Eczema treatment for eyelids

Common Questions and Answers about Eczema treatment for eyelids

eczema

Avatar n tn Hi, For 2 years I have had dry skin on my eyelids. The eyes get dry, sting a little an then get flaky skin or sometimes the skin will crack. Along with this my ears ooze a yellow substance from inside the ridge at the top of my ears, it then gets very dry around the ear. After the first year I started to get lesions/dry skin on my elbows and belly button.
Avatar n tn I have had this problem for eight months, others for over a year. I have tried everything, changed soap laundry detergent, foods and prescriptions from four different, so called doctors. They tell me it's an auto immune disorder with no cure. But they also claimed that the steroids would clear it up. They make it worse for me. I also thought it was jock itch. jock itch spray actually worked the best.
Avatar f tn I have had puffy, swollen eyelids for months-ever since the day after my gallbladder surgery months ago. I have tried to go weeks without makeup (it only got worse), I've cut out all sorts of foods in case it was an allergy, I'm taking allergy medication (Reactin, Allegra) and started also trying Benedryl. I've changed my detergent for laundry, soaps, hair products-everything.
Avatar n tn I have very mild eyelid eczema (and on my body) that can be virtually cured of any symptoms for months at a time by a light dose of triamcinolone creme used for 2-3 days. For the eyelids, I use a cotton swab to carefully get a little on the problem area. At worst I find the vapor might irritate the eyes if it's too close so I keep them closed for a minute while the medicine drys but other than that there is zero discomfort on the eyes.
Avatar f tn My GP told me the most likely cause is lactose, so I am now avoiding eating dairy products (for almost 2 weeks now). I have eczema on my eyelids which I tend to scratch when I sleep, I have been putting Sigmacort cream on it but it doesn't help. Is lactose causing the eczema on my eyelids? Is there a short-term fix to the eczema on my eyelids?

Avatar n tn I was wondering if it is possible to have eczema without the affected area getting red? I have had patches of dry flaky skin on my eyelids (upper and lower) for about a month now and I've been trying moisturizers and allergy medication with little help. First, could this truely be eczema and second how should it be treated when it occurs around the eyes.
Avatar m tn I am a 29 y/o male, have a history of red, itchy, flaky eyelids. Recently the redness and flakiness have progressed to cover my cheeks, eyebrows, middle of forehead. The itchiness is now subsided and I am left with very noticeable hypopigmentation in these affected areas. There is a sharp line on both cheeks demarcating the normal area from the affected area. I wash with cetaphil face wash and afterwards the areas are extremely dry and flaky.
Avatar f tn Because it seem that when I scratch my eyelids or rub them it irritates my contact lenses causes them to move and distort my vision. I tried taking contact out for a week and eczema got better. Check your contact lenses. The material that it's made of.
Avatar n tn For the past couple months I've noticed that my eyelids have been unusually dry and itchy - Now they are constantly peeling (both the upper and lower lid) and still very itchy and super red (it looks like I've been slugged in the eyes). I read online that I should do a warm compress and then scrub the skin with baby wash and then use aveeno, but that hasn't been working at all - I'm so embarrassed by it, I don't like going out..
Avatar f tn Dear babygirl08005, I would recommend that you seek the care of an eyeMD to determine the best treatment for your eyes. Wrinkle creams will not help the eczema, which may also be occurring around the skin of your eyelids. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
784419 tn?1236261756 Eczema can be traced back to what you eat most of the time. This is especially true for kids. For adults you have to look at the detergents you are using, along with moisturizer. The most important thing is not scratching and to keep applying moisturizer. It can be hard to find one that agrees with your skin. Just after shower apply a liberal coat of a natural moisturizer like coconut oil.
Avatar m tn Sometimes people have allergies to other things that come in contact with other parts of the body but show up on the sensitive skin areas, like the eyelids. For example, my wife is allergic to the gloves they use at our hospital. The reaction, however showed up on her eyelids instead of her hands. As soon as she stopped using thos particular gloves, the irritation went away. Process of elimination works best when it comes to skin allergies. It could aslo by Psoriasis or Eczema.
Avatar f tn I do not infer anything more than a mild 'Asteatotic eczema' (relating to old age) .Application of coconut oil should be fine(not in to the eye but outer skin). Do consult your doc.
Avatar m tn My 1.5 year old has mild eczema, with some small patches around the eyes and eyelids. My doctor prescribed Locoid ointment (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%). I have since learned that there are serious side effects associated with topical steroid use around the eyes and eyelids, including cataracts and glaucoma. Without understanding the risks, I applied the Locoid to my child's eye area and eyelids daily for one week. I stopped immediately upon learning of the danger.
Avatar m tn I then used an anti-fungal cream afterwards (not sure if it has skin thinning affects) called Daktarin and some Chloramphenicol eye ointment for two weeks. I no longer put anything on my eyelids except a totally organic thick eczema and dry skin moisturiser, as my eyelid feels very tight. How long do you reckon I will start to see results of my skin thickening?
Avatar f tn Eczema on both lids of both eyes would be unusual. The most common cause would be hypersensitivity reaction of eyelids due to exotoxin production of staphlococcus aureous colonizing your eyelids due to blepharitis. Again that is just the most common cause.
Avatar m tn I have been suffering from eczema on my eyelids for years and, recently, I have discovered that the application of a small amount of Gold Bond Body Lotion (http://****.com/largeimage/GoldBondMedicatedExtraStrengthBodyLotion14OunceBottleKqL.jpg) heals the problem if I use it daily. I do not get it in my eyes, but it does cause the tingling sensation associated with Menthol on my eyelids (sometimes my eyes water, but it does not get into my eye). The lotion contains 0.
Avatar m tn Hello, In most cases of eczema no one treatment will be effective. Medical research shows that the most effective treatment plan for eczema involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes(prevention of triggers and application of lots of moisturizers) to control flare-ups. Along with the medicines( steroids and antihistaminics) you need to apply plenty of emollients or mositurisers.
Avatar f tn I posted this in the dermatology forum and didn't get any replies so I thought maybe this was a better forum to ask about this. Over the past few weeks I have developed itchy, red, burning, flaky, puffy eyelids. I thought that maybe it was my make-up (which I don't often use) so I haven't put any on in several days. However, the problem seems to be getting worse. Worst of all is my upper eyelids have become wrinkly and droopy (which I imagine is due to the puffiness?).
Avatar f tn So, if anyone else is having this side effect from treatment...try Aquaphor for around the eyes and facial areas. If that doesn't work, try plain old A&D ointment because I have had some luck with that too. As of now, I think I could start an "ointment/lotion/cream" store with all of the stuff I've purchased for my skin issues while on treatment, many of which were not helpful.
Avatar f tn He also noticed the itchy skin and said it seemed to be eczema but he couldn’t do much for it. He prescribed me Keflex and I have now finished the course, although I didn’t notice much effect. Likewise there has been no change to the lump under my armpit. Instead the pharmacist recommended Selsun Gold Shampoo, which I have used twice. Each time has given me about a day-and-a-half of relief and visibly reduced dandruff(?

I thought that maybe it was my make-up (which I don't often use) so I haven't put any on in several days. However, the problem seems to be getting worse. Worst of all is my upper eyelids have become wrinkly and droopy (which I imagine is due to the puffiness?). I tried putting a thin coat of benedryl cream on them and it helped a tiny bit with the itching.

Avatar f tn I have eczema all over my body and withing the past year i have swollen eyelids, with extra wrinkles. my eyes are also itchy. What can i do so that my eyes aren't disgusting and itchy?
Avatar m tn Just finished 24 week treatment. Did labs this week. All the sudden my eyelids are red and itch. Has anyone had this problem and what did they do about it?
Avatar f tn I have had this red area on my eyelids for 2yrs + now that flares up when I do not use the hydrocortisone cream prescribed for it. I was told it was eczema but it looks more like psoriasis to me, which I currently have on my scalp. I do have diabetes and hypothyroidism, both autoimmune.
