Avatar f tn As an ex ketamine addict I know the seriously damaging effect ketamine can have on the body and am shocked to hear that a doctor is willingly prescribed it to a patient as a means of helping them. Although I can offer no advice on how it affects seizures or colonscopy, I am very curious to know why ketamine was actually given to a patient and what the doctor wished to achieve through such a dangerous and damaging drug?
Avatar f tn I was working long shifts at work and was not troubled by many of the side effects of high dose narcotics. I am going back into hospital in 4 weeks for another ketamine boot camp!! Although I don't look forward to it I do look forward to the relief it offers. For anyone reading this who feels their life and their personality is being overwhelmed by having CPS, consider Ketamine. Find yourself a ketamine specialist , make an appointment and go in for a chat. You have nothing to loose.
739070 tn?1338603402 I 'm scheduled for my first ketamine infusion tomorrow and now at the last minute , I am getting scared. My son told me of stories of kids using "special K' , street quality ketamine and their bad reactions. He didn't mean to add to my anxiety but he did as did a lot of what I read on the net. When this treatment was last discussed by the pain doc , I had just finished a S-P block and was not totally with it.
739070 tn?1338603402 The Buzz about Ketamine Infusions Ketamine is a treatment option used for certain types of pain. Its effects have been described as a “dissociative” feeling. It is administered intravenously and has been reported to be safe and effective for CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) also known as RSD (reflex sympathetic dystrophy. Ketamine is also being used to help manage the pain of many MS patients.
1275919 tn?1279836004 ve ever heard of it as well. The doc told me that basically I would lay down with an IV of Ketamine. They would let the Ketamine slowly drip down the IV for 2 hrs. Ketamine is an anesthetic that is used sometimes in surgery and it is also used for Vet surgeries. The theory is that Ketamine binds to the receptors in the brain that recieve pain signals. So theoretically even after the anesthetic sleepy effects of the Ketamine wear off, it will stay bound to those pain receptors for awhile.
767538 tn?1276575320 Hello I actually just completed a ten day ketamine infusion for chronic pain, going into the infusions I was terrified because of everything I had heard of ketamine. It actually worked the 1st day. During the infusions they put me on namenda which seemed to counteract the benefits of the ketamine and it made me sick. Its now 5 days after my infusions and Im starting to some pain so I am again trying the Namenda.
Avatar f tn If the medication is found to be the cause it may need to be substituted by other medications that have the desirable effects but lack the side effects, or counteract the side effect with other medications. It would be best to discuss the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating doctor. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
1154462 tn?1327434379 Yes ketamine is experimental and it does have a fair amount of side effects but in clinical trials it appears to be helpful for depression. There is a fair amount of information about it online but I don't think we can print links to clinical trials here but there is some information on why they believe it works and how if you do a google search for it.

Avatar f tn Hi, I've just stumbled across this forum and think I can offer some answers to your questions :) I have a 6mm Chiari Type 1 Malformation and also suffer from RSD / CRPS as a result of cancer and a serious MVA. So far I haven't had the decompression surgery although I'm a candidate as I'm a bit nervous about it as the Drs here in Australia haven't been able to offer me great percentage chances of success.
Avatar m tn It’s just exasperating to try to tell a doctor about what I know about the effects of interferon. I know I sound like an old woman who thinks she has all these disorders and she’s just experiencing old age. I find that antidepressants like Cymbalta help with aches & pains. Recently my doctor recommended a “medical food” called Luma which (to my surprise) seems to be helping me in a big way with my mood and energy.
Avatar m tn Generally when this happens, it is a good idea to give those membranes “a rest” by resorting to another method of drug administration. On the other hand, the Ketamine might not be the cause of bleeding. Something else might be and, for that reason you should arrange to have your nose examined, to rule-out other causes, such as infection, that would require other therapy.
1275919 tn?1279836004 My nurse practitioner has mentioned that they've found good benefits with the use of ketamine. But I'm not sure of all the ways they use it. I have a compounding cream/gel that the pain clinic had specifically made up for me. It contains about 7 or more different ingredients/medications, one of which is ketamine. Before that, they had me using Voltaren gel, which I did get a little relief from. I find this new compounding cream to be more effective than the Voltaren.
Avatar f tn Im 21 year old and i've been having these stomach aches for a few days after using heavy amouts of drugs. I'm starting to worry since this usually didnt happen and i know it was stupid of me to start doing drugs but im getting worried that it might be something serious. Avatar f tn Since the early 1960’s more and more research has been devoted to the NMDA receptors in cell membranes and their involvement in pain as a way of blocking these harmful effects of calcium. Ketamine (a veterinary anesthetic, primarily), dextromethorphan, amantadine, and now Namenda are the best-known medications which have been shown to have such benefits for chronic pain patients. They are the best-known medications which are clinically available to work in such a unique fashion.
585414 tn?1288941302 But when the depression remains, it is notoriously difficult to treat, so a fast-acting medicine with lasting effects would have obvious advantages. Ketamine probably acts by limiting the action of one type of brain receptor that moves nerve signals between neurons.
Avatar n tn ve smoked since the age of 16 and been diabetic since 27 as some one mentioned earlier the only bad of smoking and being diabetic IS THE MUNCHIES and not having the suitable foods to go with this condition i find that nuts and mountain dew {diet of course} work really well for me or veggie mix and an lite dip.
Avatar m tn ME and my girlfriend made some new friends (A couple like us) who were also very into drugs but more experienced users of LSD, KETAMINE, and practically most drugs you can think of. So we would have them over once a week and we would all get ****** up. My newly found friends had a party one night where in anticipation we had all talked about taking LSD (my first time). I was excited to try it as I had done mushrooms before and had an awesome couple of trips.
612876 tn?1355514495 Weaning should be slow -- no more than 10% per month -- to avoid severe negative side effects of withdrawal. Medical treatment of withdrawal symptoms should be provided. These may include treatment for runny nose, diarrhea, etc. Hyperalgesia is a common symptom of opioid withdrawal. While symptom fades with time, in the early months of withdrawal it can be quite debilitating depending on your underlying pain condition.

Avatar m tn Marijuana can cause panic attacks in some people. Mainly in people who have been smoking for a long time, however, I suffered panic attacks after only 4 months of smoking. Marijuana stimulates the pleasure cells in your brain. If you wan't a scientific answer do a web search. Personally, marijuana affects on me were : increased taste, increased hunger, increased sense of hearing, increased sexual pleasure, increased interest in simple or mundane activities, increased paranoia, and sedation.
Avatar f tn The reason I am asking is when I was last at Stanford they were beginning to use dosages of approx. 20 mgs of liquid Ketamine as an adjunct or possible replacement of traditional narcotics. I am not even clear as to what class of drug Ketamine falls into? I am really curious, does anyone else have any history with it?
739070 tn?1338603402 We set up my ketamine to be once a month for the next 6 months. It can be altered of needed during that time. For those of you who were asking about the Sphenopalitine block, Dr. Shaw knew of the Cleveland Clinic Pain Center but did not know anyone specifically at the center.
