. Do you feel very "up"? The sad thing here is that the medication IS working to decrease the initial symptoms you started taking it for.
Avatar n tn He then decided I was experiencing a common reaction for someone who is bipolar and then prescribed Symbyax and told me to start taking this immediatly instead of the Effexor xr. That night I didn't take the Effexor and began the Symbyax. I slept for 15 hours and missed work. Again I was informed that it is a side effect that will pass. I decided at that point, my life prior to taking any medicine was probably better however miserable I was before now I am even worse.
1094974 tn?1258046298 The losing phase - Gamblers often begin bragging about wins they have had, start gambling alone, think more about gambling and borrow money legally or illegally. They start lying to family and friends and become more irritable, restless and withdrawn. Their home life becomes more unhappy, and they are unable to pay off debts. The gamblers begin to "chase" their losses, believing they must return as soon as possible to win back their losses.
Avatar f tn I'm addicted to a game gamblin site , my question is there a way of conversations to get out of this? I've been in therapy for years and it doesn't help me.
Avatar f tn Alright ladies, I need some advice. My brother is law's 21st birthday is next weekend, and he wants to go to a casino for dinner and gambling. I can't decide if I should go or not. There are non smoking rooms for gambling and the restaurants are all non smoking. I just don't know if I'm over thinking this whole thing, and if I should just go for a few hours and stay in the non smoking areas. What do you think?
620048 tn?1358018235 My pulmomologist gave me ropinirole (Requip) because i have so much movement in my limbs, especially my feet, when I am sleeping and when I am awake too. I was looking up the drug and i found this side effect........ 'Some people using ropinirole have developed a gambling habit. It is not known whether ropinirole actually causes this effect. Talk with your doctor if you believe you have an unusual urge to gamble while you are taking ropinirole.
190673 tn?1259203266 I have been taking Effexor XR 450mg and Buproprion 450mg for a couple of years. I'm weaning off the Effexor, going onto Pristiq and continuing the Buproprion.
1508131 tn?1289912796 I tried to approach my wife about her vicodin addiction and gamling addiction, but she said she needed her vicodin for her chronic fatigue and gambling for stress relief. She would get severely angry at me, and tell me I only want to take the things she enjoys away from her even though she needed the vicodin for her chronic fatigue. We were only married for 2 years this month, and I had to tell her to leave. Now, she said I am 100% at fault for the marriage breaking up.
Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar f tn I take Effexor for depression and forgot to bring it with me on a 3 day getaway with my 2 young boys. My girlfriend who was also there offered me a Xanax for the 8 hr. drive home just in case I lose it (my mind that is). I only took half and it seemed to work great. The drive was a breeze. Today however, I took my usual dosage of Effexor and now I'm feeling extremely detached. Like I just don't care about anything that is happening - good or bad.
Avatar n tn My doctor has suggested that I come off effexor (which i have been on for over 2 years) and start taking Wellbutrin XL. I was to take both of them for 1 week and then stop the effexor and take Wellbutrin only. I have not been feeling very good very tense, anxious, lightheaded and chest pains. I spoke to a pharmasist who suggested stopping the effexor straight away and continuing with the Wellbutrin.
Avatar m tn d done most of my life. Alcohol, cigarettes, gambling. All gone And gone as soon as I decided to stop them. They were done separately as I was ready but now I miss none of them. Nobody is beyond help despite what a particular doc may tell you. My own doc, in our first appointment, said I only had one option, ECT. After initially agreeind in desperation my partner researched it and I changed my mind, such as it was at that time.
Avatar m tn I have been weaning of 37.5 mg of Effexor for a week and a half taking it every other day. When can I start taking 25-50mg of 5Htp. Will this be safe to do? The Effexor is driving me crazy (sweating, fatigue, nausea..etc)..
Avatar m tn I believe i have a drinking problem and have a history of compulsive gambling as well. I drink 2-3,4 nights a week. Am i damaging my mind? What is the answer? Is there a choice other than AA?
Avatar f tn Do you think the PN was always this bad and reducing the Effexor is allowing the pain and numbness to come through, or do you think the additional issues are side-effects of reducing the Effexor?
Avatar n tn It can take some time for the immune system to produce enough antibodies for the antibody test to detect, and this time period can vary from person to person. This time period is commonly referred to as the “window period.” Most people will develop detectable antibodies within 2 to 8 weeks (the average is 25 days). Even so, there is a chance that some individuals will take longer to develop detectable antibodies.

190673 tn?1259203266 I am quitting effexor (slowly but surely) and am down to 50 mg from 150. The only problem I have is depressed mood which my shrink says is a withdrawal symptom. I plan to be med free as long as I can and if I have to get back on meds ever again (been on them for 11 years continuously) it will be lexapro first because I used to take celexa and it was working better than others. My doctor said if I get too depressed to start lexapro right away. He gave me samples.
940358 tn?1245207998 I also was on Effexor and had a incident that my eye got a bump behind the lid and turned purple (The lid ) I also had dark circles under my eyes a few days before this. How much do they really know about the effects of this drug on the general population. Each individual is different. Thanks for any responses. This discussion is related to Blindness & Effexor.
Avatar m tn Hm, I dunno. I am going to make an appointment with an endo, because I am coming off the effexor and feeling agitated. But I don't know if that is because I am stopping effexor or becoming hyperthyroid?
Avatar n tn wants me to take Effexor 37.5mg twice daily to help with the hot flashes and mood swings. My concern is that I was previously on Zoloft 50mg. and it gave me real bad headaches raised my blood pressure and sent me on a emergent run to the hsp. emergency room,,I am concerned about starting this medicience that it will cause the same problems or worse. My O.B. says they are different and that I should try the effexor. What does everyone else think?
Avatar f tn s to come off Effexor and see how he goes. As a nurse, I know that many anti-depressants seriously affect libido and sexual function, but haven't wanted to tell him in case it comes across as me not being satisfied with our sex life thus putting more pressure on him.
Avatar f tn Has any of you menopausal gals(like myself) had any experiences with reduced hot flashes while using Effexor? I am on HRT now and just started Effexor for anxiety and my dr. says it works great on reducing hot flashes. If this is so maybe I will cut back on HRT for hot flashes. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I'd check w/ your doc and OB. I was on Lexapro and went off but I was also on a smaller dose (5 mg). I've read many different opinions but mostly I've read that during the first trimester it is best to be off. My OB reinforced that if I had any depression whatsoever that there are many safe meds to take. For me, I've been fine going off and have felt fine and am actually glad I'm off! Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hi there, I was on this drug for about 2 days because it didn't suit me but I have had this side effect from other SSRI's and other Mental health drugs..it is very annoying and time consuming LOL..it should get better in a few weeks. I used to find night time the worst. It was as though I had to really get my brain to concentrate on urinating..sometimes turning a tap on so it makes the tinkly noise helped!
