It is not that serious or emergency condition. It is preventable, if proper care is taken. You also need to quit smoking to prevent further damage to lungs. Take care and regards.

196595 tn?1213841312 I get so short of breath just doing simple things and feel exhausted most all of the time. Is this normal with my level of function? Also, when I quit smoking and begin an exercise program will my symptoms go away and is there still time to reverse this? I am absolutely horrified. Is this considered mild COPD or moderate COPD? Is this fixable or rather curable? Should I be so short of breath from doing laundry, taking a shower, etc.? Thanks so much.

Avatar f tn s a shocker! What helped me to quit smoking, was the fear of my breathing getting worse. That should be enough to scare you, too. Your lungs ARE guaranteed to get worse, and you may get to carry oxygen around. How would you feel about that? I'm sure that your poor husband had a horrible time breathing with the lung cancer and emphysema, and do you think that will NEVER happen to you?? Do you think your husband would want you to continue smoking? What about your love ones???

213398 tn?1202670474 Your family history of asthma and 16 pack-day smoking history are consistent with chronic bronchitis and/or asthma, both conditions associated with inflammation of the airways, cough, increased mucous production and obstruction to air flow through your bronchial tubes. Either condition, chronic bronchitis or asthma, will invariably be worsened by exposure to cigarette smoke and chronic bronchitis seldom occurs in the absence of exposure to any kind of smoke or industrial irritants.
Avatar n tn Hello Dear, Ethambutol may produce decreased visual acuity which appear to be due to optic neuritis and to be related to the dose and duration of treatment. The effects are general reversible when administration of the drug is discontinued promptly. Ethambutol may produce constriction of visual field central and peripheral scotoma, and green-red colour blindness which may be associated with retrobulbar neuritis .
Avatar m tn First of all, it should frighten you enough to want to quit smoking. Your risk of heart attack, stroke and amputation are probably greater than 75% over your lifetime if you continue on this path. With regards to the irregular heart beat a holter monitor is a portable cardiac device that one wears for 24-36 hrs to monitor your heart rate and any irregularity. It might be the first step to evaluate this process. think about if this is how you want to live your life?
Avatar f tn Are the effects of elevated amonia levels reversible? After the the levels have been brought back down and other complications due to the levels will a person not be confused and unresponsive? Someone I love dearly had ulcers the were bleeding in the lower part of her esophagus. That and the history of a liver disease caused the amonia levels to get high enough that she was comatose. They got the levels down and removed her ventillator but she still has a blank stare and is not responsive.

Avatar m tn It is a type of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The main cause of emphysema is long-term regular smoking. The other causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus and spill into the wind pipe causing cough. Treatment with antacids will help neutralize the acids. Post nasal drips can occur with sinusitis and throat infections.
