Avatar m tn You are not going to do permanent damage to your brain from a couple nights of drinking and smoking pot. I don't mean to encourage doing things that have some risk of creating dependency, but the actions of cannabis are temporary-- as are most of the effects of alcohol-- provided you aren't drinking to the point of alcohol toxicity (for example, drinking so much that you pass out, repeatedly).
Avatar m tn Marijuana can cause panic attacks in some people. Mainly in people who have been smoking for a long time, however, I suffered panic attacks after only 4 months of smoking. Marijuana stimulates the pleasure cells in your brain. If you wan't a scientific answer do a web search. Personally, marijuana affects on me were : increased taste, increased hunger, increased sense of hearing, increased sexual pleasure, increased interest in simple or mundane activities, increased paranoia, and sedation.
Avatar m tn But, it blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain, so you smoke the first week while taking it and then you actually begin to notice that you are smoking our of habit and not out of craving. Avatar f tn Your brain and body do feel the effects of the drug nicotine in the tabacco. Your baby will feel it to, and it may or may not effect brain developement. My mom had 2 sisters. Of the 3 mommys, one smoked cigarettes and drank a little during pregnancy. The 2 mom's who did not smoke or drink had multiple healthy live births where all kids went to college...school teachers, attorneys, business peeps. The aunt who smoked and drank had low birth weight babies.

The prepulse inhibition (PPI) is a phenomenon in which a weak prepulse attenuates the response to a subsequent startling stimulus.
Avatar f tn It's harmful to ingest most anything while you're pregnant...from different prescription meds, certainly illicit drugs are dangerous. There's no way to know the full extent of the effect on the baby...sometimes years later, a child will present with learning disabilities that can most likely be attributed to usage during pregnancy. You hear sometimes people have babies after they've used a drug during their pregnancy that appear to be fine.
Avatar f tn It took a lot of years for me to get worn down and see the effects of the untreated sleep apnea in my daily life. I compensated well, being young and otherwise pretty healthy. But it did catch up with me - and in a big way. Even though I have other sleep issues (limb movements) and my poor sleep patterns persisted even after CPAP, just having my brain get the air it needs and my body not to be stressed with repeatedly suffocating all night, I began to improve.

Avatar m tn 163] The latest report in 2005 by Tashkin et all does indeed confirm the lack of an association of smoking marijuana and lung cancer. Avatar m tn At first I had very little side effects - in fact, I felt fantastic and ceased smoking within the first week. Three weeks into the treatment, I became emotionally very unstable, crying for no reason, feelings of worthlessness - almost an induced depression with insomnia, very vivid dreams, severe join pains etc. I coped well with those until I went out one night, had a few drinks and a total blackout followed.
Avatar m tn I would suggest not smoking cannibus (weed). If it isn't helping you, why smoke it? Please don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer in the medicinal value of weed, but if you aren't able to tolerate the effects, then stay away from it, please. You also may have smoked weed that was sprayed with a pesticide. You are so young...unless you have chronic pain or cancer, don't smoke weed. Its obviously not helping you. And...yes...I am a mother of 2 young adults in their 20's.
Avatar m tn thanks for the reply, and i am used to the buzz, before i ever touched tramadol the effects of alcohol were very present.
Avatar f tn On a purely anecdotal level, I know quite a few people who smoked pot while pregnant. In the case of one of my best friends, her kids had relatively low birth weights in the 5-6 pound range but she's also extremely tiny to begin with. I haven't observed any negative effects in the children, but then none of them are very old yet either. I agree that smoking anything, regardless of chemical content, is going to take oxygen away from your developing child though.
Avatar f tn In September of 2006 I had a stressful event happen and was on the brink of picking up a cigarette. I decided to start the gum chewing instead of smoking. I have been on it ever since. I guess I am coming to the realization that this nicotine gum can be very bad for your health if chewed past the recommended timeframe. I have been having stomach problems for the last 6-9 months that were fueled by a stressful job that I am no longer in.
1037594 tn?1258562179 Have any of you read the information regarding our life clock being sped up by the Hippocampus of the brain and how the Hippocampus becomes an assasign of sorts causing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and others that I cannot recall at this time. Reading several articles that basically stated the same thing made me think about those poor children that age prematurely and if there was some sort of connection between the two on basic level.
Avatar f tn My boyfriend quit "cold turkey" about a month ago. Already he sleeps better and coughs so much less. And although he still struggles daily with the temptation, he's doing a great job, and I tell him so. He has since noticed that his hands are "puffy" (his fingers don't fit his bowling ball properly anymore) and that he is nasally "congested" and thinks it may be allergies.

Avatar m tn I research this a little and found that nicotine will actually cause the SFN to get worse and stop any of here meds that the doctors gave here to work correctly. I need help. I have strong feelings against her smoking again but she will not listen to me about what it will do and the doctors we are with will not call her back for appoints, questions, or help her with her depression or anxioty. Please help.
Avatar f tn s also not a great idea to mix drugs for the brain with other drugs for the brain -- pot affects the brain and so does the meds you're taking, so it could be the combo. Alcohol is usually more the culprit here, but again, could be. Also could be the meds you're on -- don't know if this started when you started the meds or not but antidepressants in particular can be very hard on the digestive system. So if you're not feeling anxious, it could be a side effect of the meds.
Avatar n tn What could be the exact side effects of the two combined? Thanks for all your help!
