Avatar n tn I've had 2 c sections. Hated them both. With my eldest, it was hard to bond. I was not allowed to hold her until I came out of recovery. I was given high powered pain meds that knocked me out, and later knocked her out. Everyone got to hold my baby and feed her before I did. My birthing plan said not to feed her in case of c section, just sugar water, that was ignored. I wasn't awake to protest so my desires were totally disregarded.
Avatar f tn Imaging modalities such as CTscan or MRI will help rule out pathology or secondary headaches. Morphine is usually excreted into human milk in trace amounts and adverse effects in the nursing infant are unlikely. Morphine is considered compatible with breast-feeding by the American Academy of Pediatrics. (ref: http://www.drugs.com/pregnancy/morphine.html#ixzz0vbMEgeUz). Aside from medications, another option is complementary and alternative medicine including biofeedback techniques.
653169 tn?1303446369 Has anyone else had the side effect of swelling with the use of ms contin/ morphine ER?? I don't mean like swelling in airway or face which could mean an allergy. I have noticed that when I take it I get swelling in my ankles. I know that urinary retention is a side effect for the morphine ER, but didn't notice dependent swelling noted. I went off of the drug for a while and had very little swelling, but as soon as I restart it notice swelling to start in my ankles.
Avatar f tn My question is does the morphine make you really nauseated and throw up. The last few days the side effects have slowed down, but I would still like to hear some suggestions from people in the forum.
237039 tn?1264258057 The oxygenated effect may be due to the dilation of blood vessels and better circulation of blood/oxygen. also the beneficial effect of morphine in patients with pulmonary edema as in CHF is, also, unequivocal. The danger or risk associated with a heart attack may be the result of decreased blood pressure and a slow down in the heart rate and that could add negative factors to an already stressed heart under some circumstances.
Avatar f tn If there is 50mg of morphine in the body, 25mg (50%) will be lost in 3 hours; if there is only 2mg of morphine in the body, only 1mg (50%) will be lost in 3 hours. Note that in both cases, morphine levels drop by 50% during an interval of one half-life. (3 hours) Because I am not a pharmacist, when the Singulair bottle says the half-life is 2.7-5.5 hours, I don't have the knowledge to figure out why there is such a discrepency in the half-life. But the way I see it is that between every 2.
1412606 tn?1282882129 I have done a lot of research into the subject of Pain Management and Pregnancy as I am dealing with this myself and there is very little info available on the subject as it is considered somewhat unethical to do human studies. From what I have found there are a number of medications that are safe in pregnancy and not known to cause side effects. That being said, there is so little research that many doctors are not informed on what is safe.

Avatar m tn The long term effects of Morphine sulfate on the overall health of the human body. Including heart health, gastro-intestinally, and other organs. I know someone who has been taking it for at least at least 10+years. I am getting worried about this person. A few years ago he had a very bad stomach problem, and they could never figure it out. I pretty much thought it had something to do with the morphine. Any advice? He needs it for his back.
Avatar m tn i have several friends and family members that morphine adversely effects them. my good friend went out of her mind (acting crazy) when they gave it to her. her father is the very same way. my son (16) fell 30 ft. and had a tbi. he also had other injuries. they gave him morphine and i could tell it agitated him. he had a very serious brain injury that resulted in learning every facet of life all over again, but the morphine was a bad combination with the brain injury.
Avatar n tn i want to know is there any way instead of A HOSPITAL to detox from150mg morphine 2x a day over the next week can i detox myself at home using over the counter stuff and DARVON65 to help with the heebeegeebees?
Avatar f tn Has anyone had issues with withdrawal symptoms coming on suddenly? I know the Opana ER doesn't last 12 hours (even my doc warned me this was the case) but this latest batch of opana seems to poop out & give me old sweats about 4 hours after taking it. I've been on Opana ER, 20 mg 2x/day for a couple of months. It's my 2nd experience with long-acting opioids (1st was Oxycontin MS, quit after 10 days due to gluten issues).
Avatar f tn m 40 weeks and 3 days, my cervix is not opened and the doctors think because I have not been getting sleep cause of contraction pain...I want to know if getting morphine is okay for baby?? Any did effects? And will my labor start after i wake up??
Avatar n tn s normal for something like this to happen because Morphine and Phenergan make the muscle twitch slightly as side-effects. Check with a heart and immune system doctor for a layout and idea tracking of the pain if you are too concerned. It works for 90%-100% of the time.
Avatar m tn Well, I would see if you are reacting to the naloxone or the buprenorphine, maybe the dye. If for pain management, I would try Subutex, then. generic Subutex... pure mu receptor agonists narcotics simply are not the answer for pain management in people < 60 yrs of age or 70, simply due to the phenomenon of tolerance. Subutex and Suboxone are far behind in FDA approval for moderate pain....plus.
Avatar m tn About 1 month ago my pain management doctor increased my dosage of morphine sulfate from 10 gm to 30 mg (1 every 12 hours). Shortly after I began taking the 30mg morphine sulfate, I started to develop a slight rash. Over the last week, the rash has become much worse and a real problem. I've been taking over the counter benadryl tabs to get some relief from the rash which is helping a little to relief the itching and rash.
Avatar m tn Welcome and Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry to hear about your previous reaction to Morphine. Are you experiencing any reaction or similar side effects with the long acting Morphine (Kadian)? As Dmoonchild said Kadian IS Morphine. There are several brand names for MS (Morphine Sulfate)..... but in the end they are all basically the same or similar chemical structure.
4760166 tn?1398357313 Most of us have probably been treated like junkies in ER rooms ... and it is insulting and my GP mentioned genetic testing for how I metabolize drugs. Morphine, for instance, doesn't work for me. and a few other things ... plus I seem to build up tolerances quickly and have always experienced poor pain control after procedures. I would like to blame the hospital I'm chained to because of my surgeons, but maybe it is me. Time will tell!
Avatar f tn Dont get me wrong i love the pain pump i just dont like the side effects from this one medication. I havent even tried any of the others that he could use in it that wouldnt have the side effects i am having now. This was my last resort to when the pain became so bad that i could no longer walk. With it i,m walking and doing more.
1144050 tn?1261292610 I have been on it for about 2 yrs now for arthritis in my back and knees. I take 15mg 4 times a day. I wanted to know if at this level, is this going to cause any brith defects or harm to my fetus??? If so, can you please give me some insight as to how badly the effects are??? Avatar f tn When I went in to the hospital the other night with my gall bladder they gave me a shot of morphine when I got there and 1 when I left they said that Morphine is one of the pain relievers that is ok during pregnancy...
