Avatar m tn However, there is substantial evidence that this substance causes lung damage and lung disease. The following is a 2008 statement of the World Health Organization (WHO) on the adverse effects of marijuana.
Avatar f tn I walk each day, currently 1 1/4 mile getting my heart rate up to 125 or so. I use a nebulizer twice a day and am on the wean off dosage of the cortisone. My question is about the discomfort I continue to have on the left side of my chest. It continues to feel bruised. There are times during the day when the pain goes away but it is there every morning when I get up. I am a thin woman and had lost weight (down to 100#) at the time of my arrest.
Avatar f tn It's harmful to ingest most anything while you're pregnant...from different prescription meds, certainly illicit drugs are dangerous. There's no way to know the full extent of the effect on the baby...sometimes years later, a child will present with learning disabilities that can most likely be attributed to usage during pregnancy. You hear sometimes people have babies after they've used a drug during their pregnancy that appear to be fine.
Avatar f tn Ventolin opens the airways - since you are a smoker there is a lot of mucus build up in there. Smoking causes the little hairs in your lungs and respiratory system to seize and stop working - this means that they cannot move the mucus out of the lungs if something is irriatating it. The ventolin opens the airways and thus is allowing movement of some of the mucus that is stuck. You WANT to cough the junk out!!
1102792 tn?1285925260 ve noticed that i experience an acute loss or respiratory drive when i smoke, maybe just after a few drags or a few mins after i finsh smoking, first time it was very serious i had to get out of the car and force my self to breathe, later on i realised that the symptom is relieved by alcohol. and if i smoke and drink it doesn't happen, also it doesn't happen every time i smoke, just starts out of the blue. will like to know the cause and treatment.
335728 tn?1331414412 s already known that smokers are at higher risk of developing MS. But the effect of smoking on the progress of MS has remained uncertain. So Brian C. Healy of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School assembled a team who studied 1,465 patients who had MS, including some who were current smokers, others who were previous smokers and some who had never smoked.
Avatar f tn Albuterol actually does nothing for me. I'd get all the side effects with none of the benefits.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much. I'm in a real catch 22 with the methadone. I had accidental co2 poisoning from a heating system and the nerve pain was unbearable it seemed to go into my weakest part first which was low back . I was on many narcotics but methadone is the only one that takes edge off or I don't move. The nexium I'm on plus Wellbutrin and lamictal cannot be helping. I did have a breathing test yesterday. They have ruled out ms and ALS. But yes the dr said meds could be the problem.
Avatar f tn Prednisone is a corticosteroid which is used for a wide variety of diseases. It decreases inflammation and suppresses the immune system. Some of the uses of prednisone include treating autoimmune disorders, skin diseases, disorders of the endocrine system, exacerbations of multiple sclerosis, respiratory diseases (such as acute asthma exacerbation) and rheumatoid arthritis. Prednisone has many different side effects associated with its use.
1081325 tn?1284760197 Excitatory symptoms are sometimes ignored as possible side effects of meperidine, but may be due to the accumulation of a metabolite, normeperidine. Accumulation of normeperidine occurs more frequently in patients with renal insufficiency and in patients who are receiving meperidine via a patient-controlled analgesia pump.__Severe adverse effects, such as respiratory depression, may be treated with the opiate antagonist, naloxone.
7864743 tn?1394869696 I caught it and it turns out to be something worse. I was sent to the emergency room. I had a lot of test and founf out I have a virual syndrome. I dont get the common cold but once in a while I do get bronchitis.
Avatar m tn It may be something else, but opiates depress the respiratory system and a week or two after the drugs are gone your respiratory system kicks into overdrive. I've got a sponsee just over 2 weeks clean and he's goin thru the same thing. I'd get it checked just in case, the immune system is all spun off after detox. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression.
Avatar m tn Marijuana can cause panic attacks in some people. Mainly in people who have been smoking for a long time, however, I suffered panic attacks after only 4 months of smoking. Marijuana stimulates the pleasure cells in your brain. If you wan't a scientific answer do a web search. Personally, marijuana affects on me were : increased taste, increased hunger, increased sense of hearing, increased sexual pleasure, increased interest in simple or mundane activities, increased paranoia, and sedation.
1606593 tn?1297913620 my advice is along the same lines as Teko but I will add a little something to the discussion being the mother of 2. I smoked through both pregnancies, trying to limit myself to 1 an hour but of course it didn't work and toward the 3rd trimester, I had given up. My son is 25 now and chest deformity, "Pectus Excavatum" that he blames on my smoking. My daughter is 22 and has asthma which she blames on me.
Avatar f tn my son now 10 months had bronchilitis the 1st 5 months of his life and spent it in the childrens department at the hospital. i didnt understand why everytime i took him home he took another breathing attack and was rushed back. the paeditrician told me it was because i was still smoking at home and nursing or feeding him after having a fag and all those smoke particles where attacking his respiratory system.
Avatar m tn t know for certain but I do know that it effects the respiratory system so perhaps the stuffiness is a side effect?
Avatar n tn COPD is Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which a chronic disease and causes symptoms of cough, breathlessness and wheezing. The commonest cause for COPD is smoking. The lungs age with smoking as in comparison to the person’s age. If you stop smoking at this point, the lungs are not damaged any further, though the damage that has already been done cannot be reversed. So, giving up smoking would be first step towards controlling COPD.
Avatar n tn i feel the best when i wake up in the morning and then it kinda starts through out the day. i also have alot of random thoughts and alot of things remind me of people usual they just pop into my head. im trying to figure out whats going on and if it will just go away?

Avatar n tn While it may be nothing very serious, dyspnea or shortness of breath can be an allergic reaction affecting the respiratory system and can become fatal. This shortness of breath can also be due to hypoglycemia cause by Levaquin. Please call up your doctor urgently and do not take the next dose until you have spoken to the doctor and have been examined by him. Take care!
Avatar n tn As, COPD is Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which a chronic disease and causes symptoms of cough, breathlessness and wheezing. The commonest cause for COPD is smoking and not infection. But infection can coexist with COPD. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn As long as she does not have lung related problems such as asthma and she quits now, all the adverse effects of smoking should dissipate within a few years. If she does not quit she will eventually notice increased aging of her skin relative to her non-smoking friends, increased chance of getting lung, oral and other cancers later in life and multiple respiratory problems. Even if nothing "runs in her family", it does not mean it will not affect her.
1222635 tn?1366396286 It took about 2-3 weeks for me but its different for different people. I was really moody for the 1st week so kept myself out of the way. But the second week I couldn't let anyone smoke close to me Cz the smell made me feel sick. Give It a few weeks and you will be fine. You will prob crave a far now and again but you will prob feel sick if you have one. Good luck.
Avatar m tn That all helps, as you suggested, and I would say that my reflux is about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the worst. I had the h. pylori blood test in April of 2012 and it came back negative. Can I be confident in just one blood test for h. pylori or should I be retested? I also had a food allergy test done last year and the results only showed a problem with cashews and pistachhios. I have had a diagnosis of non-specific colitus a few years ago.
Avatar n tn You will need a detailed functional evaluation of your lung function and respiratory and cardiovascular function since chronic smoking can lead to various ill effects. You could be suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease like bronchitis or emphysema, heart attacks, strokes, cancer oral cavity and cancer lung. Consult a physician for the needful assessment so that any serious illness is screened and caught early for prompt management.
1215483 tn?1306255855 o) Primary Progressive accounts for most of the rest, and Progressive Relapsing is the only rare form. In PR, the disease shows continued progression, with relapses on top of that. Is this what your diagnosis is? Or are you asking to hear from people who have autonomic nervous system involvement? That could include lungs, heart, kidneys, etc., all organs over which we have no control.
