Common Questions and Answers about Eczema vs allergy

eczema

Avatar n tn Hi gaby! I too just started reading about this. I've been wearing VS IPEX, and BBV for a few years now. Last September '07 I started breaking out in hives ALL over my body and have not been able to figure out what is causing it either. I'm glad to see your post b/c I was about to shrug this off as not what is causing it since all the other women say its only on their breats and back. I guess we're gonna have to try not wearing them and see what happens?
976589 tn?1255609465 I have a dry patch of skin on my left arm. I think I have a food allergy, but not sure. I've been unable to pinpoint exactly which foods cause a more severe rash. Could this be eczema?

Avatar m tn If your past history is positive for eczema, the most likely cause for the rash could be eczema again. People who suffer from this disorder should avoid contact with triggering factors like soaps, cosmetics, jewelry, clothing, and detergents. Sometimes sweat, changes in temperature and psychological stress are known to trigger these episodes. So, the best way to prevent attacks is to identify those substances which you are allergic to and avoid them.

Avatar m tn I've had allergy related eczema my entire life, and after 10 years of allergy shots my eczema is ridiculously better than it was. Now the only thing that my eczema really bothers me with is the extreme itchiness I get when I get hot or warm. I have a fan pointing at me nearly at all times at home otherwise I get uncomfortable. I get extremely irritable when hot and am prone to heat induced rage. How do I keep cool or how to keep myself from feeling that itch.
Avatar f tn To find out whether your child is having contact dermatitis to milk(eczema)or he is having milk allergy(rashes are present in the mild form of milk allergy),skin tests and food challenge tests have to be done by an allergist.Pls consult him for that. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn s have told me that it might be eczema I had many ointments and creams prescribed but none have seemed to resolve the problem. my knuckles are not itchy and red all the time, it occurs more so around winter but i am sure its not due to cold weather, i have considered that it might be stress ( as Stress causes Eczema) but then again i'm not stressed, the knuckles are dry, cracking and are very itchy, if anyone has any ideas PLEASE post !!!
Avatar m tn My wife suffers from eczema and is particularly affecting her palms of hands to the point that her skin is cracking. It is extremely itchy and she has sought medical attention with a dermatologist but the medication prescribed is ineffective. Anyone have this type of condition? Any alternatives?
Avatar f tn I am getting allergy shots from my allergy doctor. I’m thinking it’s eczema. Hot water and heat makes it worse.
Avatar f tn In eczema patients respond to food triggers. Eczema can make allergy testing difficult. In people with eczema and food allergies, strictly avoiding food allergens may help reduce or, occasionally, eliminate symptoms. The most common food triggers for eczema are eggs, milk, peanuts, soy, and wheat. Among these, eggs are probably associated the most strongly with eczema.
Avatar n tn I would recommend that he see an allergist that specializes in eczema. Eczema frequently has an allergic cause. Treat the underlying allergy and the eczema clears up. I know some people who have had success with Allergra and Zyrtec. My daughter only has eczema in the winter when she is not out side as much. This may also be related to a low vitamin D level. Has anyone checked his vitamin D level?
Avatar f tn When I was 7 years old it started as an allergy then I got older it worsen and turns into wounds.I tried different skin products and medications for my eczema. I dont know if this is eczema tho, everytime in turns red then it turns into wounds. We cant afford surgeries here. Is there a clinic that offers free surgery?
Avatar m tn Very often, a person with a food allergy has already been exposed to it previously. In other words, they have been sensitized to the food. The more the particular food is ingested the worse the allergy can become. If the rash is bothersome or should worsen you can always go to urgent care or the ER. Also, there are OTC antihistamines that you can look into for the itch.
Avatar f tn We eventually found out that it was a food allergy causing the eczema. Aveeno lotions and washes work great.
9041091 tn?1410417329 To help with eczema get some Cortizone Eczema Lotion. Its betweeen $8-$10 a bottle.I ewas instructed not to put ANYTHINGthat has a scent to it on my sons skin becabecause it makes it worse and sunscreen has a scent and I've never heard of that helping either.
1656931 tn?1302617825 If this is eczema, it is actually common from what I read for people with eczema to have gluten intolerance. I do have eczema, but I've gotten so much better by avoiding gluten like the plague. And, if it is eczema, allergies do aggravate eczema.
Avatar m tn Had gluten intolerance diagnosed about six weeks ago, and before that had candida for almost eight years and presumably still have. About eight weeks ago eczema started to spread, first on my chest, then in the following weeks to my arms, neck and legs and lastly to my back. It has just been getting worse and worse, right up to now. On hearing of the gluten intolerance I immediately ceased (6 wks ago) eating all foodstuffs with gluten, wheat, rye, barley, oats, etc., etc.
336902 tn?1242006090 He is now having very bad eczema on his face and his back which was previously triggered by milk allergy and soy allergy. Question: Has anyone has the same case like mine where baby was put on Alimentum due to both milk and soy's allergy? If yes, then how well is the baby doing on the ALimentum? Does the eczema clears up? If so, when? Additional details: The milk and soy allergy is confirmed when he developed colicky behaviour, bloody stools, diarrhea and eczema when he was put on them.
Avatar m tn Also, I've read that if you have eczema and you find the allergen with a test, you should avoid the allergen. Avoing, obviously, will prevent rashes?
Avatar m tn They usually say it is an allergy but it only happens once a year so it is really hard to determine what it could be. I really dont think it is an allergy though I am more prone to believe that it is eczema and the Christmas time is probably due to the dry winter skin. I have found that Palmers Cocoa butter does seem to help with the discomfort. I am going to google this specific type of eczema to see what I can find.
