Effects of methadone on pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Effects of methadone on pregnancy

methadose

Avatar n tn You need to get your OB/GYN involved in this and if s/he is not familiar with this process, find one who is. You should not be on methadone during pregnancy. The standard of care for pregnant addicted women is Suboxone or Subutex taper, even though maintenance Suboxone or Subutex is still considered safer than methadone because of much less risk of the respiratory suppression. Please get a second opinion before you get yourself and your baby into a whole lot of trouble.

662972 tn?1270166301 what are long term effects of methadone good/bad i am only 28 and been on it for 8 mos all info is welcomed thanks
Avatar f tn My son is now 5 years old and fine , I was on methadone throughout my pregnancy safely monitored by doctors. They may need to increase your dosage based on your blood volume increasing. So in closing, call your clinic doctor , if you need the treatment continue it, it is better then taking the risk of using again.
Avatar f tn t stop I am 15 weeks pregnant and I was wondering if you know anyone who has taking this during the entire pregnancy and if so was it as bad for the baby as methadone withdraw or morphine withdraw is and i ask cause my dr wants me to go off the dilidid and onto methadone but I only take between 4-8 mg of dilidid a day and my bf is on methadone and I See what it does to him and I feel taking (methadone) that would a put more synthetic opiates into my body as I feel 4 -8mg a day is not worth go
1412606 tn?1282882129 He said the methadone is best if a patient needs to stay on pain meds while pregnant because there is a lot of research that has evaluated its effects on fetal development and long term effects (often because of mothers who are on methadone maintenance therapy for addiction during pregnancy). He said the morphine is ok too..but that there isn't as much research out there on it. I came off all the morphine and cut my methadone down by a 1/2.
662972 tn?1270166301 weight gain, thristy, stomach acid ( have take anti acid daily), monthly cycle is off Hope hear from you any info always helps
Avatar f tn It could be a side effect of the methadone or even an allergic type reaction to it. I remember when I took Macrobid (antibiotic) for a urinary infection, I had a high fever (102.3) every time I would take it, so I called my doctor's office and they told me to stop it immediately because I was having an allergic reaction to it. As it turned out, my father had had this same type of reaction to it a couple years before.
Avatar f tn I was wondering the effects of suboxone on pregnancy and being 47 years old. Does anyone have any answers?
Avatar m tn I know it was a lot and he was on it for at least 1-2 years. His family tried to talk him out of the methadone but he visited the clinic and of course they shared many "success stories" so he is convinced that it is a good decision...I hope it is. I believe the 30mg is the high point because he is on a program to taper his doses. Of course I am not 100% sure on this but I will ask him. As I said, I'm really worried about the extremely anxious behavior that I am seeing.
Avatar n tn I have a few articles about pregnancy on methadone and on Subutex at my blog, Suboxone Talk Zone-- just go there and search for the posts about pregnancy and you should find them. I agree with the prior comment-- we don't know of serious problems from opiates in neonates. The worst part will likely be the judgmental attitudes you will be given by the hospital staff. As for the withdrawal, there are a couple things to remember.
Avatar f tn are these the side effects of someone on methadone????cause i dont understand how i can be so talkative in the past and have such a strong personilty.. then turn into a zombie with no emotions, is this what happens after taking the pill for a while.. as i said im a 26 beautiful women.( i dont feel that way but i have men talking to me constantly,) get compliments daily.
Avatar f tn Women are actually encouraged to stay the course while on methadone and pregnant now. Of course, you have to get to the lowest dose possible, then stick with that dose. You should be comfortable but not high. In the old days, the medical community would have women withdraw until they realized there was WAY less stress on the mother AND baby just staying on a reasonably low dosage, the same dose every day.
5527883 tn?1392586811 It does have its uses in heroin or massive pill abuse but if your brother had got down to half a vicodin a day he is really playing with fire using methadone. Try to convince him to stop or come on here and read the methadone horror stories. I have come off pills, heroin, and methadone and the methadone was by far the most drawn out withdrawal of all of them!
Avatar f tn I'm also on methadone this is my third pregnancy. But first time on it I'm scared of what's gonna happen to my baby what was the withdraws like for your lil one an how long did it last.
Avatar f tn I just would like to hear others experiences or if you know anything about the effects of methadone on pregnancy. Also my dose right now isn't holding me all day. I go to sleep feeling sick and wake up feeling horrible. Is that bad for my baby?? I've never has this happen before and never in my wildest imagination would I have thought this to happen. It's the most screwed up situation I have ever been in knowing what I'm doing to my baby. I need advice. I need help.
1144050 tn?1261292610 I just watched a show the other night about a woman who took methadone the whole time she was pregnant. when the baby was born of course she was addicted. she stayed an additional 5 weeks in NCIU going through withdraws. she was on morphine to help wean her from the methadone./ please talk to your doctor about detoxing. good luck and please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Geesha, what about cyclobenzapine? And what does methadone have to do with tramadol? Methadone treats addiction problems. I'm on bupenerophine, which is kind of like methadone but supposed to be better.

20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
Avatar n tn m not aware of the others but I know for a fact methadone is NOT safe for pregnancy. I have a friend of a friend that was on methadone while pregnant because she was addicted to Vicodin and other drugs. They gave her methadone to ween her off. I can tell you while she was taking this, she was pregnant and her baby was born with A LOT of issues. He was born with a hole in the rough of his mouth, he is 3 and still cannot walk or talk.
Avatar f tn I do not want to hurt my baby anyway, please help! I have a friend who stayed throughout her pregnancy on methadone, her clinic told her if she were to withdraw she would lose her baby. Is this true, i took my dose down already to 20 mil a day.
Avatar n tn It seems I have read more about withdrawels and miscarriage than adverse effects of the suboxone. I took vicodin (heavily) my whole pregnancy with my second son (hence the suboxone now) and he turned out perfectly perfect. Mostly worried about any damage so far. I will quit today if I know there is going to be problems. looking forward to your response!
